Worth it to fix a Casio Exilim?

I have a Casio Exilim 4.0 and a friend of mine dropped it on a concrete floor while trying to take a picture of himself. :guilty: The camera will not turn on and the zoom will not retract.

The camera is 2 years old but still worked great before this happened. Is there anywhere I can take or send the camera to get a price quote on how much to fix it? What should be my break even point? A new Exilim is only $249 so how much should I be willing to pay to get my old one fixed?

If the camera is unfixable is it worth selling as is on ebay for parts?

Thanks!

I have always used the "50% of replacement cost" guideline.

I would search completed EBAY auctions for the EXACT model(since there are dozens of exilims), and use that average selling amount(not the cost of a new camera) with the 50% guideline. So if the same model sells for around $150 on EBAY, I would not spend more than $75 on repairs.

IN all honesty, lots of us upgrade cameras/PCs/cars/wives when they are in perfect working condition. If I broke a 2 year old camera It would almost be an excuse to upgrade.

First of all, punch your friend in the face
second, buy a new camera (I always try to find excuses to buy new cameras) :rolleyes1

Thanks. There is nowhere remotely close to me that could even look at the camera and according to the Casio website it is at least a $49 charge plus shipping to look at the camera and fix it. I guess I will take my chances on ebay selling it as is.

And yes, the friend has been punched. Sad thing is that was the same day that he used my laptop to "check emails"... I ended up having to buy a new laptop too because not even the Geek Squad could get the viruses and trojans off the computer after he visited several questionable sites. :rolleyes1

Hmmm, sounds like you have to be reimbursed by GeekSquad because in the very worst case scenario they should be able to format your HDD and re-install the operating software from your recovery disc or whatnot that originally comes with your laptop.

PS: nice friend you have there.
PPS: it's nice to know somebody still remember Clarabelle Cow.
