Would you cancel if the US goes to war?

Just wondering as my husband is a security guru and thinks cruise ship could be a big target in the ocean!! I say "What are the odds?"

Well, we pretty much ARE at war these days and no, I would not cancel my cruise. Security was stepped up greatly after 9/11 and although nothing in life is certain, I feel perfectly safe cruising. :)

I agree. The security was stepped up and, if you look for it, you can tell. I feel very safe and wouldn't even think of cancelling.

I spent the first 28 years of my life growing up 20 miles from one of the prime targets and rather explosive targets - Oak Ridge National Laboratories.

No I would not cancel.

I didn't cancel after 9/11 and I won't cancel if we go to war with Iraq.

Even tho we are at war and things are most likely to get worse in the near future, I do not think we would cancel. Now, if members of our family are called to go overseas that would be another story! Our country now sleeps with one eye open and I am a believer we have never been safer. God Bless America!

I also agree that security has gotten much better. I can't really say if we would of canceled or not if we had a cruise planned right after 9/11 last year. I'm sure that everyone would agree that it was a pretty scarey time but as far as our October cruise goes, no way, we are going :Pinkbounc

Especially a Disney ship, how much more American can you get?
That thought crossed my mind too, but it didn't stay long! There's all kinds of things to worry about. All the more reason to take a break and GO enjoy life.

No way. It would be more likely that terrorists would go after a fixed target like a building or monument.

I refuse to be afraid.

I'm one of those crazy people who canceled their Disney trip right after 9/11. I thought I'd be okay and then a week before I totally flipped out and canceled it. We were going to be traveling without our children, and I didn't want to leave my kids.

I don't agree that we *are* at War. War's have rules, this is more like a free for all. That's an issue for the debate board though, not here. :D

I think that when things escalate, I'll feel safer vacationing on a ship rather than anyplace on land. That may just be the Navy Vet in me. ;)

It's a different world than it was in the early 1900's and cruise ships offer a *very* limited target. There are specific attacks that could use such a location for a device, but in general I don't think that there's any danger.

Look at it this way. If something large and horrible happens on land when you're at sea. Say like, someone nukes WDW. The ship can take you to a safe (and still existant) port.

Actually, we booked our 01/22/2002 cruise on Magic right after 09/11 to due our part in keeping the economy going. Then we received the $99 cruise on the Wonder. No one is going to change the way I live my life.

One thing people tend to forget is that you have more of a chance of getting killed in your daily commute to work on the highway each day than you do from a terrorist attack. Yes, a terrorist attack is much more horrific, but don't let it stop you from living! Watching people die daily on our roads doesn't keep us from driving everywhere! You need to accept the reasonable risks and enjoy life.

Just needed some reassuring! I remember that awful feeling of 9-11 very well but have to remember that the odds are with me !!

We had our 10/11 cruise booked for several months and didn't even consider cancelling but we didn't have to fly to get to the ship either. We all carried our little American flags on sticks and waved them from deck 10 as we left port.

"O say does that STAR-SPANGLED BANNER YET WAVE over the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE??" It sure does!!!!!

We have sailed again since then ,just a few weeks ago and also just booked another sailing for after the 1st of the year. I have also flown twice since 9/11 from Florida to Chicago (In July and September). While visiting Chicago we went up into the John Hancock skyscraper 94 floor observation deck. I think the thoughts enter into my mind but we have to go on and not let fear overtake our lives..... that would be letting the terrorist win.
Enjoy your cruise and God Bless the USA!

You never know what tommorow will bring, enjoy today for today. No, I would not cancel my trip if we went to war. I want to enjoy my children while they are young, and I will not let some stupid jerk from Iraq ruin that. I am prior military and the thought of war scares me, because I never know if I will have to go back. So today is always important to me.

I booked my jan 19 cruise about 2 weeks after sept 11.I REFUSE TO LET ANYONE CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE IN AMERICA THE LAND OF THE FREE .[ And a funny thing hapened I had a fabulous time. ]DISNEY CRUISE LINE ROCKS SO DOSE AMERICA WE WILL PREVAIL!!!!!!!!:jester: :jester: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

As a disabled American veteran, I also REFUSE to be intimidated by bullies. Only if the USAF would take me back into active duty would I ever consider cancelling a vacation, but since I know that won't happen - NOPE! Not even Isidore or Lili is going to scare me off!

(Just don't mention snake to me!)

People with warped philosophies about religion and the world in general are NOT going to dictate how my family lives their life!

My son is outside of Iraq right now aboard the USS Normandy, and God willing, he will be on our honeymoon cruise in January. And believe me, he will NOT accept interruption of his first leave in 7 months lightly! :)

America AND Disney WILL survive!!

Proud Mama of a United States Sailor!! :D

Please thank your son for his service. The sacrifice he and your family have made to keep American free is a huge one - and it is very appreciated!

And to all active duty, reserve, guard and retired members - thank you and God bless.
