Would this be stretching the spirit of the Dining Plan?

Kind of long sorry. Can we use 10 FS meals on one card even if we are not all on the plan? Just hear me out but also feel free to set me straight because I am trying to coordinate a group of 10 for June. Since we are using DVC and have a full kitchen we planned to use GG for the most part but also plan a few meals out.

We have a 2BR and a studio (seperate ressie linked) for 5 nights at BCV, then a 2BR and a studio for 2 nights (sep res) at VWL. We had planned to do the DP for the 2 weekend nights (20 dinners/lunches) and cook all week (which we still may). But it turns out we are in a better location for where we want to dine during the week, and also have 2 birthdays during the week. Anyway can we set up 4 guests in the studio on the DP but have them pick up 10 dinners/lunches twice during the week (20 total)? Or do the room keys say 4 meals max at one time or something, can you treat other guests, any info appreciated. TIA.

Or should we just wait for the weekend because that's just the way it should be?

No, they won't let you do that. They will only give you the number of meals for which you have cards at any single meal.

Wow that was easy, thanks crisi,, guess I could have shortened the question.

The brochure now has a Q & A about this very question and the answer is as noted. That doesn't mean it'll always work that way or that there are not ways to play the game. But as noted, the technical answer is you only get the number of meals as you paid for at any given time.

Hi Dean,
I hesitate to mention this here but there is no way for them to know how you use your counter service meals. I was told when I picked up the food plan at the front desk at the BCV I could buy ten cs meals at once if I wanted. I had relatives visiting with us for the weekend and I used my cs meals for all of us for one meal. I think we used 5 that time. But it is your plan and you paid for it. I do not feel that giving my meals away merits a slap on the wrists. You cannot do this with sit down meals since it is more closely monitored but for counter service and snacks how can they possibly keep track?

The room keys are coded with how many adults and how many children are on the plan. If the codes don't match the number of people at the table the server will ask to see each guests room key.

Marylyn,
When did you do this? We did something similar back in December, but the rules have supposedly been tightened (I think starting in January??) At any rate, I would not advise anyone to count on being able to share credits anymore.

This did change back somewhere around mid Dec. All along the rule was non transferable which some interpreted as not being able to pay for others but I do not agree that simply stating it's non transferable means you can't share. However, they changed the brochure apparently several times in Dec and added a FAQ about this very subject that said you can't share. Apparently they've tightened down on only getting the number of meals listed. There are still ways one could get around some of these rules if they were inclined but I don't operate that way.

This thread really belongs on the Dining Plan Board.

However, since jade1's question has been answered and since the thread would would just get closed if I moved it to the DP Board (Threads about interpreting the DP rules are not allowed), I am closing it here.

Those who want more info on the Dining Plan are invited to visit the Dining Plan Board
