Would you and your kids like this "family gift?"

My family would have kissed your feet! Anything to get me to make them waffles would make them happy!

Thanks for all the responses and ideas.

Popcorn isn't an option right now due to braces.

I love the pretzel idea. I wish they were a few years younger because combining that kit with the children's book on the website would have worked really well for a home schooling family.

We've done the movies idea - always a good one.

Family gifts do get harder as the kids get older.

We also get games as family gifts and love them.

Saw a great game "table" at Costco this weekend..it had the pieces and playing space for Monoply, Scrabble, checkers, chess and poker chips. Really wanted to get it for my family but we'd already ordered our game for the year:guilty:

Have you checked Cranium's website....great games and always running a special.

"No" to the wafflemaker.

I vote for a family board game....."BLOKUS".

It's $30.00 at Target & definitely a "hit" with my family (DD13 & DS9).

There's a website, if you'd like to check it out. www.blokus.com

I'll have to check this game out. My family loves Apples to Apples. Take a look at this one it is great for all ages too.

My DS13 is sitting next to me. His answer was...."I like waffles, but that's not a gift I would like." Sorry...

Now I think it's a nice gift!:lmao:

I have one of those waffle makers and used to use it all the time, every Saturday and Sunday. I haven't used it lately, because I've been trying to lose weight (and I think waffles every weekend probably contributed to the last 10 lbs I gained over the past two years). But, I would think it was a wonderful gift. My husband and son also love waffles--I should make the extreme sacrifice and make them for my family, even if I can't indulge.

I'm really appreciating all the replies!

I'm investigating "Blokus." We've given family games before, but this is a new one to me.

We almost gave them a chocolate fountain last year, but were glad we didn't because they got one from the other side of the family! Big hit though!

I'm still pretty enamored with the do-it-yourself at the table waffle maker, so I haven't totally taken it off the list. I'm glad to hear some families would enjoy this.

We've exchanged "family gifts" for the last two years with this family (we stopped individual gifts when the youngest child from both families turned 10), so we've done a pizza/movie basket and an ice cream sundae themed gift. With the great ideas from this thread I'm thinking maybe a pretzel kit and a game of Blokus might be a good way to go.

"Eh" to the waffle maker.

May I suggest.....

A pizza making kit (peel, stone, recipe book and maybe throw in a pizza cutter) We LOVE ours and have used it for years. It's a tradition for us to make pizzas SuperBowl night. It's also the perfect gift for pizza lovers who can't agree on toppings!

Also....an ice cream maker. Cuisinart's ICE-20 or ICE-30 would be good choices. Check out the reviews...

Good Luck!

Yeppers to the Ice Cream Maker!!!:yay: Now that is something we would enjoy.:thumbsup2

And you could give toppings in a gift basket.

Last year my family received an ice-cream maker and all of the fixings for a family gift. We loved that. My kids were so excited about all of the sprinkles and yummy toppings, but my kids were 10 & 7.

No, we wouldn't, sorry. It would be put in a closet and never used.

The idea - one of those waffle makers that flips - like they have in the hotels. I saw them at Costco for less than $60. I see it as kind of a novelty, but something they could all actually use since the kids are old enough to get their own breakfasts.

What do you think?

WE got this gift... the flip over waffle maker, I think 2 years ago from my SIL and Brother (it was her idea) and since it was more $$$ than they spend on one person they gave it as a "family gift" my kids really loved the idea! We use it...... well not as often as we should, but we do use it and love the waffles that it makes, we like to make them for dinner as well!

I would say, it's the thought that counts and if you think they will use it at all, then go for it!

Why not get them movie passes or Blockbuster gc with popcorn, candy etc.
Snow cone maker. My little ones would really like one of those but my older 2 probably wouldnt be all that excited about it.

As soon as I started ready this thread, I thought that you should get them Blokus. We got it 2 years ago for my DS when he was 10. We pull it out all the time to play as a family and we had it out last week when his friends were over and bored. I suggested it and we had a great time. It is a strategic game that all ages can enjoy. Another game we like is Gobblet from Blue Orange Games. Only 2 people can play at a time, but the others watch and strategize what were good and bad moves. www.mindware.com has a lot of fun strategy games that are out of the ordinary.

Our favorite family gift is an ice cream maker. My boys love this!!! :rotfl:

(I didn't read all of the entries so I'm sorry if this was already mentioned)

We would like the waffle maker; that's probably why we have one!

I'll give another :thumbsup2 for Blokus. It's fun!

We gave a zoo membership as a family gift once.
