Would you borrow them all?

Life happens, and so, when I begin to book a 2 bedroom and 2 studios for my aunts 80th birthday that's next October, I have a decision to make. Do I plan for the way we want it to be, or do I plan a "just in case" scenerio.

With all my BWV '06 points already used I'll be borrowing. I do prefer SV because of the points. It will be in October and the walk/boat to Epcot makes it easier for DAunt and her family. We still have enough VWL '06 points to book one of the studios there. That would be the "safe" ressie, if someone backs out. I would be able to bank those points, we have a March use year and the total used wouldn't be above 50% banking limit.

DH and I would be willing to use the VWL studio and be inconvenienced with travling back and forth if it turns out that we couldn't book BWV later, once people have bought air fares etc.

My DSis has had "work" issues for 2 previous October trips, so there is a history of backing out. I've asked for her input, but her company is in the process of being "taken over" and she really doesn't know.

I plan to make our December '06 ressies at VWL, so the studio points could also be reallocated to that ressie in case of a room cancellation for the birthday party as well. But that's not really "good" since there will be borrowed points for the December ressie, that's what I was saving the VWL points for in the first place.

It's just the idea of being a "family" get-together that keeps me from automatically saying that I'll book VWL for us.

What would you do?

I think I would book everything at BWV and hope, hope, hope! that no one has to cancel. It would be important to me that eveyone be in the same place for such a special occasion.

My back up plan would be to rent the reservation if someone backs out (and I can't otherwise use the points before they expire). October is Food & Wine (and MNSSHP time) and it should be relatively easy to "get rid" of a SV studio at BWV during that time.

Best wishes -

Call me Scrooge here!!! Are you treating the entire family, or just the Aunt, why not book for you and the Aunt, and let everyone else set themselves up in the Boardwalk, or Wilderness Lodge???

You are basically going into Point Debt to please everyone, and they can't even commit, bet if they had to shell out the bucks themselves, they would commit!!! Its far enough away that they could probalby get some pretty decent deals?

Now if you are treating everyone, (wish I had familythat could do that), then I don't know what to tell you, I would probably consider renting rooms also, and maybe a 2 bedroom for you and the Aunt, so you could entertain in the unit?

DAunt has a family, hubby and daughter living together, and they are primarily for the 2 bedroom. There is also a married son who lives in Florida and they could also share the 2-bedroom or use their Florida discount to get rooms on their own. There are others that THEY could invite to share their 2 bedroom. I chose to do it that way, we don't have the means to treat everyone in our family. This is my deceased dad's youngest sister and it's because of him that I wanted to treat DAunt. Her daughter, my cousin, is a friend as well as a relative.

The studios are for DSis and mom and then one for us. We are Empty Nesters. We have enough points to bring our own family once the DGrands get old enough to travel, for now, we invite friends and relatives.

My DSis isn't a freeloader by any means and she has shared some expense of the points so that she would always be welcomed when we have a family gathering. We never expected her to make the offer, but she did, we accepted, and so, I "accept" this dilemma.

CarolMN, that's what I was going to do, until I began second guessing this morning, just book and step aside so to speak and let it all turn out. I suppose we could invite someone else to the party. DH doesn't want to know the particulars of DVC, lucky me ;)

Thanks.

(((Hugs)))) Always hard to figure some things out eh?

I agree with Carol... book everything and hope... but I would also make a fantasy plan to use the points, just in case everyone bails and you can rent them out.
