My current reservation is at the SSR using the annual pass rate. I had a reservation at the CR but when I saw the SS studio open and it was cheaper than the CR I decided to take it. Before booking I did look at the map of the SSR and although noticed it was quite big I thought it would be ok. Now having seen an aerial picture of the SSR, I'm a little concerned. First off its big! I would want to be close to the main bldg so I considered requesting The Springs area. But now after asking about the bus service, I'm concerned that I'll have trouble getting on buses since I use an ECV (electric scooter). Yes they ask passengers sitting in the handicap chairs to move but if the bus is standing room only what can they do. I also do not like that each building is surrounded by parking and that to get to one area from another it appears I'm gonna have to cross streets. I worry that all this will impact the Disney Feel.

So anyone that has stayed can you please share your opinions? I know yall can calm my nerves :)!

Thanks

Depending on where you end up staying, there is a walkway that rings the 'lake' at the center of the resort that would -- for the most part, mean that you can avoid crossing roadways to get where you want to go. The only real exception I can see is 'Broadway" on the lower right center of the map. I see the walkway crosses this road. I dont' think you have to worry about this honestly.

I would be explicit about your needs at check-in. Simply state that because of your ECV you would like to be near the first bus stop so you're not excluded from full buses and close to the main buildings if that combination is possible.

You're going in September, I'm not sure that full buses will be much of a problem to be perfectly honest. Saratoga is the best kept secret at Disney in my book and is very rarely full. :)

I would suggest checking in as early as possible. The earlier you check in the more room selections you have. I would suggest asking for the Springs. If in the springs you will only have to cross the street to go to the lobby or main pool. Although, you're right the springs is the last stop & the buses are usually full. However, SSR is HUGE (that's an understatement) & most DVCers don't go in Sept, so I don't think the resort will be that full.

I think you'll be okay. I stayed there in the Springs in Nov & I can only remember the bus coming with standing room only twice & Nov is a lot busier than Sept.

I would also recommend trying to get the bus in not so "busy times".

I really think you'll be okay, but staying in the Springs is a definite suggestion. :thumbsup2

oops! My signature is wrong. This trip is Aug 15th to 20th. I reread my post to tryand figure out why you both said Sept. Then I saw my signature.

I was considering the Springs seeing that bridge across the water. The other side of the bridge doesn't seem far from the paddocks bus stop. Anyone know about how long of a walk it is across it?

We will probably be checking in around noon. Our flight is getting in at 11am.

Thanks for the info so far :)

MissMet this won't be a problem. We are late risers! The only day I plan on being up and out early is when we visit the AK.:)

The bridge is not that long of a walk at all. Our first stay at SSR in June06 we had the middle building of the Paddocks and we walked up to the main area alot.

I would suggest the Grandstands as a place for you to request. It's the 1st stop (well it was this JUne) and it's not far from the main buildings as well.

Either way Enjoy our Home Resort we really love it.

Thanks for the info. I knew you all could calm me! I requested the Grandstand area and the bldg that houses rooms 8501-8806. I think that will work out just fine.

Thanks again

The resort isn't as big as some think. It actually ranks middle in resort sizes. Most of the moderates are larger and all of the values are. Think over 1100 rooms compared to 800.

From the farthest area to DTD is less than a mile.

It is very hard to request a particular building and get it, if you want Grandstand I would let that be my only request.

We stayed at the grandstand last month, room 8434. The bus stop was right outside, so there was practically no walking to it. We were the first stop,so you will have no problem with full buses. Also, there is a path right by the quiet pool, and you are at the main building in a couple minutes. I origionally wanted to stay at the Springs to be close to everything, but am soooo happy we ended up in the Grandstand. Also, the Grandstand is the newest building, I think only 3 or 4 months old. It is immaculately clean and lovely. Have fun!

Well my request are done already. I will leave them as they are. If I get there and I'm not where I'd like to be I will kindly ask them to check that area. As I do often. If they still can't get it for me I will kindly talk with them and pick something best for me and my son.

And I don't know if you are talking about the SSR in general but many times, at different resorts, I have not only got the building I requested but as well as the room. :)

I've stayed at SSR during the months of January and August, and I honestly can't remember ever being on a full bus. Not to say it isn't possible or anything, but at that same time I used other hotel's buses, and they were a lot busier. I think it's because SSR doesn't share like many other resorts do.
