World of Color Superthread

Hours for June 13 are up and still no WoC show time info on the calendar? :confused3
I would not worry about it very much at this point. I think the calendar for June is in flux - you know, everything is subject to change with Disney. I think the June 11 is solid but some folks out there are not so sure.

Here is hoping for an Al Lutz update on Tuesday. Along these lines you might have seen an earlier post of mine in this thread.

I am hearing lots of conflicting information about AG, dining/dessert reservations, and even Showpass. I think Disney has not settled yet on what they are going to do about any of this and I will not be surprised if it turns out to be quite different than we are speculating and what I have collected into the OP.

So, just a reminder that the only thing we know for sure is that Disney has announced June 11 as the WOC debut. And even that could change. But I personally doubt it. Just about everything else is uncertain. Do not make any hard plans around any of the information in this thread. The World of Color implementation is still evolving. I am very curious about Al Lutz's next update - hopefully next Tuesday as he usually gets something out about every five weeks and he is due!

Did anyone see Big Bang Theory? Sheldon went to Disneyland and they got home late b/c they stayed to see "California Adventure's new water show".

A little early, but cool nonetheless!

I thought it was cool too, but you've got to know it was fiction because Sheldon would have never survived the crowds that are going to be there. He just doesn't seem like one who would tolerate standing with that many people to watch a water show! :)

IMO they were playing fast and loose with character personalities in that episode anyway, so it only made sense to not make sense.

OR...the magic of Disneyland can make even Sheldon deal with it?

OR...aren't they saying they are using FP system for WOC? So that probably helps Sheldon, and he probably spends the time working out equations or something in his head. :)

I don't watch the show. But knowing how they could of been writing it 6 months ago and figuring that WoC could have been open already.

Of course being that a lot of plots come from the minds of LA people, They could just have a writer who is a disneyfan too.

What are the odds that WOC will have a daytime show like the Bellagio does in Vegas????????????

I'm guessing you haven't seen any video of the WoC shows. If you haven't then hold out for the real thing.

The Bellagio is fine during the day and illuminated at night, not just to enhance it, but because you wouldn't see it in the dark.

But if the Bellagio show has the lights on during the day would you notice a difference?

Probably not and WoC uses some lights.

Say T-ball is a normal fountain maybe like you could find in a yard garden. Little League is like a park fountain or one outside a fancy office building. Babe Ruth or high school baseball is like the Bellagio. But the Anaheim Angels in their best year aren't coming close to being like the WoC.

Hey, wouldn't that be something. :goodvibes Just some little shows every once in awhile. No lights, just fountains. That would be cool. :cool1:

I have to say, that I am excited to know that there might be some soft openings in a couple of weeks. Woo hoo! :woohoo: Do you think it might be busy? :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I happen to like Amy Grant too. She has a nice easy going voice, for either singing or narrating. :goodvibes

Now that you mention i,t there is one added show element that I haven't seen working, that may go with the night show but maybe not. My guess is it will be a sort of preshow entertainment when people are gathering in paradise park.

In the gardens in Paradise park are fountains in the bushes. Like I said, I haven't heard anyone report what they do but they are there.

Also There is the play fountain in the middle of Paradise Park. This I have never heard a report of it running either.

Mostly I wanted to bump this thread up, so we don't have a new WoC thread starting each day.

I still don't know that TSMM will remain open. I understand the logic that it is indoors, I also understand that it is being updated for summer so why would it be partially closed each day?

But I still think that to operate it there will need to be lighting in the que area which is outside. There will also need to be lighting from the attraction to have access off of paradise pier.

While this may seem minor projection screens work because they are dark on one side. The TSMM and shorter pier area being lit would be in the area that is behind the view of almost half the paradise park viewers.

It just seems errant to try to make a show perfect and then purposely allow in small flaws.

That being said it seems wrong that it is reported that PP area will close at 8 and the first WoC show will be at 8:30. It seems like it will be hard to remove people from the attraction in 30 minutes. The ques can be much longer than that alone.

I have only heard of 9PM shows and not 8:30PM shows.

The changes to TSMM are being classed as "Summer Nighttastic." So I think it's likely that it will be open during WoC. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/special/summer/index?name=Summer#/attractions

That said, the Summer Nighttastic page has a section for something like "Days and Nights of Fun" as well (and that page has a drawing of Tinkerbell in her Electrical Parade float!). So the website isn't perfect. Plus, last year Disney promised a new dragon for Fantasmic that didn't materialize for their promotions, so TSMM's hours may be something we didn't expect either.

As for allowing some small flaws into the show, my opinion is, with record crowds and, it appears, a smaller-than-projected viewing area, it would probably spark slews of complaints, and perhaps even some dangerous crowd-control situations, if they were to forbid people from watching the show from the "wrong" side of the lagoon. If they do not forbid people from watching the show from that side, then they'll need to have some amount of lighting, and if that is the case, then they might as well run TSMM as well.

If they DO literally close the area down, then it would be a better physical show for the 6,000 who are in the viewing area (or perhaps just the 2,500 estimated to have really good views). I'm not sure how "bad" the show looks from the "wrong" side. I believe Disney is worried about people seeing the show the "wrong" way and then reporting back that it's not very good, creating bad buzz. But I'm sure they're also worried about how in the world you deal with putting on such a limited-capacity show. Imagine a family who flew out to see the show, tried for 4 nights, and still couldn't even catch a glimpse of it! I'd be madder about that than if I waited for an hour or two to see the show from a poor location and the show turned out to be less than impressive.

And Disney is probably also worried about having a park with a huge number of its attractions closed (including two attractions that you see in much of their merchandise, California Screamin' and the Fun Wheel) from 8 PM on. Keeping TSMM open will at least provide one more thing to see.

When things aren't going as planned (like a seating area with a capacity only 2/3 of what was projected), I think sometimes compromises may be the best way to deal with the problem.

I am not sure if someone already posted this, but just called Disney Dining for some reservations and asked about WOC dining packages...she thinks they will know something on May 11 (not for sure but she strongly hinted I call back then).

I imagine May 11th might be a day ther know wether or not because it is thirty days off the opening of WoC. Notice how I say wether or not, because there is no guarantee that it will happen.

Right 9pm, but still the point is valid, lines for TSMM and Screemin can be an hour long, and MM and maybe the new thrilling SSS will be reaching these times too with added crowds.

I don't think Disney is worried about closing down a section of the park. Remember RDCT closes down a bunch of DL. While it closes and then reopens it does shut down. If people who's main focus were also the age where they use the internet there may be more complaints of that practice. Also after each show the parks attendance is going to drop significantly. at 6000 people mostly leave for the night. And as is predicted while 6000 are watching the show another 6000 will be sequestered waiting for the next show.

I also don't think that Disney suddenly realized that the park they built would only hold 6000. Doesn't it seem obvious that Disney would know how many people fit in a space. How do they know how many people to let into the haunted mansion elevators? In WDW there are a lot of standing only attractions. If they did indeed change it from 9k to 6k it was to space out the guests, not a design error.

So did I miss something, now they are only estimating 6000 instead of 9000? :confused3
