Would a nightly resort fee effect DVC?

I have to say this....on my last Disney cruise in 2015. They were selling Poly.,,they made a reference to staying at poly without DVC. And mentioned a resort fee....they pushed that if you bought DVC. You would avoid the resort fee. And your quote fees are in your annual dues. I literally attended 3 sales pitches. Not going to lie I wanted the on board credit. (Which I got in the end). I don't know how I feel about a resort fee. If it's 20.00 for length of stay no big deal. If it's per night. My DVC days are going to be numbered

Interesting that they are mentioning a resort fee when there is none yet. I am beginning to believe more that the resort fee is already a done deal, at least for the hotels, and the surveys are just being done to help estimate the possible damage when it occurs.

They wouldn't, actually they couldn't. I'm sure DVC doesn't allow alterations to the contract.

Exactly - which is why anything the sales people tell a prospect cannot be counted on to be true. I wish more would call them on some of the statements they make or ask to see confirmation in the documentation. My brother did that when he was "stuck" in a lengthy in a non-DVC timeshare presentation. He said after that request, they somehow got him the promised gifts and out of there in record time.

Josh does have a point, I took a survey last year asking about putting those soaker pools at more DVC resorts. And a survey a few weeks ago about getting rid of Different brands of credit cards. Maybe those who work in the Survey department are just screwing with us. "Hey Joe, I bet if we do a survey about adding resort fees it will be the talk of the Internet!" "Yeah! Let's do it!"

The whole reason for putting it in a survey is to gauge reception BEFORE they do it. They are not screwing with people... they float a test balloon and if people are meh about it or even some people like it they go ahead and implement. Something that causes widespread enraged guests they might rethink before implementing.

Depends on who and why they were told to do the survey. Disney has reasons for everything and they don't always survey the customer, could be that the already decided to charge the fee and they are judging the backlash. Could be it's a blue sky item and they are just collecting data.

This is why I'm not worried about a resort fee. DVC would love to use this as a benefit for buying DVC.

If they did institute this $15 charge for DVC point stays that would pretty much seal the deal on us not doing WDW much anymore. We'd just use our points for HHI, VB and Aulani. Or DCL cruises. We are pretty much burned out with WDW anyway and with the high cost of tickets and food, we are drastically cutting back on our WDW stays as it is. Right now we only have one WDW trip planned for the next three years. If I have to start paying for things like ME, which we would never use, and having to pay $100 extra per week, we'll just use our points for something else. Thank goodness we love both HHI and VB.

If they(DVC/DVD) started to apply a Resort fee, then more than likely we would go less.

If this happens, it is simply a price increase being implemented to match all the others who use resort fees.. One starts it and the others follow so they can show advertised prices that are competitive. I hate it. Hotels should have to so pricing with all required fees and taxes included. Optional items should be listed separately, clearly and with their prices.

This won't happen to DVC because our contract has clearly defined reasons and limits for maintenance fee increases each year. We don't pay any other price to increase. They could start charging us for DME I suppose. Can't see anything else that can apply.

Disney hotels are already WAAAAAAY more expensive than offsite resorts. I cannot see a reason to add a new guest unfriendly fee just to make the resort appear $15 less crazy expensive when looking at search engine results.

First thing that raised a red flag that this might not be true is the fact it metions fp+. Why is it a red flag fp+ falls under a park cost not a resort cost unless they plan to make fp exclusive to those staying on property. I doubt they would make fp on site guest only. The next question raised is why did they make WiFi free to now add a charge for it

Resort fee is a bad idea, people already pay a premium to stay at WDW. Increasing the rack room rate would be the logical and more honest way to go. I think most people agree that a resort fee on top of the room rate is a stupid way to price things. Could you imagine a restaurant that charges an extra fee to all guests that goes directly to the restaurant?! These costs have to be rolled into the sale of the items, not tacked on at the end. We tip the server - not the restaurant. It's going to make so many people mad. I'm mad just thinking about it.

I don't necessarily agree. For someone looking to pay cash, a resort fee is going to look better and be better tolerated than a corresponding price increase. And adding it into prices will only affect the cash guests leaving out DVC guests. Good for DVC members but possibly bad for the system in general. In a sense it's like tipping in restaurants rather than just paying employees appropriately so what you argue against is already in place in one of your examples. Plus resort fees are pretty common for such vacation destinations so many are already used to them. The same could be said for parking charges. As I noted, I doubt it'll come about but I wouldn't be surprised and it would be EASY to justify and frame on Disney's part including charging DVC guests.

We all know that Disney will do what they want to do. That being the case... it would be nice if they changed their sales pitch.... The biggest thing i heard was buying now would hedge inflation costs in the future. That being said, they seem to be creating separate avenues to increase a pseudo inflation. ..if you understand what i'm trying to say :/

They threw the $95 booking fee, resale rule changes, waitlist rule changes, banking deadline rule changes, and reallocations of points at various resorts after many of us bought so to me that indicates that they can do pretty much what they want.

The first two are member benefits and the other three are items specifically stated as adjustable per the master declaration. There is no allowance for a "mandatory resort fee" anywhere in there. Just about every cost of operating the resort is clearly accounted for in the dues.

That's true and many timeshares that charge other fees like parking don't charge members but may charge non members including cash guests and exchangers though some do charge members as well. Still, DVC is unique enough in situation that I don't know that information helps us much. If they institute a resort fee, I could see them adding it for DVC members using their points even at their home resort but they'd likely need to back out some charges from the dues, basically those that would be duplicated. DVC already charges this to exchangers for items already covered elsewhere by dues.
