The AHL team the Toronto Marlies. I was recently at a game they were playing and I was anxious to see what the emblem on their jerseys were. Just a Maple leaf with two crossed hockey sticks. So the question remains, WTH is a Marlie?

It's short for Marlboroughs... which was the name of a defunct team in Toronto. I think they did it as sort of a tribute, but didn't want to have the same name as the cigarette.

At least that's my understanding.

There is a local high school here that is the Benson Bunnies! Funny thing is it's a really, REALLY rough part of Omaha. Also the Plattsmouth Blue Devils.
