Inspired by the "best of eats" thread, what places should you avoid totally?? :confused3 I know not many like Mel's Diner...but, where are some of the "don't care to eat there ever again/bad food/bad service" places??

I like Mel's Diner! I think Circus Mcgurkus should be avoided because it is plain cafeteria food. The food there is overpriced and has no taste.

The International Food and Film Festival at Universal. Bleck! Cafeteria food.

I'm one of those who would never eat at Mel's again.

i don't like mel's either. i tried intl food bazaar place at universal and had the sweet & sour chicken. it wasn't bad. just mass produced chinese but it did the trick. my nephew had a pizza which he said was just okay and fries that were like cold sponges. not sure i would try them again.

Monster Cafe - absolutely!!! We are a family that will eat about anything. We love going to 5***** restaurants, but also find the cafeteria style food in the park palatable. What the heck - it is amusement park food. But with Monster Cafe, we walked in - the smell hit us first. It was terrible. We got in line, looked at the food and for the very first time, decided that something was just beyond edible. We left the line (a first for us) and headed over to Luigi's. We were much happier there. Just our opinion. And we have eaten at Mel's. Not our absolute favorite, but not absolutely horrible.

have to agree.........went to monsters during hhn last october and the food choices were typical but what i ordered tasted like it was mass produced.

did not care for it at all.

this is the only place i have been disgusted with at universal or ioa

I haven't eaten at any restaurants at Universal that I personally thought could hold a candle to the food courts at the value resorts on Disney property. My family and I stayed a week at RPR in June 2004. We were not the least impressed with the offerings at any of the restaurants. Well, we were impressed with the surroundings and the entertainment at the parks, that was outstanding. The best meal the entire week was the Cat in the Hat breakfast! I guess i will always love the Universal parks but not the restaurants. When I go back I will give a Mythos a shot, and then over to the Portofino, I have heard great things about them.

Wow, you had some bad luck. Here are a few to try out next time that are almost can't miss:

Trattoria del Porto (Portofino)
Mama Della's (Portofino)
Sal's Market Deli (Portofino)
Splendido Pizzeria (Portofino)
Islands Dinning Room (RPR)
Jake's American Bar (RPR)
Finnegan's (US)
Lombard's (US)
Confisco Grille (IOA)
Thunder Falls Terrace (IOA)

These are great restaurants (though Thunder Falls is cafeteria style). I would say they compare to the better Disney restaurants. The great thing about Disney is that there are many more choices.

I agree with Monster's Cafe. We were there in October and I couldn't wait to try it. It sounded so cool. We walked in...the smell was horrible. We took one look at the food..which looked like it had been sitting out all day and went somewhere else.

We had cheesecake at Finnegan's across from Mummy and it was so bad we haven't been able to have it since then and that was 6 months ago.

Another vote for the International Food and Film place at the Studios. They made fried rice inedible. How the heck do you screw up fried rice? Oh, and the eggrolls were pretty nasty as well.

Haven't seen a lot of duplicates....but, all of this is very helpful!! I take my DIS info verrrryyyy seriously..... :scratchin

Last year we did the character breakfast @ Confisco Grill in I.O.A and we were all disappointed :sad2:. It was very $$ and the food was not that good. I had also informed them that it was my DD princess: 7th birthday when i did the reservation and the server said nothing untill I told her the characters did not even come to our tables at all. Not even when they sang her birthday.

That is such a shame!! :sad2: So sorry to hear not a good experience w/ a character breakfast...especially for a DD birthday!! Alas, it's not Disney...you can bet Disney would have been on the ball!! (I've heard that about CG...food not so good......) :wizard:
