Would this upset you?

It's a new flavor, so there were zero sales last year. If they sold any on the West Coast this year, it's trending there. I really think Kernel Popcorn was making fun of sales and marketing gimmicks, but if this is the hill you want to die on, so be it. At least it's a hill of popcorn.

It seems like the Boy Scout organization in and of itself is too top heavy. Although I'm sure the Girl Scouts are the same way. That's the nice thing about school bands. The top person is the band booster president, not some council no one ever talks to.

How many pounds do you get for $30?

POUNDS???ROFLMAO??? Its 22 OUNCES!

I would be more upset about my kid trying to get someone to pay 30 bucks for popcorn than anything else! 4.00 for a box of girl scout cookies is one thing- but 30.00 for 22 ounces of popcorn-that should be illegal!!

As a former scouter and mother of Eagles, some posts were starting to bother me, so I did a little easy Internet research. Anyone can read about the Trail's End program. Of the $30 price, $21 is returned to the local council (which oversees a number of districts in an area) and the individual scout's unit (troop or pack). This being a Disney forum, I've read how much people spend on Rice Krispie treats and the like. $9 for a bag of gourmet caramel popcorn? Please. Most wouldn't bat an eye.

This is a fundraiser for scouting programs. If you don't want to fund scouts, don't buy the popcorn. The popcorn is a token you get for making a donation to the organization.

I bought some great chocolate caramel nut popcorn last popcorn season, if I'm not mistaken. The conversation I had with the Scouting family who was selling it outside my church was priceless.

This bit deserved to be repeated.

Been in scouting for many years and refuse to sell the popcorn. Will sell anything else they ask, but popcorn is a no-no. It is highway robbery and until they sell something at a reasonable price....I'm out.
Girl Scouts can sell cookies at $4/box, but Boy Scouts want $25 for popcorn? No thanks.

(Though I don't know why, because you all JUST read it.)

I only buy that popcorn from my nephew. That being said, I buy the $50 chocolate assortment. And it is tasty but geez, the $50 price tag is obscene. I never have anyone buy $50 worth of GS cookies from my kid.

I politely decline when I walk by the boy scouts at the store booths. And that's a shame. If their prices were reasonable I would buy a small token. Usually when I see booth sales for GS cookies I will buy a box and put it in their "Gift of Caring" box which is usually for the troops or the local food bank.

Your explanation makes it even worse.

An organization that feels it is ok to rip people off with an over 200% markup? That is robbery. I don't care how much the money is needed, selling $9.00 popcorn for $30.00 is so not right. Do several fundraisers, don't rip people off.

Knowing that the BSA thinks it is perfectly ok to rip people off, you have just made a case for me to never buy another kernal of popcorn from the BSA again.

(Not that I would have anyway, but I was on the fence of just donating some money.)

I will support all the Eagle Scouts that are returning their honors!

This thread is hilarious, really. People who willingly pay exorbitant prices for anything Disney are freaking out over overpriced fundraiser popcorn. This is pure comedy gold here, folks.

sincerely,

a proud mom of a Boy Scout and a Girl Scout, and completely willing to pay through the nose to have fun in WDW

We sold popcorn for years...the kids came up with all kinds of ideas to sell popcorn. Everyone knows it is a fundraiser and you pay A LOT for a LITTLE bit of popcorn. Actually, we made a lot just from people putting a couple bucks into the donation basket!

I wouldn't worry about any "marketing strategy"...just sell it. The people buying the popcorn aren't worried about who is eating it...they are buying it because it sounds good to them and they are willing to donate.

Touche! :thumbsup2 lol

9 year old boys don't naturally talk to people about what is "trending on the West Coast." Seriously, if the product is to sold by the KID, let the KID tell me in HIS words why he thinks it is worth a purchase. I'd rather have a boy speak honestly with me in his own words and tell me it is "really good" "awesome" or whatever. "trending on the West Coast" sounds like a canned phrase someone adult made up. So really, the adults are doing the marketing/selling, that's a turn off for me.

$30 dollars for a bag of popcorn?! What the heck are they trying to make you guys sell? I would say heckkk no!

Gosh, will you still support those of us that don't return our honors?
As an individual, yes. The accomplishment is nothing to be sneered at.

However, I draw the line at supporting the BSA. And that includes a just short of 250% gouging of the public they want to support them.

Sorry, don't do Disney. And don't do overpriced popcorn.

But at least at Disney, you get value for the overinflated prices. Somebody here said the popcorn was just a token for the donation. I don't think Disney is just a "token" experience.

I can't get past $30 for a bag of popcorn. Sorry, trending flavor or not, this is nuts.

Speaking of nuts, the $25 caramel corn with almonds and pecans is AHHH-MAZING!!
Thanks for the heads up on popcorn season. I'll make sure to carry cash when I go to Micheal's for the next few week. that's where the scouts hang out around here. lol.
