DD and I decided Friday to go to WDW October 14th-18th. I have never been in October. Doing MNSSHP(17 th) and Food and Wine Festival(16 th). Would love any imput about these and weather and how crowded are the parks. We usually go the end of April or early December. We plan on doing the food and wine festival on a saturday, are we crazy? We will be staying at my new home SSR. Any tips would be apperciated. Thanks, Susan

Hi Pooh's Pal. We will be at the same MNSSHP! We are arriving on the 17 and departing on the 22. We are also staying at SSR. It is my first time to go in October in years. My sister, who will be joining me on this trip went last October and said low crowds and that the weather was not unbearably hot. Looking forward to a great trip. Hope you enjoy yours.

October is a wonderful month! I went for a short "all gals" trip in Oct. of 2002 (for my 50th) The weather is wonderful, I though it was similar to April and the crowds were not that heavy at all. We went to MVSHP and loved it...(get your picture taken there with your DD)
The F&B is also a not to be missed attraction. We wandered aimlessly around Epcot trying all different types of food. And it shouldn't be bad on a Saturday. We were there over a weekend and it didn't seem too bad.
You should try the spa at SSR, while you're there, I'm sure you and your DD would love a day of pampering! God knows we need and deserve it!
Go for a nice dinner...maybe something at the GF resort & watch "Wishes" or eat at the Flying Fish, walk the Boardwalk after dinner, catch Illuminations, or hook up with others on the DIS and share an Illuminations cruise!! That would be special also... Whatever you do ....have fun!

Poohs Pal! hehehehe...that sounds so funny...it's like talking to myself...strange!

msmouse: How nice you will be at the same MNSSHP and SSR. If you happen to see two pooh sized(currently working for tinkerbell size lol) red haired Adult women acting silly it'll be us, please say Hello! Susan

Uktigger: First MNSSHP for us also. I don't know if we will be wearing costumes. Maybe Mickey Mouse Club T-Shirts. Will you be wearing costumes? Susan

ttichenor: We are also waiting for the double digit dance. We just decided 2 days ago to visit WDW so the wait won't seem that long for us. Thanks for the links. Susan

Pooh's Pal: Love the name. Can't tell you how many time's i would see your ID and think, hey I didn't write that(LOL). DD and I have done many of the things you mentioned. Love both the GF and SSR(DI) spa. I really enjoy nthe illuminations cruise. Both DD and I are looking forward to the F&W festival. We both like Taylor Dane and she will be performing will we are there. We will also use this time to celebrate my 50th and her 32nd birthday. Susan

Yeah, I don't think I'll dress up either. I will wear a Disney themed T-Shirt. Dressing up would be fun. Maybe I'll go as Pippi Longstocking--have the red hair for it. Susan

hi susan:wave:

what ever we choose to wear at least we will be at the most magical place on earth:bounce: :Pinkbounc

i don't think my 2 boys want to dress up at all they would be mortified if i were to put them in costume:teeth:

Here's what we found in October 2001 (just after 9/11, so maybe not all that great to judge):

Food & Wine Fest was VERY crowded on Saturday night. Afterwards, we found ourselves second-guessing our decision to do this on a Saturday night. I advise you to try another night. I think many locals enjoy F&WF and Sat. is when they can come...or tourists read guidebooks, which say that during school year, the best day for Epcot is Sat. Anyway, I wouldn't do THAT again, no way!

MNSSHP was also very crowded. Stay away from the River Belle cruise and the free group photo, and I think you'll be OK. We did the special cruise and were crammed in like sardines, couldn't hear one word the narrator was saying, and wasted the better part of the party, between this and picture-taking. Just take your own pictures behind the castle (there's a beautiful model of Cinderella's pumkin coach, all lit up with real pumpkins around it, just great, and also FREE).

We had VERY cold weather, all day, almost every day. I know this was not typical, but we were totally unprepared, both mentally and physically. Just be prepared for the possibility that you might need more than one pair of long pants and sweatshirt.

I sound like I hated my trip...it was phenomenal!! These were are only mistakes and it was otherwise perfect and magical..:sunny:

Here's a tip to get your photo at MNSSHP as well as MVMCP.. go after 10:30pm. We would pass by the lines before that time and they would be horrendous ,but, anytime after 10:30p you will find little, if, any lines at all. We are also going this year to MNSSHP on the 8th!!!! We loved MNSSHP last year !!! ::yes::

uktigger:
Sounds like a good idea. I will let you know what we will be wearing. We plan on entering the park about 4pm. Susan

iloveeyore: What about Friday for the F&W. We are arriving about 2pm on Thursday, will have Friday and Saturday, MNSSHP on Susnday and going home early Monday. Thanks, Susan

Brigettsmom: I agree about the picture. Do it very last or be first in line. We do first in line for MVMCP. Susan

October is my all time favorite time of the year to visit WDW. Heck, it's my favorite time of the year to visit Florida period!!! The weather is beatiful and the crowds will definitely be lighter than your normal trips. One thing to remember. The parks close earlier in the off season. Keep that in mind.

disneyatl:
Glad to hear about the weather. We won't mind about the parks closing early,we plan on doing other activities for the evenings. Susan

susan:wave:
we are aiming to be at the gates for about 4.30::yes::

see you there:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DD and I plan on hopping over to MK about 4pm. We are thinking about visiting the shops at the monorail resorts first. DD has to get her yearly supply of tea at the Garden veiw lounge. Susan
