As far as I'm concerned, I think the OP should bring it. She doesn't need to tell her son she has it, but if he does get antsy, she has it there just in case.
It wouldn't matter to me if a child had a DS with them or not as long as they weren't interupting my dinner. What I ordered won't taste any different because there is a DS around so personally I don't see the big deal.
