Worst Mistake You Ever Made

I am posting on a friend's behalf. They are too embarrassed to post under their board name.

She feels as if it is all her fault that her family had TWO learning experiences over the same one topic.

The first time they packed the luggage into the car and part way to the airport the car broke down. They lost their airfare (Non refundble) and a significant part of their Disney prepaid money.

The second time they left all kinds of bags in the baby stroller purse (not money or credit cards) diaper bags with usual contents dextra closthes to put on after wert rides ...

Stroller and all contents GONE :earseek:

She booked through the Disney Reservation place and both times they included insurance for her and both times she demanded they remove it. ( She now admits she didn't understand the value) NOW she understands that it would have covered her loss on both trips for a paltry amount compared to what they paid in losses the other two times.

She said next time the kids will get sick or break an arm or leg or something. She's taking no more chances!

Her lesson: GET THE INSURANCE !!

Our biggest mistake was going in 97 with my sister and her family. She is the type that has to out do you in everything, and had us running from attraction to show to bus in order to get the most out of 7 days.

Hoping not to repeat we are going again-7 years later and at the first sign of competition we are splitting ways!

My biggest mistake was thinking that I would never get to go back again and making everyone with us miserable. Okay...I didn't make them totally miserable but I was such a commando because I was afraid I'd never get to return. That was in 1999. Since then I have went once in 2000, twice in 2001, once in 2002 and once when I was almost 8 months pregnant in 2003. I still have commando tendencies...but this last trip really helped with that since I was waddling so much :D Oh....and not doing a waterpark until this last trip....we had a blast at both BB and TL!

My mistake was trying to please my sister, mother, nephew and nieces on our December trip. :( I forgot to have fun and wanted to leave Disney the first day there. It wasn't that bad but I couldn't handle my sister and nephew. I love them but I don't want to go with them to Disney again.

Another mistake, which I learned but my mom has yet to learn is to use travel agents. I know they costs more but my mom still uses them.

Her lesson: GET THE INSURANCE !!

Since I always plan my trips WAY, WAY in advance and I can't have any idea what might happen at the time of the trip, I buy the insurance just for peace of mind.

Spending too much time looking at the attractions and not enough time looking at my kids looking at the attractions. I can always see Buzz Lightyear or Winnie the Pooh again, but I will never have another chance to see my 6-year-old's face the first time HE sees Buzz Lightyear or Winnie the Pooh. Be sure to tear your eyes away from the sights and watch your kids' faces once in a while. And take lots of pictures and videos of their faces. I guarantee those will be your favorite pictures and video clips in years to come.(sniff)

Taking my SIL and her 2 kids. They complained the whole time (it's too hot, we want to go to Universal when we had already paid for their entire hotel stay - 4nights, all meals and WDW 4 Day Parkhoppers) They told us that they didn't enjoy WDW that DLR is better and never thanked us for anything. And my MIL had the audacity to later call my dh selfish. To say that I was irritated was an understatement. Never again...

Also even though I love my sister we took her and her boyfriend and she thanked us the whole time so it didn't feel as bad that we paid for every meal except for one when they treated, it actually worked out because we didnt have to pay extra for a room for them (except for 2 nights at a USF) because we put them up in our timeshare lock off unit. They paid for their airfare and Park hoppers. I paid for just my sister's admission (powerpass) to Universal. We all had a great time. Would do it again when my sister is working. LOL. I was just happy to spend time with her but I always worry about money because I am in school right now and hate to take money from my dh.

Not saving money for my first Disney trip last year and putting the entire thing on my charge card. Had a good time but I'm still paying for it. I learned my lesson; this year I'm saving up for it and not charging at all.

#1 Going to DisneyWorld with the entire family...17 people! Aunts Unclues and cousins. YIKES. By the end of the trip my cousins were practically fistfighting in the queue.

#2 Same awful trip, we stayed offsite at the Embassy Suites. Nice enough place but what an ordeal getting to or from the parks, trying to find the right shuttle when leaving the park, and God help you if you missed the last shuttle!

#3 Wearing shoes with a heal to be "fashionable". After walking 15 miles a day my blisters had blisters!

#4 Going in July. :sunny: It was HOT!

I remember one year I wore open toed , albeit flat sandals , because I thought it would be less hot. OUCH. I'll take the heat any day over the blisters...

worst mistake?...telling my future-MIL we were thinking about going to Orlando and giving her a vague period of when we were thinking of going ("we're thinking of going in the middle of Sept"). Although we emphasized that we weren't sure which week, she went ahead a booked us her timeshare before we even got a chance to research anything at all.

Now, we have to use the timeshare because we're Chinese and we have to "give face" to my future MIL. We couldn't change the timeshare date without a penalty fee. And the worst, I didn't find disboards or mousesavers until AFTER the booking. Sigh.

Probably not doing a enough research before we booked our trip. BUt somethign turned out great...hours are open later.

I'm also guilty of thinking i'd never come back so i just once in my life wanted to try one of the nicer hotels and having not traveled much we paid rack rate :scared1: at the Poly for 2 nights. Need less to say i'm much wiser now and boy was my DH thankful because on our first disney Xmas trip in '02 we spent 5 nights at the AKL in a savanah room for less then the Poly stay in '99 thanks to finding out about the codes. One drawback my trip have increased in size though.

OK, I'm embarrased, but here it goes . . . way back in 1987, my "soon to be husband" suggested that we go to WDW for our honeymoon (at that point in time I had never been to WDW). My response?? There is no way I'm going to WDW for our honeymoon, I want to go to an island! Well, being the nice man that he was/is, he complied and we went to the Bahamas. Although we had fun, I now know that we would have had a MUCH BETTER TIME in Disney! :headache: :faint: :crazy2:

I still get teased about it to this day, now that I am such a DisneyFREAK!!! I was telling my coworkers this story just the other day, and they were like, "there is no way YOU turned down a trip to WDW, come on, get out of here!" I had no choice but to admit that it is SAD but TRUE . . . I'm so ashamed and such an idiot! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!? :scratchin

My four girls also find it impossible to believe!!

LESSON LEARNED: NEVER! EVER! Turn down a trip to WDW!! :teeth: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Going with a family who didn't care to do any advance planning
and spent enormous time in line to get autographs and getting
drunk at night only to be slow starters in the morning.
We paid big money to go to the parks and see them, not to
stand in autograph lines. After day 2, we split up and met for
dinners. I will never travel with others to Disney again unless
they are experienced Disney people and have a plan. I don't
care if it's not my plan, just any plan.
