I must be the world's worst mom. I tried to take my kids swimming this evening in our above-ground pool. My DH had asked me to take out the skimmer basket and empty it, so I went over to the far side of the pool first to do as he had asked. My 3 year old son followed me and wanted to "help". Having had a long day, I kind of snapped at him that he could help later and to wait a minute.
I pulled out the basket and it was full of fuzzy leaf-things, so I beat it against the railing to knock out the junk. Suddenly, I hear my son screaming bloody murder. I turn around to see him covered with wasps. When I hit the railing, I disturbed a wasp's nest and they flew out and attacked him!
Without even thinking, grabbed him with one arm and dipped him in the pool to get rid of any wasps that were still on him, then took him to the patio and stripped him naked. Of course, he's still screaming, now he's dripping wet and cold and I can see the welts starting to swell up on his head and hands. My daughter followed us into the house and started to cry too. What a disaster!
I gave him a shot of Benedryl and put some stuff on the welts. He's now sleeping and breathing fine, so I guess the worst is over, but I feel so horrible that I could just cry! Not only did I snap at him when he was trying to help me, I was the one that caused the attack! I just know that we're going to wind up on Jerry Springer as a deranged family!
