Worst Ending to a Disney Trip EVER! (and other things that happened) - UPDATE 6/22!

Thanks for sharing your birth story. I'm glad things are going better now! That first year is SO hard, but goes by so quickly. Sometimes I really miss having a baby! (My youngest is 3.)

I've always wanted to eat at Sanaa, but so far it just hasn't fit into our plans. What a cool experience with the Animal Specialist. I'm glad that it was so informative. Can't wait to hear more!

My sister and I were just commenting on how some of the nurses were awful during our hospital stays. I researched delayed cord clamping and there really is no risk unless they need other immediate care. But it sounds like they were taking care of it. And I don't think that delayed cord clamping is a complication. And I think that if your son's life was in acute immediate danger, they would have ignored your request and gotten him emergency assistance. Ugh. People.

I agree with the awful nurses statement. I wish I couldn't but I can. When Will was breathing really fast, before they took him to the NICU, my doctor asked them if I could have him to see if skin-to-skin would regulate his breathing - uh, because it can do that - and they absolute refused. They made him stay in the NICU the whole time I was at the hospital. The NICU doctor even said he didn't know why he was there! I appreciate them trying to take care of my baby...but honestly, they seem like they were a tad over zealous and it really caused a lot of unneeded inconvenience. I barely slept any because I went to feed him every 3 hours, day or night, and I also had to pump and eat. It was awful. I was so glad to go home.

When I got up and went to the balcony, there weren't any animals on the savannah.

I also wondered if maybe there was a mix-up and she got roped in to do this at the last minute.

They went out to get the breads and dipping sauces - including DF/GF bread for mom and I!

Jessica also told us a couple of funny stories about the giraffes at AKL. One of the giraffes was "fired" from KS because he kept sticking his head into the ride vehicles! Like, "What kind of strange giraffes are those over there? I gotta see this." The guests LOVED it but the CMs were not so happy about it. I wish I would have been in one of those vehicles. That would have been too awesome.

I wish I had been too! So cool!

Another giraffe on the savannahs at AKL ignores the little pokey zappers to just eat what he wants. The zappers that are all around in front of the guest rooms and the overlooks. He apparently loves to eat and just doesn't care. They have to watch him closely because he will take stuff off of people's balconies!

That's hilarious!

As for the food for the humans at Sanaa, for me it was just okay but my mom and dad really liked it.

My Dh loves it. So far, other than the Naan bread appetizer, I haven't found what I like. My DH loves the lamb!

Yeeaaahhh. I hate seafood. That would be why the chicken tasted so bad!

HAHA.

I guess I can definitely say that my seafood aversion isn't because I know that it's from the sea!

I can relate to this. I don't really like cinnamon. I have become more tolerate over the years but it depends on the food. In any case, I can taste cinnamon a mile away. People will tell me they don't taste it at all and we will consult the ingredient list and it will be there. Far down the list, but there! Its almost the same with brown sugar...but they are very similar to me.

The Animal Specialist introduced herself as Jessica. And then she had us go around the table and tell her what we were wanting out of this experience. It seems to be a pretty standard question for Disney tours.

I remember having to go around and say our favorite animals. Everyone else said an animal on the savannah...I said foxes

Jessica was great!! She had no reason to be worried. She was personable and funny and really engaged. She didn't eat and said that she would have the restaurant box up her meal so she could eat it later. That felt a bit awkward - eating while she had an empty plate. I understand why - she wanted to give us her full attention and she was talking a lot. It was totally against the way I was brought up to eat at the table, though.

Our person asked for the meal to be boxed up too. I almost wonder if that's like part of the script for the event in a way. Like the person always asks to have the food boxed up.

And she was right! They are adorable!!!

Ours came with 3 salads, but we didn't really like them

So I thought maybe we had the same CM doing our lunch since I think ours was also named Jess and we went only like 2 months later, but it's not!

Spoiler: birth story-skippable

Quick recap on birth stories: 1st-needed a pitocin drip as water broke, labor wouldn't start, never did get an epidural (got demerol and zofran as the contractins with pitocin made me throw up) 2nd kid-finished up work day in labor (I worked at the hospital), went home, waited til contractions got to 5 minutes apart (also waiting on longest pizza delivery EVER for MiL and kid)-by time we got back to hospital I would have killed for an epidural-learned from my young and stupid mistake the 1st time of no epi), nope-baby there before the anesthesiologist. She was born 2 hours after I got back to hospital. 3rd one-miserable entire pregnancy (felt fab with first 2), went into labor sunday afternoon, cleaned house, waited for MiL to arrive, then watched ending of cliff hangar on Grey's Anatomy-got to hospital and had to wait for room-contractions bad at this point and 1st time I had back labor. Did get the epidural this time (sweet relief-and nothing like your experience) but baby went into distress-by the end I had full oxygen mask, internal monitor and NICU resuscitation team in room. He was fine but to go from labor nurse to 20 people was bit scary. We also didn't find out sex of baby with this one so it was a few minutes before we even found out we had a boy!

I don't know how I stumbled on your trip report, but I've been enjoying it! We want to go to WDW in a few years (just me and my husband) and I need to read more reports so I'm more informed! The last time I went I was 15 with a school event, and everything was planned for us. But reading your birth story was like deja vu in some ways. My first birth (of 5!) went a lot like yours, and was the most traumatic of them all. It can get better, I promise! And actually, numbers 3 and 5 (4 was a c-section) were very normal, even drug-free births, and were hard, but much more peaceful and non-traumatic compared to that first one! (In case you ever get/have to do it again.) Your little guy is adorable, though! My baby is almost 2, and I'm not very sad to be leaving the baby days behind. The lack of sleep all by itself is rough, without throwing in all the first-baby worries and the extra trouble you had post partum!

Your trip report showed up in the you might also like boxes. Amd I was reading along waiting for the worst end, and then realized belatedly it was from 2016. Then it never finished, and you were pregnant, and it was time for the kid to go to college, amd I was really worried something horrible had happened. Glad to see you back, safe.

Mine are ages 30and 22. Horrible pregnancies with extreme nausea all the way through delivery and 2 bizarre births. I will write them out! Love your writing style.

I was in one of those vehicles - not at KS, but at AKL shortly after that Giraffe - his name is Gordon - was transferred from KS @ AK to AKL. At the time he was on Uzima savanna and he came right up to our Wanyama safari truck and licked & nibbled on the roof and stuck his head in to check us out. We were actually stuck there a bit as Gordon wanted to follow us out of the savanna It really was amazing, although a bit nerve racking for the husbandry guy on the truck because if Gordon had been startled and swung his head some one could have been hurt. My avatar is a screen shot from the video my son took during the experience, btw. I’ve also had the Ostrich on Sunset savanna stick it’s head into the truck on another Wanyama safari.

Thank you for sharing your birth story as anyone who has given birth knows the pain and fears that one goes through during the labor and birthing process! I really enjoyed reading about your Animal Specialist lunch at AKL!!! The story of the giraffe on the KS was so incredible and I certainly would have loved to have experienced the giraffe sticking his head in the ride vehicle! I totally understand why the CM's weren't very happy with his behavior though. Sounds like the lunch had some interesting stories that were shared. Yes, I can understand why you thought you "chicken" curry soup tasted "off"! Hope you come back to finish up your TR as we really enjoy your writing style!!! BTW, your son is such a cutie.
