World Trade Center finalists

they're different. i think i like the studio libeskind better than think. it looks more like new buildings instead of just replacing the old towers.

I really like the idea of a tower 1,776 feet tall, also like the skyline with several fairly large buildings. I also like the idea of leaving a portion of "the pit" visible.

I really dislike the idea of two large "erector-set" towers with very little functionality. I understand the need for a memorial, but that manner of execution just seems very wasteful to me. The description said that they would contain "observation decks"... don't most tall buildings have those?

I like the 2 with the lattice work. Can't stand the other one with the pointy thing at the top.

I don't care for the one with the stylized airplane in it. It just seems a little disrespectful to me, but on the other hand it might be a nice part of the memorial. I just can't decide how I feel. I think overall I prefer the Studio Libeskind one.

I think I like the idea of the tall tower that would be the tallest in the world best. Not sure what I think of the other one though.

I've been reading about and seeing the pictures for all the designs for awhile now and hated them all.

Now that some time has passed, and with the choice narrowed down to these two, I choose the THINK one.

but i think the whole thing need to be a peace place like they did at O.K.C. I dont care about the revenue or the tax basis.

I don't know how I feel but I do like the THINK one. I personally would have rather them rebuild the towers with a proper memorial although I doubt they would do that, to me that would have brought me a comfort. I still can't imagine NYC without those towers, a have you noticed the hundreds of movies that have that shot in it??

Bumping b/c I would like to see more input from those who live in NYC/NJ.

Thanks.

I like the THINK proposal the best also. In my opinion we don't need to forget what the first towers looked like. This proposal would stand proud into the future generations just as the old towers did.

I really don't like either of them, but I think the idea of two lattice-frame buildings, with a link to both places struck on 9/11, is way too creepy for words. :(

As a New Yorker, I dislike both.
Why is it necessary or desirable to have the tallest building in the world. One of the things the disaster showed us is that you cannot guarantee people's safety on floors that high whether you have it be office space, a viewing platform, or an indoor garden. In my opinion, they should not go above the 50 floor level. I personally don't know of anyone who was in NY on that day who would be willing to work in such a high skyscaper today. One of the reasons they want ito build it so high is simply NY real estate and profit without much thought to the people who would have to be there working every day.

The two towers in the THINK building aren't office space. I think they said the highest floor of office space would be in the 50s. IN I think Libeskind would have the highest floor of office space be 70.

My mother used to have curlers that look just like the buildings the Think team designed.

Spago98,
You are absolutely correct about the office space, but one rendering has the Sept 11th memorial museum way up high fitted into the lattices in the space where the planes hit and the 1,776 spire will house "Gardens of the World" at the top.
I work on the 46th floor of a high-rise and pray every morning when I get in the elevator and say another of thanks every night when I get to the lobby, something I never did pre-9/11. I would never visit that museum or that garden and I would worry for those that had to work there. And not just for terrorism, but a simple fire would be deadly.
I am the first to admit I completely overreact to this, and I apologize, I just still have nightmares of that day. I'm probably not a good judge for what would be considered a good design 20 years from now. After all, in the beginning, Parisians hated the Eiffel Tower!

I like the one with the pointier top better. I don't like the 2 that are the openwork iron or whatever you call it.

Actually I saw a picture of some entries a while back and there was one that was all round buildings with a lot of glass, and that was nice too. I guess it didn't make the finals though.
