OMG!!! My teachers are evilllllll. Every year they make us read a certain amount of books. Every year before 8th grade was just one book. I can handle that. But this year they made us read two books and, honostly, who wants to waste their summer reading when you could be out doing something. I only have one more book that I have to read, but still, I hate this.:scared1:

I actually loved summer reading. Those were some of the best books I've read.
But then again, I love reading. lol

Same!

I finished my summer reading book before school even ended. I finished it after I was done with my finals. :D

Well, that's awesome!!!! No sarcasm. We didn't find out about the books till the two days before school started. I went to the beach right after that, so i couldn't go to my library to get a book. Then we also had football workouts and then I had to go work at my dad's gymnastics camp for kids after that. It took me a while to get my book, but I finished it in less than two days. The book is Goose Chase.

awh, im sorry about that.
i love reading, but i see where youre coming from.
i hate when my teachers wait until the last minute to give assignments,
and then make them due in a ridiculously short amount of time.

Wow. We got a list of books before school ended. They even had a few days to purchase the books during lunch. I did pick the shortest book, though. I read Story Of A Girl.

I don't understand the big problem, it's only 2 books?

I know. I read at least five books every summer. It's just, they should let you have your own free range of books. And what's worst, one of the books was telling you how to grow up in Hitler's shadow. Or something like that. I love reading but the book that i just got done reading was horrible. It was probably written in the 1700's

I love to read.:thumbsup2
Especially when its manga that I drew!!;)

What book was that?

Teachers pick the books for you, so you'll read things that expand your mind. Otherwise, every kid would pick to read Twilight or Harry Potter. They're called 'classics' for a reason, because they've been around for a while and you could learn a lot by reading them.

It was called Goose Chase. Some of the words :confused3 when i first read it. I understand them now. But still, I understand where you are coming from, but who wants to grow up to be like hitler????????????

I love summer reading, I just don't like that we don't get to choose what books to read.

The Wild Goose Chase? I'm not understanding, that play was written in the 1600's -- obviously way before Hitler?

Anyway, you didn't know the words, now you know them. You are expanding your vocabulary. Just one of the good reasons why we should read the classics.

There's usually at least one book that's just not that great at all. That's how it's always been with me- one book will turn out to be one of my favorites ever, one will bore me to death. And for AP, we had to read this non-fiction book about grammar and writing!!!! It was so stupid! Worst of all I'm like wow, I really hope there's not going to be people who don't know these basic writing skills in AP!!!!

Plus it's not just the reading- you have to write the papers and do the projects too.

I'm so glad I'm in college now! Once you're done with a class, it's over! No summer reading unless you sign up for summer semester!

Well every year until you go into highschool summer reading at my school is based on points.

So depending on your level you had a certain amount of points you have to get, so you can read a book with alot of points and maybe read one or two or read a couple smaller books.

if you do bad on the test you have to still get the points so you end up reading more books.

so some people read like 7 books.

This years summer reading for going into highschool, i have to read two books. One choice and one required.

So far i have read "The Secret Life of Bee's" and absolutely loved it.

Honestly, two books should only take you a few days.

And I guess I hate having to read books that were chosen for me. I kind of absolutely hated To Kill A Mockingbird. Yeah, I get it's significance, but it's terrible literature in my mind.

I liked the movie more than the book.
