My mom is a RN on a war veterans unit. Unfortunately her patients are cognitively impaired and/or have alzheimers.

My dad is a veteran as well.. For Vietnam era AND Gulf War.. He is still currently serving. (went in very very young in 1966)

Lucy I sent you a pm .. my brother was a desert storm Vet. I forgot to tell his favorite story. While serving in germany during the cold war he used to spend weeks on the border between west germany and east germany. It was eyeball to eyeball when they used to look at the east german and russian soldiers. it was very tense live ammo and everything. The got to know the enemy very well. Anyway, right before he was shipped out to Saudi Arabia for the gulf war, he wanted to see his dw and his son and i accompanied them to Germany. By this time the Berlin Wall fell. So we allowed to drive right into old east germany. So he pulled over at the huge border crossing where at one time a fortified east german guards there.. He saw a familair face , it was one the East German soldiers who he used to see through his binocluars.. they went up to each other and laughed at this strange moment.. only 6 months they were instucted to defend the border with their lives, they used to curse and give obsene gestures to each other. So he thought this was maybe not a funny thing but very ironic.
