Would anyone not stay at WL

Just for the record, I hate camping but love the WL! :goodvibes

I didn't mean if you hate camping - you will hate the WL - it is still a deluxe resort - running water, electricity, a bed!!! :rotfl:

I just didn't like the lodge feel to it - it seemed dark to me - I think it is more about the pace you enjoy and if you like being off the beaten path!

The WL is beautiful both inside and out. We tried it a few times. But it wouldn't be my first choice for these reasons. We drive everywhere because I can not ride a bus. It is a very long walk from the room to the car. There are not enough dining choices there for us.

We did walk to Trails End Buffet. That was very nice if you like to walk and have the time. The launch was nice to MK. We were there in early Dec and it is a beautiful time to be at that resort.

WL will never be high on my list of places I want to stay. It just doesn't do anything for me. Our room at the end of July was ok (a little worn), our view was ok (not worth paying extra to watch the fireworks through the trees), the pools were incredibly busy but nice, service was like all WDW resorts, etc. AKL is my favorite WDW resort because it feels so unique to me.

I wouldn't go back. I didn't think the transportation was up to par. I also thought the rooms were really small and the pool undersized too. I'd rather stay at the Poly.

We can't afford WL, so thus the reason we won't stay there. Moderates are the best we can afford. :earsboy:

I an not an outdoorsy person at all, hate camping and anything wilderness. Yet for some reason I just LOVE the WL. Maybe because it's the beauty of the wilderness with all the touches of home. I love the fact that the hotel is all under one roof-that is very important for me. It;s a large resort yet it feels comfy and homey.

I agree, Roaring Forks could be larger and offer a few more choices but it is really quite adequate. I ate there several times, it';s not gourmet cooking but it's quite fine for fast food. I love WCC and always make a point to eat there at least once(including eating there when staying at other DW resorts).

The pool is beautiful and the rooms are certainly large enough for four without feeling cramped. The queen beds are a nice touch after a long day in the parks. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to stay there.

It really does seem like a quiet peaceful oasis in the middle of the hubbub that is DW. Even at full capacity(as it was in July) I never felt cramped or rushed. :wizard:

love the theming as well and the easy transport to MK but have to agree with the lack of food choices..we stayed this summer in a studio for 4 days then switched to BWvillas--the food choices are soooo much better over there! But love how quiet the WL is! I would stay there again but with a grocery stop!

I would recommend WL to almost anyone. That was one of our most magical stays. We loved the boat launch to MK and being able to take the smaller launch over to the CR was a nice bonus too.

I agree that Roaring Forks should be replaced with a larger and lighter food court type place. I really don't know how the food is, it just wasn't a welcoming place to eat so we ate elsewhere.

All the resturants at the monorail resorts are quickly accessible by taking the launch to the CR. We ate at at least once at the GF, Poly, & CR. You can get a room at WL for less than half of rooms at the monorail resorts.

The rooms don't seem that big because they are dark, but if you get a room with the bunk beds it opens up some floor space. The geyser is cool and there are lots of nice public areas. There are lots of recreational activities to do on non-park days too.

I loved it and I can't wait to return as soon as our current quest to stay at all the moderates and deluxes is complete. :goodvibes

We had a lovely Christmas stay at the WL in concierge. The food at the concierge was the best we've ever had in concierge service--I believe it was brought up from the kitchens in Artist Pointe. I didn't try the restaurants there because we were either eating in the parks, or in the restaurants around the MK resorts. I guess I didn't notice feeling limited in the food choices but we usually eat around WDW anyway and of course, we always had the concierge breakfast and snacks every so often. The CMs were VERY friendly and sweet at the WL...basically a perfect stay. :cloud9:

I prefer GF (my favorite) because of monorail access and I just love the Victorian theme, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at WL again--it's just that there are so many great choices...BC, BWI, AKL, just to name a few of our other favorites

and if not then why? And where you would stay?

Stay and make your own opinions. WL is awesome!! Every one has thier own comments. Stay there!!!!

I would always choose AKL over WL. AKL is a lot newer, I think WL just looks kinda tired. The theme doesn't appeal to me at all and I don't like their transportation. AKL is great b/c it doesn't share busses w/any other resorts.

this is a very interesting thread....i never thought about how the people from places like Michigan (where i grew up) wouldn't like the WL because they don't want more of the same of what they have up north at home.....

i on the other hand, who live in a tropical country (hotter than Orlando if you can believe it) with a backyard full of palm trees, absolutely adore the WL....it feels like a visit back home for me...

interesting....

Thank you all so much for your input...... I really love hearing all the different views and opinions of the resort and I never even considered staying at AKL, but maybe I will look into it.

We of course would love to stay at OKW, Poly or GF... but they are so expensive.

Thanks again for all your responses..... and I would love to hear more opinions if anyone elses wants to share :earboy2: :earboy2:

We will be there for the first time in late Nov. We've only stayed at All Stars and CSR. I never really thought about wanting to stay there , but it just seemed like the perfect resort for Christmas time. :goodvibes

May 2001-All Star Sports
July 2003-CSR
Nov/Dec 2005-Wilderness Lodge :cheer2:

our view was ok (not worth paying extra to watch the fireworks through the trees),

This room would have been a "lodge" or "woods" view and nowhere in ANY Disney advertisement does it say you can see the castle or fireworks from your room. Many guests report this as an unexpected "perk," but it's not like staying a LV room at the Polynesian or a tower room at the CR.

Personally, I have had the most memorable, enjoyable vacations at the WL. The CM's are great, we love RF and WCC - it's a GREAT place! Our favorite, hands down!

We stayed for Christmas last year (as well as on another visit) and while the decorations were beautiful and Christmas Eve was wonderful, it still didn't make me want to stay there again. My biggest issues are the rooms seem crowded, the Roaring Forks is dirty and has no variety, the other restaurants were just okay. The pool is way to small for a resort that size, especially on a hot day in July which was our other stay there, and the transportaion is horrible. But the Holiday Decorations were beautiful and that is why I had changed my reservation from CR to WL last year, for the decorations. I don't think we'll go back though.

We live in Oregon and I was very reluctant to stay at the WL because it would feel just like we drove an hour to one of the lodges around here. But we LOVED the atmosphere! :goodvibes

IMO, you can never O.D. on NW atmosphere! Especially at Christmas time!

I'm glad that someone started this thread! :flower: We have been trying to decide if we should stay at WL or the Contemporary this coming Feb. :confused3
I like the idea of having the monorail transportation but from what I've heard, the Contemporary's rooms are kinda worn out. I love the way the WL is themed but I'm worried from all I've heard about the transportation. I'm still a little undecided too...

My Mom and Dad love the WL. It is very beautiful and an immersive atmosphere. It is one of those experiences that makes you really feel like you are somewhere else, not FL.

We have never stayed there because we prefer the monorail resorts. My DH is not fond of the theme. He gets enough woodsy locations when we stay in a cabin in the Smokies.
