Would it be unforgivably tacky if...?

As far as I'm concerned, I think the OP should bring it. She doesn't need to tell her son she has it, but if he does get antsy, she has it there just in case.

It wouldn't matter to me if a child had a DS with them or not as long as they weren't interupting my dinner. What I ordered won't taste any different because there is a DS around so personally I don't see the big deal.

OP, I hope you enjoy your trip and have a wonderful dinner at CG!

The only electronic device I have at my dinner table is my camera. I write dining reviews, so throughout the evening I take pictures of the food. This actually *creates* conversation as I ask those I am dining with what they think of their meal. However, I never use a flash as it could distrupt patrons at the next table.

Now I have to be honest with you. As much as I enjoy dining reviews, I don't think taking pictures at the table is acceptable, especially at a better restaurant. I find it *disruptive* and peculiar. But you find it interesting and a conversation point with others at your table.

I truly don't see the difference between an electronic device used to entertain an 11 year old and a camera. As a matter of fact, I think the adult should know better. But that's the difference in opinion that makes the world go round.

I think there's a big difference. Taking a photo takes about 3 seconds and if you don't use flash then there isn't a disturbance for others. I doubt anyone would even notice a photo is being taken.

Playing a game could last a long time and the glowing screen plus volume could be a distraction to other diners. In a dark restaurant, that glowing screen is a nuisance to those in nearby tables.

The OP has made her decision and this thread has wandered off to the emerald city
