We did a 1bd in AKL last year and found it to be plenty of room with our 3 kids. The kids loved it and we never felt cramped at all. Looking at the pics of BLT 1bd they seem so much smaller. We are going to try for a 1bd for our Dec stay when our 7 month window opens up. Of course we will be more then thrilled to stay at AKL but figured we would give it a try since DS really wants to stay there once. But if it is really that much smaller then I am just going to stay at AKL.

TIA

We have only stayed in studio and 2 bedroom at BLT, but we were very surprised at how small the studio was at BLT vs the studio at AKL. We did a split stay, so had a very direct comparison. If the kids are small, I would say no problem.

We're staying in a 1 BR at BLT starting this thursday, our first trip home after purchasing DVC in March/April.

Me, DW, DD(18), DS(17) and DD(3). We toured the 1BR model of BLT at the Woodfield Mall sales center here in Illinois and thought it was more than big enough there. Not sure about the other DVC room sizes as we have never stayed at any of the other DVC resorts.

I'll let you know how it works out.

As my 3 year old says - 2 more sleeps until we see the castle.

The one bedroom felt fine, but the studio felt really cramped when we toured at BLT. We were told that the one bedroom is a little over 1100 square feet, which certainly seems like a good size. The studio is only a little over 300 square feet... TINY. That's about 100 square feet less than a standard room at the Contemporary. I have no idea what Disney was thinking when they designed those studios!

We had a 2 bedroom at BLT in January, and I think that the one bedroom portion would be fine for you if you were happy with a 1 bedroom in AKV. We had someone on the sleeper chair and someone on the sleeper sofa. It is tight to have both opened, but we all didn't feel it was a small living space.

Thanks. My kids are 10, 9, and 8. A 2 bedroom right now is too much especially since youngest DD is autistic and tends to wander especially at night. Can't get a dedicated anywhere and a LO is not an option with her. We had both the sofa and chair open at AKL and still had plenty of room to walk. My kids actually spent most of the time playing in the master bath with their toys, my kids are so silly. I just know from the pics it looks like there is no space from the sofa to the dining table or the kitchen island. It definatly looks bigger then the 2 rooms we had at Pop and we survived LOL

We stayed in a 1bdrm at BLT this past Christmas. THere were only 3 of us but I would have comfortable put 5 people in there.

Hi Vicki,

We stayed in a 1BR Lake View at the beginning of April with 5 people and thought it had plenty of room. Our kids are 14 & 9 and we also had our 12 yr. old niece. The Flat Screen TV, furniture and design of the rooms make the space feel large. My son is also autistic and tends to wander. We block the door at night with our Owners Lockers or an empty suitcase. If he moves those we will hear him. We stayed 1 night at a handicap studio at the Boardwalk before BLT and they had 2 slide locks for the doors and one was very high. This worked great for us and we didn't need to use the luggage. Wish all the rooms had this.

Last August the 5 of us stayed in a 1BR at BLT. Our children at the time were 12, 10 and almost 5. There was more than enough room for us - and I love the extra bathroom!

We've also stayed in 1BRs at AKV but it was in Jambo House and those are smaller than the 1BRs at Kidani (plus only 1 bathroom in JH).

I think a one bedroom would be fine. We keep planning to stay in a one bedroom and stay longer, but the timing hasn't worked out. So, we have been staying in a two bedroom for shorter stays. Now, that the kids are used to it I don't know how they would feel about the one bedroom. Mine are bit older though and enjoy the extra space a 2 bedroom provides, but at younger ages I wouldn't hesitate having them stay in the 1 bedroom.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I will try for a 1bd at BLT!!! If we did a 2bd we would have to cut the stay short so I would much rather stay in a 1bd especially since I think they are definatly roomie enough. Now when the kids are older we will have to splurge on a 2bd we bought points at SSR to try THV next year.

We definatly keep something in front of the door just to make sure we hear her. But I don't think I would hear her in a 2 bedroom so unless I can get a dedicated and not have the second door for me to baracade I will stick to a 1bd it will help with my nerves atleast.

Thanks again. Now to wait 2 more weeks to see if I can get into BLT. If not oh well no big deal we adore AKL!

Glad to hear that you like AKV so much. We bought in there but have yet to stay there. Last year we switched at 7 month mark to BLT and loved it! This year I just switched our ressie a few weeks ago and we are going to BCV. Hope to try all of the resorts over the years. Wish we could go more than once a year or stay longer - only going for 6 nights this year....

For those who have stayed in a BLT one bedroom...how much room does the sleeper chair have? We also have a family of 5 who will be staying at BLT in July and I'm debating whether to bring an air mattress for my 14 DS or have him sleep on the sleeper chair. (He's about 5'9")

Some number that DVC Mike has posted in the past...
AKV Jambo: 1BR: 629-720 sq.ft.
AKV Kidani: 1BR: 807 sq.ft.
BLT: 1BR: 803 sq.ft.

You mentioned that you stayed at AKL in a 1BR with 5, so BLT would be larger than the Jambo 1BR you stayed in previously.

We had 3 adults in a BLT 1BR in December and think a family of 5 would be very comfortable.

I've only stayed at Kidani but 4sq feet I could deal with LOL. Now I know a 1 bd at Jambo will be a no go though. Thanks so much for posting the numbers I knew I had seen them somewhere before but thought it was on the dvc site.

There is more than enough room for 5 in the BLT one BR. We are a family of 5, with two 11 yr olds and a 6 year old and we were extremely happy with the spaciousness of the villa. The let out sofas were very comfy and my 11 year olds are 5'4 so the let out chair can accommodate small adults nicely.

I think the 1 bd would be fine for 5. We had one adult on the sofa and a 17 yo girl on the sleeper chair. Try to get an even numbered room since they are slightly larger than the odd rooms.

I think the sleeper chair would be too small for a 14 year old. My DD9 slept there and it was perfect for her. I don't think a 14 year old would be comfortable and may not even fit.

We only spent one night in a 1bed at BLT, but it was huge. (to us anyway)

We had just moved over from a Value Studio at AKL and when we came over to BLT, the kids were screaming from all the space we had.

Unfortunately we had such an early flight out the next morning that we never got to really utilize the room.

YES!!! I felt the 1 bedrooms were huge!!!

We had a Standard view room on the 2nd floor overlooking the MK and I couldn't believe how big the room was. But we were in the front and the rooms may be bigger due to the curve of the building - but probably not by much. But it felt like a little apartment to us.

I just think the way the rooms are designed make them feel bigger as the kitchen cabinets and appliances and sink are along the wall. Also, having the flat screen tvs without the TV cabinets gives a bigger feel to the room. Also, at the BLT you don't have a balcony in the living room area so you have that much more space. The balcony is in front of the master.

And you will LOVE the 2 bathrooms!!!

The BLT is very NICE!!! We just loved it!!

Enjoy your trip!
