My 15 yr old DD has just come down with chicken pox, she is covered from her tum upwards. I am worried because i haven't had it and i can see how misrable she is and apparently it is worse for us oldies!!!!!!

How awful for her, I caught it from my son at the grand old age of 32!! it was awful, I felt suicidal, it developed into shingles and I was off work for ages. Hopefully you'll escape but be prepared just in case, get a load of pre pared meals in the freezer so you don't have to do any cooking if you go down with it and make sure you're well stocked with fluids and pain killers

I feel so sorry for her! I had it when I was 18 and it was a horrible experience. My mum had to call the emergency doctor after a couple of days as I was in so much pain and he sedated me for 3 days. If you do catch it, see your doctor and arrange for some STRONG painkillers; the blisters can be a lot worse as you get older. I found having cool baths really soothed them. Take care,

Just hoping that you are one of these people who is immune to it. My S-I-L has even been a carrier but has never had it herself! :goodvibes

Hope your DD recovers quickly and doesn't infect you. I had chicken pox when I was 28 and it was horrible. If you do get it, go to your docter and ask for Zovirax, it is quite expensive but it really helped me.

My 2 daughters had it in November, the 4 year old had about 10 spots/blisters and no ill effects.....the 2 year old developed it about 10 days later and was absolutely plastered in them, but really wasnt too ill alongside it. Even in the bath on Sunday night I noticed a couple of scabs coming off her scalp during her hair wash, she was pretty much worse case scenario when it comes to the spots.
Im glad they got it early.

As far as I am aware, if an adult has never had it, 99% of cases just get normal chicken pox.....development into Shingles is extremely rare for a first time occurrance. Shingles normaly occurs when an adult who has previously had chicken pox, has herpes zoster remaining dormant in their body (as it does), and their immune system is a bit low, and it suddenly "wakes up"....its not pleasant atall I understand....I think you dont actualy catch it again, its something thats there already....maybe someone qualified can confirm this ?

That does make sense as my dad has had Shingles 3 times  .

Chicken Pox is Varicella and the virus remains lying dormant in the body - I've had it 3 times, each time less severely - from that you then can get Herpes Zoster, which is a variation, usually years later and often at times of stress - I got this the day after I delivered DD1. It is impossible to get Herpes Zoster if you've never had Chicken Pox.

Chicken Pox can be somewhat worse as an adult but with any luck the OP will have had it without realising.

Hope she feels better soon  and hope you don't catch it :goodvibes

My DD1 caught chicken pox last year. My DS5 was next, soon followed by my DH aged 34 and myself aged 34. For the kids it was no big deal at all. I am sorry to say that for both my husband and I it was a terrible ordeal. I was off work for 5 weeks and husband for 3. You can develop a chest infection and ultimately pneumonia from it and it is MUCH worse to get as an adult. Hopefully the OP has had it or has some immunity to it but I fear that if her child has it and she has no antibodies towards it she is destined to get it. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

 Hope that she is soon feeling better.

DD caught it last year. We'd been visiting DMIL in the states for Christmas and New year and two days before we flew home she woke up with bumps all over her body! Needless to say that was not a fun flight!

Hope your patient gets better real soon and that you dont get it :goodvibes

I was really lucky my 2 DS's both started with chickenpox on the same day, wots the odds of that happenin
