Okay, I've seen the thread for Best Restaurants, now how about Worst Restaurants. I would love to hear everyone's opinions!

I have heard HORROR stories about Tony's on Main Street in the MK, from bad food to bad service to "way too expensive for spaghetti!" We have been too scared to try it!

i have never eaten at 9 Dragons, but i've been afraid to try it ever since a friend who worked as a chef there told me they put loads of MSG in EVERYTHING :crazy2: i've also heard bad things about the food at Sci-Fi, but we're going to try it next trip anyway, cos i love bad b-horror/sci fi movies (the poster for one of my favorite films, Teenagers from Outer Space, is in the lobby of the restaurant!) and the milkshakes on the menu just sound soooo good....we're taking a chance!
i honestly can't say that there's any restaurant at WDW that i've tried and flat-out 100% despised, but the one i'm least fond of is Electric Umbrella. mainly becos the regular old "burgers n fries" is SO mediocre & unappealing in comparison to the CS you could get just a few minutes away at WS!

I know we are in the minority but we hated Cape May Buffet Breakfast. Goofy (who is my sons favorite) was totally indifferent to us. The food was terrible. It has been 5 years since our visit there and the boys were 5 and 7 but they still remember it and talk about how awful it was.

We went to Sci Fi in July for my hubby's birthday and LOVED it. He had a burger which he said was very good, and I had good ribs. The food was fine if overpriced -- what else is new in the parks? The kid meals were reasonable and the kids snarfed them. Great fries. We loved the cars, the movie clips, the whole thing. It is hard to describe how well they have done the whole set -- it's SO much fun.

It was my hubby's birthday and the waitress got wind of this. Made him stand up on the car seat and she yelled "This is Scott from Indiana and he is 41 today!" It was priceless, and he will never forgive me. Everyone in the place yelled "Happy Birthday!" Needless to say, my kids can't wait to go back. We'd probably go even if the food was dog chow.

News from Electric Umbrella! They now have a tropical chicken salad that is DELICIOUS. It has grilled chicken over greens plus shredded coconut and mandarin oranges in a sweet vinagrette. YUM!

Tony's and Mexico (San Angel Inn). Dreadful.

OTOH - I am allergic to MSG and have enjoyed Nine Dragons three times in the last six months without any problems.

I suspect for every comment, someone will have a rave about it :goodvibes

I have never had an experience at any WDW eatery that made me classify it as something I hated. We are generally pretty easy to please but I guess my least favorites (and again this is all relative) would be:

Hollywood and Vine at MGM: I think this was due to the fact that it was so hot that day I was just feeling sick and not hungry so nothing tasted good. The buffet was so messy, it looked like my beagle had gotten loose on it. The food just all tasted greasy and lukewarm. It was also very noisy in there. I mostly drank about 10 glasses of iced tea and thanked the Lord above it was cool in there!

California Grille: Wonderful food but I felt awful the whole time because my daughter was sad to be eating inside the Contemporary but not at Chef Mickey's. Total guilt trip that made me wonder why we were bothering to spend that kind of money when none of us wanted to go except my inlaws who picked the place! Someday, DH and I will go back just the two of us and have a whole different experience.

Crystal Palace. Great character interraction and the main courses were okay but then when we got dessert I bit into some kind of tart that was rancid and clearly gone bad. I told the waiter, they removed the whole tray but then the cm's began to smell them and laugh about how gross they smelled. The kept calling more cm's over to get a whiff. I wonder how many people ate those and got sick. Really nasty, kind of ruined the whole thing!

Wow, I have to agree with a few fellow posters I don't think I ever had bad service or horrible food.

I am quite picky. The only place that I wish had more options was The Plaza restaurant. Great desserts but we ate there one night for dinner ( no other choice available) it was good, but wish we had more to choose from off the menu.

A great spot for Wishes!! :hippie:

I wouldn't call Tony's a horror show but we did not have a good experience there. Had a PS for 5pm, when it opens. Waited about 15 min. to be seated (I understood that, trying to gradually seat folks at opening so as not to over load the kitchen). What I didn't understand was being taken to the table right next to the kitchen door when the rest. was half full! :sad2: We got moved to a slightly better table. Our waiter was nice and attentive at first, recommended the NY steak as the best thing on the menu. DH had spaghetti and meat balls, kids had pizza. Once the food arrived our waiter disappeared, for good. Steak was well done not med. and almost inedible, kids said the pizza tasted "yucky" and DH said it was the worst spaghetti he'd had. The waiter finally reappeared with our check, never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert! We won't go back.

Also wasn't thrilled with Chef Mickey's, probably because we again had a terrible table location and missed out on a lot of the character interaction and ambiance of the place.

But in three trips those are our only bad experiences dining. For the most part all others have been pretty nice! :sunny:

You will get lots of different opinions on the boards, sometimes someones favorite is someones least favorite etc. I have done a few reviews on bad service, bad food etc. I must say that if we generally have a bad experience be it service or food we generally dont go back to that restraunt at our 3 ds insistence. So far they have asked us not to return to whispering canyon and now biergarten, I did a little review of that from our december trip.

Good experience here at tony's. Sitting on the porch during Spectro certainly helped and they didn't rush us and made sure the steps were clear of people. We had the spaghetti which is WAY WAY overpriced but here's a tip...order ONE spaghetti dish and SPLIT it. they don't mind this at all and it's still too much to eat! We both ordered salads AND desserts and the bill (and their tip) is still quite a bit but why pay $16 for a plate of pasta that cost them :stir: $1-2 to make!

Our worst experience this past trip was Norway Storybook Breakfast.
The food was not very good at all, no pancakes or Mickey waffles here.
I know we were there to also see the princesses, but $100 for a family of 4, just to spend 2 minutes with 4 princesses...is just too much IMO. AND, my kids were hungry an hour later because the food was so bad.

San Angel Inn for us! The authentic food did not work for us, although the atmosphere is great!

The only place I did not care for was Capt Jacks at DTD. And After staying at POFQ & the All stars-love their food courts- I found Capt Cooks at Poly to be lacking.

We avoid the buffets. The times we've eaten at them, the food wasn't bad. Just too many sticky, dirty fingered kids that touch the food and put it back. Even saw one boy bite something, didn't like it, and put it back. Too many unsupervised kids. I also don't like to use the serving utensils that 6,000 other people have touched and then eat (who knows when they've washed their hands last.)

Bad experiences vs. bad food are two different things...We have had bad experiences at some of our favorite resturants, and good experiences at some of our "worst" resturants.

I would have to say, in my opinion, over all the worst food (and some of the most overpriced) is Tony's in the MK. We will NEVER eat there again. DH & I tried it a couple of times, and each time the food got worse & worse. Severs there have always been horrible. I did however, have one server that was great. We were chatting with her about how I was Italian & from NY. She APOLOGIZED in advance for "how bad the food was going to be". That tells you a lot about the food there.

It is a shame...Some of my favorite childhood memories at WDW are having breakfast there. I sure wish they would bring back breakfast at Tony's.

Our other "worst" resturant was Norway. We had dinner there (the storybook one) twice. Each time the food was BAD. My chicken was still RAW in the middle. DH said he knew his stew was just canned stew (he was a poor college student & has nightmares of living on canned stew for 4 years in his youth). Everyone else at our table had similar experiences with their food. Our server was slow, indifferent & rude. The princess spent less then 15 seconds at our table. Granted we had a table of 3 boys (2, 4 & 6). But the 2 older boys had major crushes on some of them (my DS who was 2, could have cared less, but still!). They saw boys & just breezed on by like "Oh it is just boys, who cares".

Despite all that, we tried it a second time & it was WORSE! UGH! NEVER again!

Family and I have eaten there many times. I have a very low intolerance to MSG and have never had a problem. Limited menu, but tasty. I would give it a try. :thumbsup2

Have to agree with this one. There was a rancid smell of stale popcorn being microwaved next to us and it filled the room. Happened on several occasions.

I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I've tried O'Hana's twice and didn't care for it at all. Loved the appetizers, the meal was disappointing. I would much prefer going to Kona's.

As far as food goes I didn't think all that much of The Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner. It was okay, but nothing great. The Hoop Dee Doo review food falls in under that description too..but both are sort of redeemed by the entertainment value! So we had a great time, just not great food.

Mostly any complaints I have are to do with service. I think you can get bad service anywhere. I always find the server's are stretched a little thin at the buffet's. They have too many tables to take care of. Which can get annoying when it comes time for the check, because you suddenly can't find them anywhere! We had horrible service at The Flying Fish. The food was wonderful, service awful, probably almost the worse I have ever had. Service wasn't so great at Jiko either, she just lost interest in us for some reason! Perhaps she had too many tables, but she was really hard to track down.

We went to 9 Dragons recently, it was the only place we could get an ADR that day. We went in expecting the worse (the reviews aren't good are they?) but we were nicely surprised.

Just a note: On the few buffets we ate at... Cape May and Boma's... we saw them rotate out serving utensils several times.

I agree on the unsupervised kids though. We NEVER eat buffets at home (maybe CiCi's once a year) but my children have be told every time we go to a buffet at Disney what is expected of them. I had to correct my own child a couple of times as I saw her munching on items as she walked back to her seat. :)
