Would these power lines bother you?

We're in the middle of a snowstorm here and we've got two power lines laying on the ground in our backyard about 6 feet from our house. They are still attached to the pole and our neighbors house but they are hanging on by a thread. I already called the power company and the city but they are swamped and I don't know when they'll get here.

The thing is, I don't want dh to go to sleep tonight b/c I'm afraid the lines will snap, jump around, hit our house and cause a fire while we're asleep.

Dh thinks I'm being silly and that power lines only jump around in the movies. I don't really know b/c I've never seen one in real life.

Would you be worried?

Yes, I would be concerned! Anything that has even a potential to be dangerous should not be disregarded, IMHO.

I would be like you and be afraid to fall asleep!

because I'd so much rather dh do it! If enough people agree with me then I guess I'll have to. But if the dissers think I'm over-reacting then I'll go with dh's opinion....

I don't think power lines actually jump around except in the movies. However, if they did, I would think they would be doing right now. They're not likely to wait for you to go to sleep to start.

ok from experience during pasty ice storms etc, yes downed live wires may snap aroud, not as elaborately as in the movies sometimes, but they can its cused by the electricity grounding out to the earth. i would definately stay up till the power company can reach the area at the moment i am reading that they are down, but still connected at both ends, should the home end break loose the wires can and will become very very dangerous. please call power company again, and get a time frame.

Thanks everybody. Looks like I'm staying awake tonight. I called the power company again and they said they had 432 calls waiting on hold after mine. They don't know when they'll get over here. And when it comes down to it, if dh doesn't think it's serious then I probably can't trust him to stay awake.
