What would you say is the worst verandah room on the Magic? What makes it bad?

I am trying to decide if it is worth saving $500 to go VGT or if I should just stick with the room I have. I am trying to look at the worst possible room and if I could live with it.

Thanks!

The verandahs mid-ship have plexiglass walls below the rail so you can see out to sea even when you're inside your room. The verandahs toward the back of the ship have solid walls. They're still do-able, but not as scenic, so they're in a cheaper category.

ALL the cat 5,6, and 7 are the same size with the same "stuff" other than that some have the ceiling bunk. This obviously excludes the handicapped cabins. There are people who would argue that the Navigator's verandah or the obstructed views are less desirable. I've stayed in one of the obstructed view rooms. Honestly, if I didn't know to look for the "obstruction," I might not have even noticed it.

The biggest issues with the VGT is that you can't pick a location on the ship and you accept the restrictions of the booking. If you are OK with those, enjoy your bargain.

This is subjective.....to some the solid white wall verandahs are the worst (aft on the ship) but I don't mind them. I would glady take a VGT and be happy in one of those...others would not.

Some like the Navigator verandahs, some do not.

Here is a pic so you can see what I mean:

The above is a solid wall verandah on the Magic....Cabin #6648.

Would you be ok with a Navigation Veranda? They are enclosed with a large round opening. If you would be ok with that they yes, do the VGT. I would do it in a minute to save $500!

Like MJ said, this can be very subjective because what one person enjoys, another may hate

Some people hate the obstructed verandahs and I love them! ;)

My personal opinion? Room 5146 and 5646 would be the two worst verandah rooms because of both the whitewall and the fact that they are smaller than other verandahs! All of deck 5 verandahs are smaller than other decks but those two are smaller because of the curve.

Having said that, we were in 5146 for our 2005 cruise and we were happy to have a verandah :goodvibes

I have a VGT on my upcoming Pixar California Coast cruise (20 days :cool1::cool1:). It will be my first verandah room with my kids and I'm kid of hoping for a Navigators, I think they would be kind of neat.

Thanks mmouse37 for those pictures! I have been looking everywhere to see what those solid wall verandahs look like!!
I'm on the Wonder in October and have one of those cabins! :)

I have also heard that the vibrations can be felt much more at the very back end of the ship (cat 6A), especially on Deck 5. I cannot speak from experience, but some of the Stateroom Reviews on wdwinfo are quite negative. While the larger verandahs are popular with some, the vibrations are unpopular with others.

I booked VGT for the Wonder leaving next Monday, and I ended up with 5150, which could possibly have the worst vibrations of all the verandah rooms - a real problem for me. If I had thought this through before booking VGT, I might have chosen to book a different cat instead to avoid this situation. Fortunately there appear to be upgrades available for our sailing (according to my TA from DU), and I will be doing my best to get one to a Cat 5!

We were in 5648 on the Magic a couple of years ago. From the looks of it, it should be a terrible cabin. It is almost all of the way aft, has a weird shaped veranda and is over the Animator's Palate, so it should be noisy. None of this proved to be true. We felt absolutely no vibration, the balcony was a little weird, but sufficient. The cabin was super quiet. Not many cabins in that area so no kids running up and down the hall. The last day, we met the couple next door (last cabin). They had a baby and were apologizing for their baby being so loud. They were afraid we were upset because the baby was not liking the change to his routine and cried for hours every night. We just looked at each other and laughed, because we did not even know they had a baby. We never heard a thing!

You might want to rethink changing that cabin. We were in 5648 (other side next door) and felt no vibrations at all. Plus, 5150 has a bigger veranda than most. It is a very quiet area (no thru traffic!)

Thnaks everyone! I just keep thinking is $500 worth the gamble? We were thinking of doing dolphins and hten decided it was too expensive for this trip but if we saved an additional $500 then we could do it.

Decisions, decisons!

We were in 5648 on the Wonder's recent PC cruise. The stateroom itself was fine albeit a long way away from the adult area topside. The verandah must be one of the smallest ones on the ship, made even smaller by the curving wall. However, it was better for seeing the night sky. The thumb's down for us was the noise & vibration at night disturbing our sleep. If the Wonder's speed was 20 knots or more, we knew it. She did 20+ knots on 10 of 14 nights.

I don't think there's such as thing as a "bad" balcony.

But.

I do think there is such as thing as a "bad" cabin. Only you can define what "bad" means. For me it is noise potential. So there are all kinds of staterooms I won't stay in (under or above bars, restaurants, pool deck, jogging track on non-DCL ships). I also get seasick by the aft ship movement, so I only stay midship. I don't care about high or low decks. So for me, I would never do a GTY room. But I fully realize I am OCD about cabin choice. There are a lot of people who are very "go with the flow" and don't notice noise or movement. Think which your family tends toward - are y'all "go with the flow" or are you "ugh I can hear music from the pirate party" people? If #1, do the GTY. If #2, the $500 you spend on the "perfect" cabin will be worth it.

We were in 5648 on the Wonder recently. It has one of the smallest verandahs on the ship. There's no view forward since it's on the curve and there's no view backward due to the security cameras. The verandah also has a drain that in our case took a week to be cleaned. The passageway was quiet as you've stated yet there was plenty of noise and vibration whenever the ship's speed was 20+ knots. I suppose that the ship's speed depends on your cruise. We did the Panama Canal and it was that way for 10 of 14 nights. We had trouble navigating the passageway from the aft lifts with a wheelchair as there are ridges in it for some unknown reason. Positives for me were that the verandah was dark so good for stargazing, that we could see the fireworks from our verandah, and the back stairs.

We went 6A GTY. 6A is all aft staterooms which are less desirable and GTY generally means that you're getting what failed to sell, i.e., also less desirable. After this experience, I would only choose a category with aft staterooms and/or GTY if that was the only way we could go on a dream cruise.

Not worst, but the best veranda room we've had on the Magic, 6608. This is an accessible stateroom on the very back of the ship. Hopefully, once my wife gets a new hip, we won't need the HA rooms any more.

Just replaced my hip last week, we are gonna try and not take my scooter on our next trip, it will seem so weird lol good luck on the surgery
