We have 5pm dinner reservations at BTRBBQ on our first day. Would we have enough time to see the 4pm Soundsational before dinner? If so where should we try to sit in order to get out of there in time?

My instinctive answer is yes, you can see the parade and then make it to dinner. I would pick a spot near the start of the parade and then head over to BTRBBQ as soon as it's finished. It's about 25 minutes long, so if you're at the start of the parade, you should be done by 4:30 pm. Which leaves you 15-30 minutes to get to the BBQ (position yourself on the Frontierland side of the parade route to make it easier).

You should have plenty of time. Find out which way the parade will be traveling and try to sit near the start.

How do we find out which direction it is going? Will City Hall know?

They should know, as would most of the CMs on the parade route. In general, the first parade goes from IaSW to Main Street. If there is a second parade the same day, it'll go from Main Street to IaSW.

The afternoon parade runs from IASW towards Main Street.

The parade will finish sooner if viewed from FantasyLand such as near the Tea Cups. The parade will finish later on Main Street as it will take awhile for the parade to reach there. Maybe 10-15 minutes later.

You always have the option of leaving the parade early if your running out of time. As long as you are on the adventureland side of the street so you don't have to cross you should have no issues moving around. However, you should be done with it in time.
