Would you buy now or wait?

DH and I are thinking about buying a small amount of DVC points (probably not more than 50-75 depending on which home resort we pick) now while we don't have kids and have the money. We were looking at HH and VB because they both look like beautiful and relaxing places to go to get away from it all. We were thinking that after we have kids (we're hoping to wait about 5 more years) we'd add on with a resort at Disney, then use our points mostly for family trips there. So would you buy some points now at a non-disney DVC resort to vacation there for a few years, then add on at disney, or do you think we should just wait and buy all our points at a disney DVC resort? We'd still take trips to our original home resort, during the summer since i'd have the summers off teaching to take our kids down the road, so we wouldn't completely stop going to VB or HH, we'd just probably take more disney trips. Does that make any sense?

Also, I noticed on the Timeshare store website that all the smaller point packages were all pending sales. We're not planning on buying points tomorrow, but in a few months when we have all the money to buy points saved, should we contact them directly so they can alert us when a resale comes up that fits our needs? Anyone have experience with buying small point packages?

I think this is great that you are looking into this so throughly. I say that if you love Disney and know you will want to go to Disney now and when you have children, then you should buy a small contract now. What resort you pick will depend on lots of things. Do you need the buy in to be lower so you can pay cash (great idea to do this) if so you can look at the lower properties such as VB, HH. OKW and SSR. These resort are in really good price ranges. However, also keep in mind that HH and VB both have much higher Maintenance fees. So 75 points at HHI or VB will run you higher per year than any of the Disney resorts. Also, if you are a teacher then going to Disney will be harder in the summer since it is a popular time to go and you may need the home advantage of a Disney resort. If you know that you will always be able to plan ahead (sounds like you do if you are a teacher) then having a home resort at Disney will be an advantage.

I think HHI and VB look lovely and we can't wait to try those resorts, but if you have not stayed there yet, I would be leary of purchasing just yet. Could you rent some points to stay at either one of them before you purchase? Is there a resort at Disney that you love?? VWL is going for good prices as well!

As far as the small contracts being pending, you are right you need to get on TSS list to get the resale infomation on small contracts. They usually go quickly. Also there are other resalers that are highly recommended on these boards. www.**********.com with Jaki and **** are highly rated and have access to lots of contracts too. So get on with both companies so they can look for you!
