Would you buy a gift for.....

your primary care physician that is leaving the practice you go to and going to work for a hospital? He's the best Dr. I've ever had. He's a great listener and he never makes light of any situation no matter how big or small. He's always available when anyone in my family needs to be seen. I really want to get him a going away gift, but not sure what to get? What would you give to your Dr. if he was moving on in his career?

A pen engraved with his name? Tiffany's used to have a doctor's pen--with the doctor's symbol of two serpents around a staff. I gave one to my OB/GYN after she delievered my firstborn. I had a very long and diffcult labor and she was really a rock.

Two great ideas. Thanks!! I'm sad he's leaving, but happy he's furthering his career. Primary care physicians don't make all that much money! I'm sure this move is a big advancement.

I'd also write a nice note, telling him how great you thought he was....I'm sure that would mean alot.

I would do any of those things. I gave my great ortho. who left to go to a bigger hospital a baby quilt I made when his wife had a baby and when new ortho. retired many years later kids and I baked brownies for him. Well kids made them and he was very touched, even when I warned him they may be a tad dry as DD measured herself and would not let me help. He was as dry as they come but after numerous surgeries he performed I got him to crack a grin and smile! I miss him but glad he is retired to someplace nice, close to Disney.

WHen I left the practice I was at to move on.....my patients were soooo thoughtful. Just some gifts I received:
Beautiful Peace plant
A Tiffany paperweight
Flowers/Silk plant
Vase
A white Lab coat with my name on it
Vermont Teddy Bear

Just a few ideas. I was overwhelmed with the generosity. Your Doc will appreciate whatever you do. It truelly is the thought that counts

The pen idea is noce, but I can tell you that as a nurse, a heartfelt thank you note is all we really ever want. In healthcare today, sometimes oyu wonder if oyu have actually made a difference to anyone, or just spent your time fighting insurance companies. A note detailing why your doc is special would be just as appreciated as a gift.
