Hi all :yay:

We go to Florida (Orlando) 1-3 times per year and often we are on 417 or Bee-Line or Osceola Parkway

We always rent a car when we are there as well

Would either Sun Pass or E-Pass work for us with a rental car?

Thanks

I'm not sure you can use it with a rental or not because it has to tie into your license plate/registration, they need an address to send the bill and they have the vehicle information is tied in with that specific transponder.

Normally, it's $25 for the transponder, then you basically fill it with increments starting with a minimum of $25. You just have to figure if the transponder is worth the investment. For more info check out: Sunpass Info

You'll just have to call Sunpass from the airport with the rental car info each time before you use it. In all honesty we forgot to do so several times and never had a problem.

The Sunpass is registered to YOU not a specific car, and you can use any address, it doesn't need to be a Florida address. But they do want to have the tag number of the car it's being used on. You can have multiple cars registered to a single Sunpass.

You do need to decide if the cost of purchasing the transponder ($25) is worth it to you.

I have a Sun Pass tied to my car (IL) but have used it with rental cars with no problems. Just stick it up in the window and go.

:thumbsup2 We have the SunPass also, and we live in Massachuseets and never drive our own car in Florida. We have only used our SunPass in rental cars so far. We just call the SunPass service center when we get the rental car (since the cell does not work in National's MCO garage, DW does the calling in once we are out of the airport, while I drive) and give them all the relevant info on the rental car. The when we get home, I go on-line and remove that vehicle from the SunPass account. It is important that you register the rental vehicle in case the transponder does not register in a tollbooth for some reason; that way they can simply bill your account for the toll rather than sending you a hefty ticket for toll evasion.

We got our SunPass in late 2004 and it had paid for itself (in reduced tolls for SunPass users) by the end of February 2005; we went to WDW in Nov '04, then a conference in Miami in Jan '5, a drive from there to Vero Beach, and then on to WDW via the BeeLine and 417, and finally, we loaned it to friends who used it for a round-trip on the Turnpike from West Palm to WDW.

Buit even if it hadn't paid for itself, the convenience of having it is worth the $25 cost for the transponder.

You get all signed up on the Turnpike's website quickly and easily.
Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback and information - I was a little concerned about the have to register the car thing on the site but looks like easy enough to call them and register the car

Since we pick up our rentals sometimes after midnight is the registration process open/call centre open all night?

cheers
