Worst hotel you've stayed at?

I'm just curious about other peoples worst hotel experiences. For me.. I'm going to have to say Del Sol. Our family went with a group of people for a last minute trip to Disneyland last year. They picked out the Del Sol purely based on price. It's was kind of amazing...but once you get there you quickly realized why the price was as it was. The lobby..first part of the hotel we saw.. pretty ok. Then we drove back and noticed that the parking spots were WAY too small for our SUV. It took a few ins and outs to get everything situated. When we got to the room ..it didn't seem too bad. But as we settled in it was obvious that the room wasn't even worth the small amout it cost per night.

The floors were stained .. the beds were lumpy... the bathroom was TINY and had some air vent on the ceiling that showed a little bit of the Anaheim sky  ! During our stay there .. two of us got locked in the bathroom... the door just jammed stuck. We found stains on the towels...and the shower head.. was basically made for anyone 5 feet and under. If you were 5'1 and up.. forget about it. I am 5'7 and was constantly ducking! Also the water temperature was sooo unpredictable. You'd go from hot to cold ..to BURNING! oh man!

Then...our neighbors were the worst . Every night at around 2 am the banging would start. On the 2nd night they were pounding against the door that connects between the two rooms...:scared1: We went and told the lobby about them the next morning but they had already checked out...weird.

Overall most of the hotels I have stayed at in the Disneyland area have been fine. This one... as you can tell is a very different story!

What are some of your worst experiences?

Outside of the Disneyland area.. the worst was while passing through napa.. we stayed over night at a hotel off the highway .. The Chateau. It was straight out of the 70s and disgusting.

Worst hotel ever? A place in Vegas that I don't even remember the name of. It was before Tripadvisor  and everything that comes to mind when one hears the phrase "No-Tell Motel" :rotfl: . The bed was like the cots I slept on in Girl Scouts camp (rock hard & made horror movies noises when sat down on) and had a blanket and topsheet but NO FITTED/MATTRESS COVER SHEET. It smelled like someone had smoked 2 packs a day for the past 60 years without ever opening the window. The toilet had NO HANDLE...you were supposed to reach into the tank to flush it, according to the desk clerk :scared1:. Since my dad, sister & I checked in at around 1 in the morning after a long, hot drive from CA we just sort of crashed for a few hours and found another hotel later that morning. (The room was picked out & paid for by my dad's work because he was attending a convention.)

Worst hotel near Disneyland? That'd be a place that is already much talked about here on the Disboards. Lest I sound like a professional trash talker, I'll refrain from naming names. I'll just say that it used to be a nice place to stay...in the mid 1990s.

Hahahaha :rotfl2: I am originally from Napa and I know EXACTLY where that is, and your right, bad hotel! too funny...

Anaheim Plaza "Hotel"--yuck. Would have checked out but all other Harbor motels were booked solid. Grime, mold, dust everywhere. Dirty sheets. Stained towels. Trash under the beds. 30 minute check in with no one in line.
We did stay at the parks til closing both nights though because we didn't want to go back to the motel. Guess that's a perk?

I second the Anaheim Plaza hotel. We only stayed there one night and chose it because it was dog friendly and close. The room was musty and smelled. The carpet was filthy, we wore socks all the time to protect our feet and they were black! You can not change the temperate in your room - the whole building is controlled as one and it was so hot in our room (we were there in April). I called the front desk and they said they had the heat on in the whole building. When I requested that it be turned off, they just told me to open the sliding door! Thread bare towels and cheap sheets and lumpy mattresses!

We stayed at the America's Best, Anaheim Inn on Ball Street.......nightmare!!! We weren't in our room, with our then 1 1/2 yr old twins, more than 10 minutes.....when we looked at the girls feet & knees & they were completely black from crawling around on the carpets!!!! :scared1: It was nasty!! There was a burned out outlet....makes you feel safe plugging something in......not! There was built up "gook" all around the bathroom. You could see daylight all the way around the front door. Didn't feel secure, the mgmt was horrendous...they blame the dirty carpets on Disneyland's fireworks.......I argued that we've stayed at motels closer & NEVER had that problem! Maybe they should actually clean the rooms.....ick!!! The pool & hot tub had visable slime on the walls, making the water murky. The FREE breakfast, consisted of a pot of coffee & a box of donuts. The breakfast was supposed to be available from 6:30am till ?, but it was very rare to see someone in the office prior to 7:30am.....so you couldn't get in the office to get breakfast.

I would gladly sleep in my car over going anywhere near that place again.

There are two motels in the DL area that my family will never ever stay at again!

Anaheim Plaza and Desert Inn.

Both were dirty (like our feet were black dirty from the floor), customer service was horrible, the room was just not very clean, the pool at Desert Inn is horrible (its indoors and the chlorine smell is just awful).

I don't care how inexpensive something is, it should still be clean!!!

For us it was the Best Western Park Place Inn. I know that some people like it here, but it just was an overall bad experiece for us. It may have been our room, though. We stayed on the first floor facing our car (parking area) in a King room with a pull out sofa. The room was dirty and looked depressing. It was dark and dingy. It was very noisy as well--you could hear people running in the halls and up and down the stairs at all hours. A baby cried all night in the room next door, and the walls were paper thin. A drunk couple spent part of the night fighting in the parking area near our room. We didn't feel safe there at all. The beds were hard and uncomfortable--especially the pull out sofa where my daughter had to sleep. She cried in the morning because she was so uncomfortable and the noises in the motel kept her awake all night. The pool area is dinky and depressing as well, and I certainly would never go into it!

We stayed at Howard Johnsons and found it to be much cleaner, more comfortable (the beds are great), and although nothing fancy--just more family friendly.

I would rather save on soveniours and other things, and spend a bit more to get a better hotel experience.

I have heard dreadful things about the Plaza (from a friend who stayed there), so I would avoid that one at all costs!

How odd, I have never had a bad stay at BWPPI and I stay there almost everytime. I wonder if it was just a fluke, because they're my go-to hotel. Although, I do have to agree, peopl going by your room can get loud. One of the rooms we stayed in had kids running and screaming past it all the time. I have found that the rooms in the back half of the hotel are quieter though.

We stayed at the Anaheim Plaza and it was fine....the only issue we had was the water temp fluctuated a lot, going from icy to super hot in seconds....showering was not pleasant but it wouldn't stop me from spending a quickie weekend there again. We were there for 3 nights in October 09.
The worst hotel EVER was not in the DL area, it was in Winnemucca NV, my DD23 lives in Payette ID (my Mom and sisters live in Fruitland ID) and Winnemucca is the "halfway" point for us so we used to meet there for DD23 to pick up her younger sisters so they could visit in the summer. We stayed at this hotel that was HORRIBLE!!!!!! My Mom and DD23's room was quite nice, but DBF, myself and DD11 & 14 were stuck in a room with black mold in the shower, fans grates falling off the wall/ceiling, doors that didn't fit the frame and showed a lot of light when someone pulled into the lot (think a spotlight going thru your room), carpets that were dirty and turned our feet black (we didn't even let DGD on the floor at all!), sheets that were dirty, dirty walls...it was so nasty, we were only there 1 night so we dealt with it (and the city was hosting a softball tournament so NO rooms were available elsewhere) but had the other room been as nasty we would have left...it was so gross! We will NEVER stay there again, on subsequent visits we've paid extra and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express!
In the DLR area there was a hotel that was pretty bad, service and room wise but no where near as bad as the place in Winnemucca.....spacemermaid referred to the same place in her post. :) The employees were horrible, we reserved a room with enough space for 4 kids and 2 adults, we had 4 towels, the room was dirty, floor was sticky in places, the staff at the front desk yelled at one of my DD's....we did complain to mgmnt via email (there was never anyone available at the hotel during the day) and received NO response at all....we will never stay there again...and I was bummed because it looked like a castle I thought it would be neat.....NOPE....lol

We stayed at the Quality Inn and Suites in Anaheim a few years ago. The room was ok but it smelled really fusty so we had to buy an air freshener! If we'd been staying longer than 1 night I wouldn't have stayed. HOJO this time.

Yes, it may have been partially due to our location. We were put near the front of the motel (by Harbor).

Our room was also just very threadbare (a couch that looked very dirty--it had recent stains) and wasn't cleaned well. The bathroom had old hair and a used soap in it from the previous tenant. When we checked in I could tell my girls were trying very hard to just say something nice about it, but we all were silently looking around going "yikes!". My 10 year old finally said "it isn't exactly sprinkled with pixie dust!" and then we all laughed that nervous kind of laughter that can only be used in these kind of situations! When I reviewed it on tripadvisor I even entitled my review with that quote, and now we bring out the quote when the appropriate occasion comes up.

But I am the first to admit that I love staying at one of the Disneyland Hotels. For us it is part of the experience and worth the extra expense for the time and effort it takes us to journey to Disneyland. I suspect we would love the VGC as well! We may try to rent some DVC points for next summer.

Had to make a quick trip about 18 months ago and the place we could find was a cave like structure(could not get into the Marco polo, since it booked, in the town of Herat. Here is a description:
Jaam Hotel, in the old city west of Darb Khosh,Afghanistan. Has 30 very basic double rooms, all sharing 2 squat toilets and 2 showers. Management speaks some English and is very friendly, and there is a restaurant on site. 300 Afg / $6.

Really not much better than a cave in the mountains and olny $6 a night.

No way! Omg yes it was pretty nasty. Last time we were up in that area was probably in ...October? They seemed to be doing a LOT of construction on the Chateau. I wonder if they are doing everything possible to make it .. safe for your health! It was just ..disgusting. So glad it was just a stay over one night kind of thing because that was even too much!

The Desert Inn...I completely forgot about that one. We haven't stayed there in quite a few years. The last time we did they were doing a lot of renovation... Our room smelled like paint. It was terrible. We cracked cracked the front window for a bit but then as we are all familiar with ...loud noisy guests.. so when it was bed time closed it and turned on this little wall fan. It was kind of a joke. And yes the pool. That was REALLY gross looking . Just the room it was inside looked grimy. The glass windows seemed dirty and the pool did NOT look swimmer friendly.
