Before I even post this I want to say that yes, I know there are bigger problems in the world. I know that this is really nothing in the overall scheme of things. I know it will grow. I know I know I know.

That being said I have just gotten the worst haircut of my life. I am far from a dramatic person and have never gotten upset over any hair issues. I have even had someone melt- yes melt- my hair when they overprocessed it and I still rolled with it. This however has sent me over the edge. I go to get a haircut last night. I tried a new place that someone reccomended. Now please know I am a hair salon snob. I don't got to supercuts, lemon tree etc. I have a Beautician's license and used to work in an upscale shop. This is simply the type of places I like for many reasons.
Anyway, I went in and met the stylist. I knew I was going to cut about 3 inches or so off of my hair. It needed it. We discussed a style. I was very specific about what I did not want. We agreed and off we went. She started cutting and in my head I thought that it was going to be great and it was going to look so healthy. Then she kept cutting and cutting and cutting. Still- I figured that it would look cute when it was dry. Um.... NO! She blew it out so huge that I looked like the wash and set ladies. Still- I figured I would go home and do it myself and it would look cute and I know to do hair so no big deal.
Yeah, no. I have the same haircut as Sophia from the Golden Girls. No I am not exaggerating. I walked in the door last night and one of my kids wanted to know how I got Grandma's hair!:guilty:
I cried all night last night and all morning today. I know it is a stupid thing to cry about but I feel so ugly. The kids are so sweet and have been trying to cheer me up and keep telling me that they don't care what I look like because the most important thing is that I am their Mom. They are so sweet and I do agree with them but I honestly look horrible. I have poofy curly hair to begin with and I have 4 clips in it right now to hold it down. Otherwise I look like I have a hair helmut on. I am trying to suck it up but I really feel awful.
So, my question is- would you call the shop owner and complain? I know there is nothing she can really do because it's not like she can fix it. The lady was really nice who did my hair but I look ridiculous. Would you say anything?
I am never going back there again.
TIA.

I might- you could tell the owner what was "agreed" upon and show her what you got......... maybe she'll give you your money back.

I hope your hair grows fast.........

I feel your pain. I got my hair cut this weekend, and the girl and I were talking too much and now my bangs are way too short and the back looks choppy.

I don't know if you should complain at this point. When you saw she was cutting so much off that was the time to speak up.

Try not to take it too seriously, it WILL grow back. Just try using some extra straightening product and the clips for a few weeks.

I would complain--but that's just me.

I rememember when pregnant with my second daughter--I went to go and get a "Paige haircut" (Paige Davis from trading spaces). In that case, I got exactly what I requested, but I didn't like it. It was not the fault of the salon, so nothing to complain about. It took my hair about 2-3 years to grow b/c my hair grows so slow.

I no longer get major cuts while pregnant. I figure, I am not in the right state of mind to make such decisions.

Is there anything they can do to fix the style so that it looks less like grandma and more like a mom-to-be?

Any salon worth their license will try to remedy their errors.

They cannot fix it. Trust me. The longest part of my hair is about 2 inches. When I went in my hair was shoulder length. I will not be getting a haircut for a long time.

Aww--we've all had at least ONE awful awful cut!! I too have curly hair..and it tends to go big easily! Kinda like Kramer? Don King?;) It can get that 'set' or 'done' look really easily and look really frumpy. Ugh...

In a few days..it will settle down (down-keyword) and be managable for you..great thing is hair grows! Pretty fast too.

Would I call? Likely not. Not sure much can be accomplished? They might offer for you to go back for a fix...and that would be awkward. Go back though-never.

I don't see it mentioned in the OP, did you tip the stylist?

Me? I'd call and inform the management that you are unhappy with your cut. Most salons guarantee their cuts for at least 7 days.

i'm so sorry  i know exactly how you feel. i went to get a haircut one time, and my regular stylist was overbooked, so another stylist offered to do the cut for me. i'd had it done there 2-3 times by my regular stylist, and she told the other girl what i wanted and i also went over it with her myself. well, she started cutting and she cut one side in a completely different style than the other! so when i started to question her, she called my regular stylist over, who said "i should have told you how she is" and proceeded to finish my haircut herself. WHAAAT? suddenly it's unreasonable to want the left and right side of your hair to be cut in the same style? i'm not a difficult client, i tell the stylist what i want, get my hair cut, pay and leave. if that's difficult, then i guess everyone is difficult. needless to say, i never went back to that particular salon, and i'd been getting my hair cut there for years. i wish i had said something to the owner, whom i had known for several years, but i was so taken aback, i just paid and left.
in your position, i'd call and speak with the owner or manager, or find out when he/she is there and go show him/her my new "haircut".

I would call and complain. She should know that one of her stylists sin't exaxtly listening to her customers.

I did tip because I really thought that I could at least make it look cute. I thought maybe her blow out was just terrible. Even my DH (who thinks it looks cute) said that the blow out was completely age innappropriate and he couldn't understand how on earth she thought it looked okay on a young (okay- youngish) girl.

Oh I feel your pain!!! One of the worst things about moving constantly is that I always have wade through a few bad haircuts to find a good stylist, and just when I've finally found them, my husband gets new orders! Yuck!
By far the worst hair cut I've ever had was the mushroom hat someone gave my when I was 7 months pregnant with my son (not the time to have bad hair) I looked like Toad from Super Mario brothers!!! I had asked for an A line bob that hit just below my chin. She gave me a big poofy A line bob...that hit just above my cheek bone!! I complained and got my money back. They offered to have her fix it, but I didn't want to find out what kind of new pain this lady could inflict upon me.!
I would complain. It's one thing if a stylist can't give you the cut you desire because of your hair type or length, or if it ends up that the cut doesn't look as good as you thought, but when they just out right give you something you didn't want you shouldn't have to pay. I wouldn't pay at a restaurant if I ordered fish and they gave me beef instead!!!

I get that having been there myself before. I would call and talk to the management. They need to know why they have lost your business.

I know just how you feel. I went in for the Jennifer Aniston when it was big and I left looking like Mrs. Brady. It was soooooo bad. I would call the owner and let her know. The stylist is going to ruin repeat business.

Is there anything that they could possible do with coloring or straightening or something along those lines to make the cut look a little more contemporary and fit you a bit better?

If there is, I would call to see if they could offer that to you for free since obviously it is too short to fix with cutting.

sorry :(
I think we've all had the bad haircut blues. Chances are pretty good that in a week or two you'll at least figure out a way to work with it.

I finally learned to never brave anything but a trim with a new stylist. After a couple just an inch trim haircuts then you get a feel of just how her inches are measured and you can adjust.

Why oh why have I never thought of that??? That? Is a brilliant idea! Brilliant!

This is why I have followed my stylist to at least 5 different salons. I hate trying someone new.

OP-- can you use some kind of product to soften your curls so they don't look so 'old lady'?

I would absolutely complain.

I got a really bad haircut once. I asked for sholder-length with some shorter, face-framing hair, and showed a photo of what I meant, and the stylist gave me one of those mushroom-looking haircuts that a lot of African-American girls had in the early 1990s, with a longer part in the back (a Black mullet?). I was disappointed, left, but after I got home I broke down in tears and went back. The only way to fix it was to give me a shag, but the shag was better than the 'shroom.

Yes - call.. The management needs to know that one of their stylists is not following the customers instructions.. I've had that happen myself - where the stylist insists he/she know better what would "look good" on me than I do..:headache:

At this point, I guess all you can do is to try to straighten your hair - or wear hats 24/7 in hopes that it will "flatten" it down..

I would complain!!! That is NOT what you wanted. I remember getting a perm when I was about 14??? I wanted the perm, I begged for it. I have thick and naturally curly hair too and OMG. I was there for hours. OMG I had a curl mullet!!! They were so tight, it took a LONGGGG time to loosen it all up. My mom of course was fawning all over it. I got my school pictures taken with it.... :(
