Would this Monorail Idea Work?

Let me propose this question to get people's thoughts.

If you a rope drop person such as as we are meaning you get to the park early and actually walk to the TTC rather than take a tram since you are so close. Mind you we stay on site so parking fees are free.

Does it even make sense to park at a resort and take a guest spot? Are you really saving any time.

If you really think about it parking at a resort to visit a park doesn't make much sense since your really not saving much time. Why take the risk of being towed. Unless you trying to evade parking fees. Which is wrong.

OK, I'm confused. You're the one who said you would be more than happy to pay $30 to be able to park at BLT to go to MK. Now you're saying that you don't see the point in parking at a resort for park access since you don't see it as saving much time.

The BLT avoids the monorail and you can walk to the park from the lot. I'm talking about all the people who park at the Poly only to still hop on the monorail.

First of all...if I'm staying onsite, there is no way I'm driving my car to MK. That's the one park almost everyone agrees that it's better to take the resort bus. No taking the monorail or ferry.
I think you will find that the vast majority of people that want to park at a resort and then go to a park fall into one of two catagories...
1. Have an ADR at the resort and they don't want to have to move the car to the TTC.
2. Staying offsite and want to avoid paying to park.

Very few people think it's quicker to a park. Parking at the CR/BLT is about the only time it's going to be quicker.
Those that park at BW to gain access to Epcot??? They are either avoiding parking fees or trying to avoid the mass exodus from Epcot at park closing. But here's the thing...it takes about 15/20 mins to exit Epcot and walk to the parking area for BW. You could have just taken your time at Epcot and strolled out of the park, avoiding the mass exodus. But, people believe what they want to believe.
Those that park at the CR/BLT??? They are going to get hung up in the exodus as well..you pretty much have to drive right past the TTC area. SAme thing for the other two resorts..Polynesian and GF.

Most people are trying to avoid paying.

I'm one who sometimes drive to MK. I haven't stayed at OKW in a long time (it was a favorite of my mom's before she passed) but I found it better to drive. One time I timed it from our front door to the MK turnstiles using the tram & express monorail, 25 minutes. Sometimes the bus would not be out of OKW 25 minutes later. I timed it one time from the BWV parking lot during summer busy time, 30 minutes.

As long as "holding for clearance" is one of your favorite Disney phrases then drive to MK and take the monorail

I drive to every Disney park, but MK when I stay on site. Disney transport to MK is so much better then either the hassle you go through from the parking lot

And when I stay offsite and drive to MK I take the boat. Monorail is crowded, smelly, and unreliable IMHO.

Oh dear God...one of my least favorite things to hear!!! We've been 'held' up high, for about 45 mins!! Man, that was not fun!!! People getting scared and panicked...not to mention a wee bit toasty!!!

I use the monorail only if I have plenty of time to spare, or at less busy times of day...never at opening or closing!!!

Great! I wish you nothing more than many more happy Disney vacations. It is a truly magical place.

And I will be more considerate of Deluxe resort guests and valet!

Perfect reason to tell my wife we have to valet. Lol

Thank you and I wish you the same. I live here, so, I just visit.

ChrisNY2 is right; here's what the other poster said:

No, Chris in NY2 missed this, as I assume you did also.

Do they always give the 2 hour pass? Stayed at POR in July and went to chef mickey at the Contemporary never got a 2 hr pass they just let me right in. Also did the Spirit of Aloha at the Poly again they let us right in.

Now I know it is frowned upon but I did leave my car in the lots and visited MK.

Me thinks that only people who are staying completely offsite get the 2 hour pass.

OMG, 45 mins!!! I would be going nuts. Between people panicking, people being scared, sneezing, coughing (I am a germaphobe), sweating, kids crying, and it getting toasty, I think I would want the doors to open so I could jump!!!

I was having the same thought!! It was just nasty...and we were on our way to HDDR!!! I just kept looking at the time. We had walked through Epcot, then taken the monorail over to the TTC so we could switch to the Express line to get to MK...wanted to take our time and not rush. Yeah, how'd that work out for us??? Just trying to enjoy some down time traveling over to FtW!!! NOT.

Y'all are crazy about parking at Deluxe resorts. Now our family has been staying at monorail resorts every year sometimes twice a year since the early 80's.

Never taken the kids out of school so we are always there during peak season. We drive to all the parks other than MK.

We have come and gone to our resorts at all variety of hours and never once have we not found a parking spot. I never even fathomed the idea of not finding one. Granted sometimes we park far away but always found a parking spot.

So for me personally I don't see a problem with where people are currently parking as in over the past 20 years I have not been effected.

I would love to start a voting thread and see how many people on the boards have returned to their deluxe resort and did not find a parking spot.

As a DVC member at BWV, I can tell you I have gone round and round in that parking lot. A couple of times I gave up and used valet.

If word got out that there were no restrictions on parking at the monorail resorts, they would be full in no time, especially people trying to get out of paying the parking fee.

Can't comment on the deluxe resorts outside Epcot. Never stayed at any of them.

I think I never witnessed the full lot problem because Disney does a good job of removing the cars that don't belong.

In regards to free parking at MK. I'm sure most people are well aware of the certain roads, they will go unamed, that get you to the TTC lot and bypass the parking both. Although I don't condone it.

Darn you google maps. Lol

First of all...allow me to welcome you to the DIS boards..always nice to see new folks here. Seem to be a lot of newbies lately!!!

But...it is expressly against board guidelines to discuss any ways around Disney policy. And I kinda think that chatting about using alternative roads to access TTC in order to avoid parking fees is probably nothing Disney wants discussed!!! So, let's try to keep that in mind.

As far as not being able to find a spot?? While I have never 'not' been able to find a spot at BW, I have had to take much further from the front spots. And why is that??? Because folks have decided to use the BW parking lot to access either Epcot or DHS...usually Epcot since it's closer than DHS. How do I know this??? I have watched the parking lot empty about 30 mins after IllumiNations ends!!! Tons of closer to the front spots then. Those people arrive mid-afternoon to early evening..they take those closer to the front empty spots. Now, when BW people return, they are forced to head to the back of the lot.

Disney doesn't, in fact, move those cars that are parked in the resort lots, but belong to non-resort guests. The issue is this....can you get away with parking at a resort in order to access a park more easily? Sure you can...well, most of the time anyway. Does that make it right? Nope. Those of us staying at the deluxe resorts are paying a lot of money to have the close proximity to a park, or two.

So, what would I like to see happen???
Well, I would like this...
1. gated parking lots that allow keyed access to the main area, with a manned lot for non-resort guests. IF they get their parking slip validated and don't go over the allotted time, they get free parking. Otherwise, they have to pay to park there.

2. I would like to see all pools gated as well...with keyed access, just like at BLT.

3. I don't think the monorail needs any tweaking. Yes, there are some who get on the Resort line to avoid longer lines for the Express, but it really isn't all that bad.

My apologies about the roads. Just read the policy page. Good thing I left the road names out. Lol I'm sure it's not really a secret anymore these days with google and the Internet. Lol

Anyway, have you communicated to Disney about the parking issue at the Epcot area deluxe resorts?

I'm sure if they get enough complaints they will address the issue.

If no one complains Disney will think every thing is going just fine.

I have complained several times and even had a personal conversation with the Boardwalk GM. He said they have to balance the needs of the hotel guests vs patrons of the boardwalk establishments. Problem is people lie and say they are going to the boardwalk when they are actually going to Epcot. When I had standard view rooms, you see a stream of people parking and pushing strollers up to the boardwalk entrance in the morning. The only thing open in the morning is breakfast at Kouzzina and the boardwalk store. Something tells me they are not all going there. And then the parking lot empties out after Illuminations.

The situation has gotten better. They block the entrance from the main driveway and have a guard checking room keys at the back entrance on weekends, especially during food & wine. This forces non-BW guests to the lot across the street, which isn't as convenient.

Since you will have a car with you....you might find you would rather drive to the parks anyway.......when our grandson was younger and we had a stroller with us, driving to the parks was always our first choice of transportation. You're staying onsite so will have free parking anyway......why wait in bus, boat, or monorail lines when you can just leave the park, walk to your car, fold the stroller and drive to your resort.......in about a quarter of the time you will spend using Disney transportation.....especially at the end of your day....with tired children? It's no fun standing on a bus....trying to hold a child and keep the stroller (which must be folded on the bus) from banging into other people who are also standing.....because believe me, the buses are packed going back to the resorts......especially at end of day.

Wow the BW resort lots sound a lot worst than the monorail resort lots.

I guess it is tough to police considering the BW itself is a major attraction.

I was on google maps and took a look at the lots near the Epcot Deluxe resorts.

Is it me are is it a hike to get to your car from the hotel?

We drive to all the parks from POFQ and always request a room that is right outside the parking lot.

I know that sounds crazy but we like to get up and go go go!!!

I can sometimes actually see my car from the room and love it.

It is a big distance, especially if you are in the boardwalk view rooms at BWV. Last time we were in 3001, which is right next to Jellyrolls. We were closer to the Swan bus/boat stop than the BW. The self park at GF is pretty far too. Depending on where your room is the others it could be a big hike.
