World of Color Superthread

..I'm wondering about the music. I read about how Iger didn't like some of it so it was changed. Personally, I hope they changed having Amy Grant sing the song. I'm sorry to any fans out there but I just don't care for her. When Steve Davison announced at the Expo she was singing the song, the whole room was quiet, so I guess I'm not alone :)

Maybe the crowd wasn't disspointed like yourself but just in shock at the awe insprired by her incredible talents?

I suppose that could have been true but looking at the faces around me I don't think that was the case. Envision many wrinkled noses....:rolleyes1

Have you seen the videos of the full testing?

The one that was posted on www.laughingplace.com has ok audio. Try listening if you ears bleed you'll know the kept Grant.

Whatever. :confused3 Amy Grant is a fine choice IMO. And I am not sure D23 is the best barometer. DLR is trying to put together a show that will last awhile. Fantasmic debuted at DL in 1992 and is going strong after 18 years. Amy Grant has been around for awhile and lots of people know her - and like her.

In any case, I am surprised the PP talked about her singing for World of Color. All I had heard was that she was the "signature voice". I took that to mean something like Julie Andrews being the signature voice of Remember Dreams Come True. Julie does not sing, she just narrates.

So I pulled up my trusty Google search engine and could not find a single mention anywhere of Amy Grant singing in WOC. Just being the signature voice.

As I mentioned in the OP I have avoided and plan to avoid all videos of WOC until I get to see it live in July. Maybe some of you have watched videos in which case you know more about the show content than I do. :cool2:

With you search I'm sure that NUNZIA can find much relief.

I've trie to keep my watching of the preshows minimal as well. This being so I don't know that thier is naration in the show like Julie Andrews did. I'm not readily sure that their is even a singer, I think it may be more a corus scene to scene. Anyway I'm not going to watch anything in June when it's showing until I can see it live. It's really getting me thinking of a end of summer trip to DLR.

I don't want to spoil seeing it real the first time...Really..no offense to those who like Ms. Grant..she has a good voice and all, I just don't like her style of music. I don't know what's wrong with D23 people? :confused3 Just normal fans..huge fan of Fantasmic and own the CD and wil surely buy WOC if they have one...but will probably skip the 'song'

Ahh..could be..the voice of the narration? We'll see, but could be. I agree..I don't want to 'see' it until I 'see' it. OK..maybe I can handle just a narration. Personally..if there is a 'song' with a solo type of thing and not just a chorus, I'd rather they used an unknown so no performer is associated with it. Either way..it's coming soon and I can't wait. Hoping for a preview of some sort when I'm there...propably too early for a soft opening but maybe some glimpses of testing.

It is not there is anything wrong with D23. I have thought about joining and going to the next conference. It is more that D23 (this is me reading between the lines) is made up of super-duper Disney fans - at least the ones who go to the conference. And I will guess since they have that much time they tend to be younger. Thus not as likely to know Amy Grant - she was popular in the main stream 15-20 years ago. Plus the super-duper Disney fans (think Micechat types) are just so discriminating about everything DLR.

Bottom line is that I was guessing the D23 people at conferences have a higher percentage of younger people with a more picky attitude about Disney's choices. Nothing wrong with the crowd at all, just not the crowd that represents the larger Disney base and thus maybe not representative of whether Amy Grant is a good choice. :)

And frankly I will be surprised if she sings at all. Although I personally do like her style and voice, I am not expecting her to sing - just to be the vocal glue, so to speak.

Yes, I totally agree. I get tired of seeing celebrities being the voice for disney things. Having celebrities tends to date the attractions so imo they don't seem timeless like they should.

With Julie Andrews the exception I hope? I think her voice in RDCT was a great move along with probably most other Disney fans. :)

I guess I never thought about celebrity vs. non in this instance. Amy Grant is a celebrity but not a major one and not a short term one. She has done several Christmas shows, does lots of concerts around Christmas (I saw one about 12 years ago in Denver) and has three Christmas CDs out that have some very good music on them. She is based in Nashville, married to a country western artist, and Nashville appeals to a large segment of America as a more traditional, Southern-hospitality, family oriented source of American culture. I doubt Amy Grant's involvement in WOC will date it because she is not the flavor of the month. And not well known enough to feel dated 10+ years from now.

What I am saying is that she has family appeal, is not a major celebrity, but not an unknown either. Should they have chosen an unknown? I dunno. :) When they recorded the song that ends the RDCT called "Remember When" they chose LeAnn Rimes. And she did a great job with that song (it is on my iPod).

I guess if Amy Grant and WOC "works" it will be a non-issue. If WOC undershoots its goal of being a major night time show on a par with Fantasmic then her choice may be questioned. But even then I suspect it would likely be other elements of the show that would be questioned first.

So true. It brings in some nastagia to RDCT, which wouldn't exist if it was an unknow.

Though I don't know that Amy Grant would do the same. Though I'll admit I loved hearing Randy Newman's voice pop up in the Toy Story film. It was long time since he mentioned Disneyland in "I love LA"
It warms up at about 50sec.

And Rascal Flats in Cars.

Though they aren't current stars they have shown some longevity that one hit wonders don't.

Ahh..that makes sense. I guess I am a super duper Disney fan..but not of the kool aid variety..but I'm not younger or even young. Ancient actually. Although there was a good mix of ages at the EXPO, I'd say the average was mid 40's and up. The EXPO was really amazing..they pulled out all stops. I really think most of the things were geared toward older fans who had been around forever. Especially all the emphasis on the Imagineers and the Legends ceremony. I think Iger was surprised at the long and loud applause for Leota as she got her Legend award which was accepted by her family members. The most touching moment, for me, was when the guy who won a night in the Dream Suite was speechless and then when he spoke barely made it through the statement that he loved Disney since his Dad was a street cleaner on Main Street. I think it was so special because everyone there pretty much 'got it' and most of us were seasoned fans. I digress..apologies to the thread, but I can't encourage people enough to join D23 for the next Expo (August 11, 2011..tickets go on sell this August 11).

PS..Julie Andews was PERFECT for RDCT..."50 years ago a man namedWalt Disney..." So glad I get to see this again in a week, and not Magic, or Magical, or whatever it's called.

In regard to the music, I wouldn't like to see WoC over Pixarfied. Or teenified with Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato! barf! I think Amy Grant is middle of the road enough, if she sings or not. :)

Yes, if I had to choose between Ms Grant and those three even I'd vote for Ms Grant...

Hours for June 13 are up and still no WoC show time info on the calendar? :confused3

We must be hearing something really soon. They only have a few more weeks to pull things together and have it figured out. I am still waiting to hear if there will be soft openings. I would assume those would be this month if there were any, and there's nothing posted on those yet either.
