Would you choose Inventions over Cafe Mickey if it would cost you no more?

At present we are booked in for Cafe Mickey at 12pm on the Sat and Auberge at 12pm on the Sunday.

We have half board plus vouchers and were going to use these for Cafe Mickey and to eat at somewhere like Annettes or the hotel on Friday night about 8:30pm and my dad was giving us the cash for Auberge.

We have just worked out - if we pay an extra £80 to upgrade to premium vouchers it will work out at just over £200, which would pay for Auberge and Inventions, plus leaving £40+ left over for a meal on Friday night (from the cash my dad was giving us).

Would you do this rather than our original plan? Auberge at 12pm on Saturday, Inventions at 1pm on Sunday and Annettes, Rainforest or hotel on Friday night? It may actually end up saving us money to upgrade and eat at Inventions instead of CM!

Hubby and DD are quite picky, is the choice at Inventions good? Well cooked meat etc?

We would get DD her birthday cake here? Would this be a good experience or is Cafe Mickey better for that?

Thank you!

I've chosen Inventions over cafe Mickey and I'm paying more. I had bad experience with cafe Mickey and don't want to come back.

Inventions has a massive selection of food so there is usually something for everyone however fussy and of course if they get something they dont like they can leave it and get something else.

I had my birthday cake at Inventions which was nice- the cake was really yummy. The only problem is there are loads of other yummy desserts there so you need to leave room for the cake. At Cafe Mickey you can use the cake as dessert.

Could you not do both by having a pizza to share at Cafe Mickey and then the cake - making it quite a cheap meal

Inventions all the way for me. Food quality and variety being the main reasons. Saying that, I do enjoy Cafe Mickey and have no issues with the menu either. They are totally different dining experiences. Both good for the characters but the layout and food are completely different.

Inventions - much less hecticv and I love the food choices :goodvibes

I like them both but Inventions would always be my first choice.

I second A Small World's suggestion of having the birthday cake at Cafe Mickey (perhaps Friday evening?) then you'll have plenty of room for the yummy desserts at Inventions.

Enjoy! :goodvibes

Agreed - Inventions would be my first choice too. Both times we've been we've done Cafe Mickey and it does depend on how busy it is on the type of service etc you get. Our first time there was awful, our second time slightly better but really only because of the character interaction. Inventions is a little more grown up (not totally tho!) and has better food (and I'm sure something even for picky eaters) and usually (but not always) better character interaction.

Agreed, Inventions has much better food and is a more relaxed occasion. I think you would see similar number of characters though.

Thanks guys! Will have a think and maybe change the reservations. We will get there at around 8:30pm on Friday night so DD may be too tired to enjoy a birthday cake at Cafe Mickey! But we'll see! I am swaying towards Inventions, just as I'm thinking CM on a Sat lunchtime may be a bit nuts!

Yes, definitely think Sat lunchtime will be busy at CM.

Sorry, just to clarify as I see the point Scott has made. The character interaction isn't necessarily better in that you see more characters at Inventions - it's just they tend to be different characters - the twice I have been to CM it's been Mickey, Chip n Dale, Goofy etc, at Inventions, it's been Scrooge McDuck, Geppetto, Launchpad McQuack (if that is his name - can't remember?) etc - so different to who you might normally see around the park etc which is nice.

They are very different restaurant experiences to be comparing.

We had a very poor experience at Inventions; albeit a while ago, and have not been back since. Conversely Cafe Mickey has always been a family favourite and never let us down.

I would consider giving Inventions another try if the price was compatible to Cafe Mickey's :)

Its a bit far in advance to be thinking of my meals for June, but its my dad's birthday while we are there and we want to go for a character meal with a cake. Obviously Cafe Mickey is the first to come to mind.

I've always really enjoyed Cafe Mickey personally, especially on my June 2011 visit where the atmosphere, service and food were all spot on. In Nov 2010 the food was just OK but characters were fab. And in Sept 2009 we enjoyed food and characters but found waiters a bit, erm, off. So a mixed bag of experiences like most people, but the character experience has never disappointed.

Can you get a birthday cake at Inventions? We have never been to Inventions but everyone raves about it so much that it might be worth a try for this special occasion.
