In each of the 11 countries, what is the best alcoholic beverage. Hoping to try something different in each country. Some of these I have already decided on. France has to be a Grand Marnier Slush and Mexico has to be a Margarita. I think the UK will have to be beer. Any other recommendations....

I do not plan on doing this all in 1 day mind you. I wouldn't remember which country was home if I tried this....

Mexico - the margarita is non-negotiable, ok. ;)
Norway - jury's out for me on this one.
China - Joy of Tea kiosk, I like the blended drink with peach schnapps.
Germany - Weinkeller store has wines by the glass. Or do a wine flight. ;)
Italy - Rosa Regale sparkling wine. Buy the chocolate to eat with it. Yum.
America - pass. I don't drink Bud products. Sam Adams here? I don't recall.
Japan - Mitsukoshi dept. store, back room. Sake bar, also has plum wine.
Morocco - Mimosa at the Tangierine Cafe.
France - the slushy being non-negotiable ;)
UK - I like the Strongbow cider, but any beer there would work for me.
Canada - beer, eh?

Briar Rose - have you not had the ICE WINE in Canada?

many posters here have talked about the ice wine - its a special process (the grapes stay on the vine thru a frost - concentrating flavors and sweetness, with out being overly SYRUPY - but definatley swet - plum wine is a good comparison, but not nearly doing Ice wine justice! since the grapes shrivel - its a smaller bottle, hence a small pour but still $5!

France - the talk is Grey Goose Slush vs Gran Marnier Slush (orange in color) its right over the bridge - in a kiosk - slushy machines!! Grey goose is very lemon limey - refreshing sweet sour thing going on - Gran Marnier slush is orange - to appreciate this, you should know about Gran Marnier! (strong orange liquour!) if its hot out - Grey goose, at night? coolish - Gran Marnier!!

France has a shop that does wine flights - as does Germany - Italy might, but I cannot pass up hte rosa regale!! YUM - and double YUMMMERS - right now our Wine store is selling a bottle of Rosa Regale for $19 - its red in color, and has a smell and slight taste of berries!!

Ditto on the chocolate inside only in Italy!!

The Bellini in Italy is always a must for me. DS always enjoys the chocolate covered strawberries as well.

:santa: :santa: :santa:

Ice wine by itself is too horribly sweet in my opinion, but I'll drink it all day long in an ice wine martini! :thumbsup2

There is a really delicious tangerine flavored drink sold at the Morocco Pavilion. Can't remember the name of it though, but it comes in a souveneir glass.

I have tried ice wine at the food and wine festival, one of the times being at the first year they offered Sweet Sundays. I thought it was really sweet, as is plum wine. But I can tolerate plum wine's sweetness better.

I haven't tried the France slushies yet. I kept meaning to last October, but I never got them. I was leaning towards the Grey Goose one, but now I'm leaning toward the Grand Marnier one. Choices!

I haven't done wine flights anywhere other than Germany, personally. Again, never got around to trying them elsewhere. ;)

Briar! Grey Goose! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Hope I can be there with you when you try it  Oh, and then maybe we could also try the Grand Marnier thingy :rotfl2:

Having lived in Germany, where they also have Ice Wine, I have had it many times. I agree that it is wayyyyy too sweet, but the Ice Wine Martini sounds yummy! Do you have a good recipe for it?

Thanks!

Karen

We just use a shot glass here at home and pour one shot each of ice wine and vodka (we use Cirroc) over a shaker full of ice. Give it a good 30-second shake and then pour it into your martini glass. Simple and delicious! :thumbsup2

I am not a drinker because I get very tipsy fast and would rather spend the calories on cake or something. Having said that, the Grand Marinier Slush at the France Pavillion was great. It was so hot that day, I could have sat under a tree with a bucket of it.

Okay, that didn't sound so great. Seriously though, it was that good.

Having drank around the world once or twice (or ten times...) my picks are:

Mexico: The multiflavoured margarita. Ask for it with sugar.
Italy: Rose Ragala. Its a sparkling red wine. Delicious!
China: They do a peach schnapps flavoured ice tea slushie thats amazing.
France: Definately the Grey Goose Slushie. Amazing.
UK: You can stick with beer but theres some really nice cocktails there. Theres an English Rose which is a fruity cocktail with vodka, gin and peach schnapps. But my favourite is the Welsh Dragon which has melon liquour, schnapps again and cream de menthe as well as fruit juice which has a really unusual flavour. Best thing about the UK though is that since its a full bar you can have pretty much whatever you like. They also make a Pimms Cup which is a fruit flavoured liquour with Sprite and lots of fruit in it. Very summery and British!!

I am not a beer drinker so I am very interested in these...do you have pictures?!?!?:surfweb:
