Would you call manager?

I dropped my car off at the dealership yesterday for a minor repair. I waited around in the TV room while it was being worked on. I became horribly sick while in there, felt like I was getting the flu. Sneezing, congested, etc. The area was carpeted. I generally do not have allergies but about an hour after I left there I was perfectly normal. Had to have been something in the carpet. Do I call the manager and tell him and possibly save other customers the same experience?

I would. It's not that you are calling to complain, but to make them aware that there MIGHT be something, like a chemical, in the carpet, that could potentially make someone really ill. I'm thinking about people who suffer from not only allergies but copd disease. I couldn't hurt to make them aware.

I would call and have done so in the past.

I scored a swim meet last summer and we worked inside a common room in the community's senior center. There was a nasty odor in the room and I ended up taking out the trash to help alleviate it but it didn't help. Two hours into the meet I had a KILLER headache along with almost everyone else. There was something in the room that made all of us sick. Once I was in my car and on the way home my headache disappeared. I was worried about the seniors who use the facility since they can be sensitive to chemicals/etc than most people so I told the manager of the senior center on Monday. Unfortunately, they have been trying to find and fix the problem for over a year!

I wouldn't. It could be some other allergen such as another person's perfume or soap/softening agent left on their clothes, it could be the kind of cleaners the janitors use, it could be the non-dairy creamer in the coffee. Or it could be the carpet.

In any case, unless people are walking out of the waiting room and going right to the manager, there's really no way they can determine what you were allergic to.

If it were me, I'd write it off and let it go. There's really nothing they're going to do about it anyway unless multiple people are complaining at the time the incidents are happening.

But if everyone "let it go" then how will they know they have a problem? If the OP's reaction was an isolated incident then it will be ignored by the manager, but if s/he gets a lot of complaints then there might indeed be a problem that needs to be addressed for the comfort and health of their customers.

I see nothing wrong with a non-confrontational phone call just to let the manager know there might be a problem.

I would, for this reason. It may be something they can fix.

Yep, that's the way I think too.

I would call - I don't see why not to, especially if you were that ill. I'd also ask what cleaner they use or ask if they had recently done work in there that could have accounted for your reaction so you can avoid it in the future.

I had to go up there again because I left my book. Told them andthey seemed very appreciative .:thumbsup2
