I understand that you don't want him to be your financial planner. I wouldn't do it either. But I wouldn't be upset for him asking. He may not know that you already told his wife no. If I were you I would call back and say "I'm not really comfortable with a friend planning my finances. No offense, yada yada yada. I don't want to waste your time." If he pushes, then I would be upset.

I totally agree with this. Maybe the wife didn't tell him, or maybe she did and he didn't listen.

i don't think you even have to give a reason-just say "no".

we've had friends and aquaintinces contact us regarding services or sales and i always say "no" (i don't mix bsns. with personal relationships), if they start questioning or pressuring me i simply say "is this the manner you use with all of your potential clients? i can't imagine it's very successful". that usualy ends the conversation.

Your friend was out of line. I would call him back and just tell him you changed your mind.

A friend's husband was a CPA, and we used him for out tax return several times. The last time he did it, we owed a bundle, he really did not invest time in us or make suggestions regarding our business, and he specialized in small businesses.That was it fo us, we were referred to an accountant who had many clients with small farms, and he too k the time to help us make better decisions regarding our expenses.

FF to when friend becomes a financial planner.....you guessed it....would we like to take our investments to him? Not a chance, but it was awkward because he knew that we no longer required his services for taxes. Why would he invest time in assisting us in financaial planning if he could not find the time to discuss our tax return?

I'd cancel. If you got pressured into meeting with him, just think when he gets you in a room....you're gonna feel pressured to tell him things you don't want. Your friendship could take a turn for the worse!
