I know BWV has two point schedules -Standard & Prefered. If you are willing to spend more points, and prefered is availible, you will be guaranteed Prefered. Here's my confusion: Prefered view does not mean BW. It could be pools, garden,BW or something other then a parking lot. I've never heard of them guarantee'ing a BW view.... only Prefered. Is BW view guarantee something new ?

Im sorry!! :goodvibes Yes Guaranteed Boardwalk View is a category that was introduced last year (2004) It still requires Preferred Points, but now if you request BW view at time of booking and it is available, then you are guaranteed it at check in. I just assumed that you were already aware of this.

H/A rooms don't bother me in the least. Non-smoking would get my attention much faster!

Thanx LB. I don't own at BWV and only stayed there once a few years ago. I haven't kept up on all the BWV details.

Have stayed in H/A rooms and really don't understand what all the fuss is about. But we all have our own particular hot buttons.

Agree with earlier poster who indicated that non-smoking guarantee would certainly get their attention.

I agree with CarolMN that we shouldn't have to bother with dues. The thought that HA rooms and NS rooms could be a home resort advantage up to the 75% mark really appeals to me! 7 month ressies might still get in under the 75% mark also depending upon the time of year. For me, the NS issue is by far the BIG one from my viewpoint. I hope DVC management will listen on these topics :listen:

:confused3 I'm confused as to why having a h/a room "doesn't" bother anyone that didn't ask for it. I was assigned a h/a 1BR at BCV last year and at first I didn't really notice. I went to the bed, well a little low, no big deal; I'm short so it could be a bonus. Then I went to the shower, that I did NOT like. :sad2: All I could picture looking at that was water all over the bathroom floor! Guess who's cleaning that up? Me, of course. Plus I'd be washing towels every day since I'd be wiping up the floor with them. I didn't see that as part of my vacation so I went back down to the desk and asked, very nicely and calmly for a non h/a; which they gave me. The weird thing was that I asked before I went to the room to make sure it wasn't a h/a. The CM I had was cranky when I first checked in and didn't even talk to me. So I talked to another CM this time who found us a 1BR non h/a. It wasn't ready yet, which was fine with me. When we did get to the room, it was non h/a and I was very happy about that, especially after looking at the shower all enclosed! :cheer2: I really don't want water all over the floor and it would be with that set up. Doesn't that bother any of you???

Yes, I think it would bother me. I have 3 young children and I would not want them getting water all over the floor and slipping on the tile. I would also be concerned about my 2 year old touching low stove knobs. I guess as they got older it wouldn't be as big an issue, however, I wouldn't be "thrilled" with the room. We have a 1 bdr BWV, boardwalk view booked for Dec and I think I am going to call MS and request non HA after reading this thread. The only request I made when booking was non smoking. From what I can gather, 1 bdr HA have a tub, is that correct? It would just be the shower, stove, and beds that are changed? How likely is it that we would get a HA room? How many HA 1 bdr boardwalk view rooms are there?

I don't think paying a ransom in order to guarantee an acceptable room is a good precedent to start at DVC. How much would DVC charge to guarantee non-smoking if we went down this road? When a member calls for a reservation, there's no reason DVC couldn't say "All that we have left are HA rooms. Would that be acceptable to you?" If it is, book it Dano, if not the member can either waitlist or try a different resort. Everyone is happy and we no longer have these "I hate/love/don't mind HA rooms" debates.

Actually I don't get upset at people who make lots of requests. I get upset at people who think request equals received. And I have stood in line more then once at a DVC resort listening to a guest make a fool of themselves complaining that "I requested XX and didn't get it." One guest went so far as to DEMAND that management remove the current family from "their" room. When management refused he claimed he was going to sue... He was so rude and abusive saying words that should NEVER be said in front of small kids (including his!) that I thought the manager and the CM were going to have to call security on him. (I would have if he had called me those things!) Maybe he really wanted a jail cell???

This thread and the other recent hcp have given me pause for thought.

I believe three things 1) requests are only that and none of us should be upset and have a fit when we don't get them and 2) hcp rooms are a reality and unfortunately for some, you may end up with them at a slight inconvenience 3) if you don't request it specifically, then don't complain!

Accordingly - I emailed DD and asked her how she felt about hcp. We agreed the lack of tub in 2nd br was fine (but wouldn't have been when the kids hated showers), and we could live with the lower beds, slightly lower kitchen/kitchen changes and that we could live with the possible water out of the shower and lower closet rails.

But, she didn't like the idea of no breakfast bar and stools when we had six in the room. It would mean that we all couldn't sit to eat (three at bar, three at table) at once if we wanted to.

We agreed that if we had a 1br with just her and I and the two kids, it would be fine, but with the two additional adults, it would disappoint her.

So - I called today and put non-hcp on the top of my requests (after med non-smoking which is most important of course).

But - other times - I could live with it. It's not like it's the rest of my life and all of my trips.

I think though this poll is trying to show that maybe HA shouldnt be a request but rather a choice we can guarentee. primarily due to the fact that as slight or great an inconvenience as it may be, no one really should have to be inconvenienced.

alot of people have been preaching that because it doesnt bother them to stay in a HA room then it shouldnt be a problem for anyone else. But it doesnt work that way, you dont get to choose what makes others feel uncomfortable or inconvenienced.

Here's a thought (tongue in cheek!!)

Charge a high premium for non-handicap rooms, and use the additional income for a big discount on handicap rooms.

I'm a wheelchair user!
