Worried wait times will be high

I don't roll with the punches well when I've spent a lot of money to do something. I'm not going. I don't know when we'll go back. It's a hard choice, but the lesser of two evils for us.

The first round of folks will heavily be AP folks who are a little more tolerant of not having the perfect day, since they visit frequently.

We are DVC members and will be there on the first day July 11th, 9am sharp in MK. It will be different but we are extremely flexible since we usually go at least twice a year.

Great attitude! Have Fun!

Im just going to put out a blunt, blanket comment out there.
If anything about your trip worries you, honestly, reschedule.
Nobody knows what is going to happen. The queues might be short due to low capacity but then the workforce will also be low due to Disney not recalling everyone back. The vq, if they use it, might crash. Nothing will be like it was before for a while and it's no one's fault.
Well said.

For the forseeable future, the ONLY way to go to WDW is with the attitude IT IS WHAT IT IS.

There is nothing wrong with not accepting that and waiting for however long it takes for the FULL WDW experience to return-and IT WILL RETURN one day and this will all be a memory.

I'm just curious...do you already have your reservation? I haven't heard of anyone being able to actually reserve yet and an interested in how it works.

I wouldn’t base WDW crowds off Shanghai. When we were in Shanghai (on rainy weekdays in low season) it was standard for waits to be 60-90 minutes. There aren’t many rides there, so most rides have long waits. Popular rides (pirates, Tron, 7dwarves) can be 2 hours.

This is really well said. I have said in other threads we are cancelling for sure, but there is still that 0.1% chance we may go. Frankly, the worries, especially with the latest cancellations of dining plans etc., have tipped us to 100%. I really hope that anyone that goes has a GREAT time, and maybe even a once in a lifetime experience. However, that is not going to be for everyone. With the money and emotions that a Disney vacation take and bring, I agree that if any worries remain, just wait it out and go another time.

Also most blogs are predicting very low crowds after the first couple weeks. They are expecting the majority of people to cancel and/or reschedule especially after the recent removal of free dining. Many of these blogs are also predicting Disney is actually going to be hurting for business after the first couple of weeks.
Bloggers are saying stuff? Man, am I appeased. :D

If wait times were going to be a concern they wouldn’t of done away with FP+. I believe it will look like an After Hours/ Special Event. They do not use FP+ for those, staff accordingly, and let the event organically manage it self regarding wait times. The longest wait time at these events is around 35ish minutes and most times you can come back and it isn’t that long anymore. Those events don’t always have parades/shows/etc to draw crowds to either because it is unnecessary

They will be reduced staff and it will be different but as frustrated as we are with Disney and don’t think they know what they are doing, they can not afford to screw this up. They need great reviews and positive PR especially since they are opening a month later that others.
The wait time reduction at all lower capacity Disney special events/parties does not apply in this situation because they weren't leaving seats empty. How do you keep people 6' apart on a roller coaster when each seat is only 2' wide? That's 3 empty seats between every party unless Disney rejects the 6' guideline.

Unfortunately we don’t know that for sure. We may find that we are living in a changed world going forwards, as corporations refuse to take on the risk of future (unknown) pandemics. We may find that changes are a lot longer than (say) 6 months until the economy reopens this time around...

I'm another Disney fan that has AP and DVC. But 4 years ago, I was just a mom that tried to take her family once every 12-18 mos. I remember how important those trips felt because we couldn't go again for at least a year. That mom, would not have done well in the current situation because she stressed about the details, maximizing park time, etc.

Today I have some worry about what things will look like, but not the anxiety type worry that means I can't accept what happens when we arrive this summer. I ask myself and other fans questions partly as a way of processing what's happening. I have read so many posts here and on other social media platforms with people just trying to process. It's ok to look for information and "talk" through what's happening :)

If you ever go to your local amusement park then you should be used to the wait times. Myself, I am used to waiting in lines for 30 minutes or more. Its not a big deal.

I don’t understand the constant argument that Disney is trying to rip you off and pull the wool over your eyes. They would not of eliminated FP+ if they were worried about wait time. They clearly know the analytics. Stand by is a totally different setup when you aren’t letting FP+ through at a 85-15ish rate. This is most evident at the end of the night with standby goes super fast after FP+ has ended.

There will be a lot of people that have later reservations that will be hard at how Disney handles those first 4-5 weeks. If after say a month goes by and there are a lot of complaints people will start to cancel. My next trip is from 9/27 - 10/2 and I will be getting my updates from fellow DISers. If wait times are ridiculous I am going to cancel. I don't expect to walk on rides but I don't want to wait 1.5 hours to ride HM or PoC.

I am DVC and AP holder so we have little to lose. I have to use my points and we have airfare credits from a cancelled Aulani trip. So in a way we lose more if we do not go. I am not sure how I feel about being a guinea pig due to the parks opening during our trip. Part fo me thinks this is a great, unique experience and the other part is not looking forward to wearing masks in the heat and humidity but we have a larger room this time in case we spend more time at the resorts than usual. No parade, fireworks, characters is fine. We go a few times a year and it will be back again someday. I am looking forward to low crowds.

That's what I was thinking. I've watched a couple of streams from there and it looked like there was not much to do. There might be an issue at DHS if there are no shows and Star Wars isn't open and maybe EPCOT if you can't eat around the world. But I don't think it will be as bad as china for waits.

We still planning on going in September. We know it will be different but we will be happy just to be there. We will make the best of it and try to be as flexible as possible. One thing that is helping me is that we will have a rental car. That should ease the stress of using transportation, although we'll still have to take the boat to MK from the Poly but that's fine.

I would hope Disney is planning for appropriate staffing, capacity and procedures to avoid excessively long waits. Considering they are still charging full price for a heavily diluted experience I believe it would lead to a lot of complaints, bad PR and future cancellations if the available experiences do not run smoothly.

As someone who only goes every 2-3 years I would not be willing to spend the money on a trip right now but if I was a local or frequent visitor I wouldn’t hesitate.

Honestly, I think that is why they came out so quickly after the opening date with all the things that won’t be part of it until further notice,

While there are still so many unanswered questions, I think they are letting people know that if you come, the experience is not going to be the same experience you have had in the best, or thst you have heard about if you are a first time visitor,

I agree,,,tickets are a lot..but I also think that anyone who chooses to still go has to have the mindset that I will wait in lines, I won’t always get what I want, it may take me much longer to get the park, etc..

If one is going to get there, I do believe a go with the flow attitude is a must, and from what I am reading, I think a lot of guests are canceling because it is not going to be worth the $$$. I also believe Disney knows that and has enough of a base in DVC owners and AP holders to weather the losses of cash guests until they can provide those people with something closer to what they are paying for. JMHO
