Worth it to use pts for Poly??

We're planning a trip in May and we used to stay as Poly as kids and my parents may want to stay there. But boy the rates have gone up since last time they stayed there DDad may have a heart attack!!

It seems crazy to use pts to stay there. Esp w/ the Fri/Sat rate at 74 for a garden view.

The regular room rate is $385. I'm not a math wiz but at $10/pt for renting pts that's like paying $740 for $385 room

Am I right? That it's crazy to use pts for the Poly??

If they do stay there maybe we'll do a couple nights out of pocket and then back to the WL!! DS really likes the tiki's so he'd like to stay there. I guess the weekday rate of 41pts would save me a little $ after taxes on $385 it's like $427ish.

If you want to use them at the Poly every once in a while go for it

I have not used points to stay anywhere other than DVC resorts except for the DL hotels. I have looked at it from two different ways. 1.If I rented out the points and used the money to pay for a room would it be a better deal than using the points or 2.did I really pay $10 a point for my points and if not what did it really cost me to trade out. Most of my points cost me $6 per year or a little more so I use that figure to determine what a room really costs. Adding in the $95 exchange charge adds to the amount and makes it even less desirable for me. I also have an AP so check to see if there are any discounts available for that at a resort if I want to save on weekend points for instance. In my case the bottom line is that for me nothing compares to my DVC rooms so other than the GC and DLH in California I have never felt the need to use points for any other WDW hotel. This is definitely a very personal decision and only the one using their points can decide if the trade is worth it.

I'd say go for it! We have used points to stay at AKL twice (before there was a DVC there) because we really like the hotel, did not want to spend the cash, and had the points to use. We don't rent, so that whole calculation does not enter into my decision-making process. We have never stayed at the Poly, but my kids would really like to, so I'm sure that we will use points to stay there some time (even with the new exchange fee).

It is a lot more "expensive" to use points to stay at the Poly, and there's a part of me that sort of cringes at it. But! We used our points to stay there this past May and it was absolutely wonderful! We could've rented out the points and paid cash (the only way we could've afforded it!), but that was more hassle than we wanted to deal with. Like an above poster said, they're your points! If it makes you happy, stay wherever you want!!

but if it keeps you from spending even more money....
