World of Color Superthread

I love the math!

Personally, I think 10 seconds per ShowPass is probably a closer estimate, especially if Disney does even a small amount of crowd control. For instance, CMs could direct people to form short lines at each station (to avoid wasted time walking from the FP entrance to the Showpass distribution machines). If the line IS huge then I think the majority of the line will be made up of "runners", who know how to get FPs using multiple tickets. Barring system glitches, it doesn't take 15 seconds each ticket (and probably not even 10 seconds each ticket) for a person with 4 tickets to get 4 FPs from the machine.

With enough CMs--perhaps a few people out in front telling people to get out their ticket media, ample signage to explain the system, and possibly even one at each station to insert the tickets for guests (as they'd be faster than all but seasoned runners), I think the average time might get well below 10 seconds.

I'm still curious to see if people will try to watch from the "wrong" side. Reportedly the mist screens won't really be clear (but then there are rumors of special seating at Ariel's Grotto, where the mist screens probably wouldn't be clear either, and isn't there that DVC roof area where the Golden Zephyr probably blocks the mist screens too?). I reckon much of the fountain and effects aspects will be visible from the other side of the "bay", so if people are allowed to view from that area I would think that a lot of locals/etc. will be staking out spots there quite early in the afternoon.

I do feel the Showpass as we understand it stacks the deck in favor of those who can visit the park for the whole day, but I think most locals can take a day off at some point, too...as a vacationer, I'll be taking off a few days of work to visit the parks, after all. :) Locals often tour the park differently than me; I don't want to spend several hours of my limited time at the parks camped out for fireworks, which some locals who arrive, say, after leaving work early, choose to do, since they'll visit the park again next week if they want.

All that said, I hear Tokyo Disneyland has a completely different Showpass-type system, like a lottery, for obtaining tickets to shows. I'm not sure that would go over so well with tourists who might only have 2-3 nights to see WoC and didn't win the "lottery"--or even locals who are used to being able to wait in line to get admittance to a show/ride/etc. I suppose Disney could have some "wait in line" Showpasses and when those run out, switch to the lottery system, but that would probably cause a ridiculous number of complaints to Guest Relations, so maybe not. :flower3:

All that said about passes and distribution, I just watched the majority of the show from my balcony. Granted the projections were not at all clear like they would be if you were in the viewing area, but it was totally amazing! I can't wait to see this show from the front. I forgot some stuff when we checked in today, so I have to go home tomorrow afternoon and I'm grabbing the video camera and my DSLR for tomorrow night!

Thanks for organizing this thread HydroGuy:thumbsup2 I have my fingers crossed for soft openings for WOC and the ShowPass system in early June. I'll be staying at VGC 6/6-9 on my way from a San Diego conference to visit DS at UCSB:cool1:

OK, it has been a few years...But I think we met you at AK in 2006 in the EE photo line! Wasn't that you?

Good luck in WoC soft openings. And have fun at UCSB - the most beautiful college campus in the country. How do I know? Graduated there in - ahem - 1985. Go Gauchos! Be sure to take a walk on Goleta Beach for me! :goodvibes

And DW graduated from college in San Diego. Take a walk on Point Loma for her. :)

After standing in line for nearly 20 minutes to get summer FP's for Splash Mountain, I can't even being to imagine what the line will be like to get a pass for WoC! It could be complete madness. I will be checking back often to learn about dining options.

BTW, my daughter and I vacation at UCSB each summer at FVC. It's an amazing campus.

Yes, that was me and my DNeph- I remember how funny your DW and your boys thought it was that I knew your DIS name when they mentioned it - they had to run outside and get you just to make you meet the woman they had been talking to in line that 'knew' who you were and was so impressed with you - they were so cute!:lmao: I had been planning the first DL trip for DNeph, so you had answered many many questions for me in the months prior to that WDW trip.

Yes, UCSB is gorgeous - nice to know another grad! My DS went from one ocean to another - smart boy - as a frosh he had an ocean/channel island view and two surfboards up against his bunk - tough life. He loves Calif and we may never get him East again. I miss him terribly and always love getting out there to see him and enjoy that beautiful area.:goodvibes Lucky for me my peeps are holding their convention in Coronado this year.:thumbsup2

That would make you almost as old as me, Hydroguy! Horrors!

Anyone catch the bit in the disneyparks blog about WoC being year round? Will this mean super extended hours for DCA? I really like that idea :goodvibes

I took that in the context of the Nightastic comment so that no one thought it was summer only.

“World of Color” debuts this year as part of Summer Nightastic! –- a lineup of exciting, after-dark entertainment at the Disneyland Resort. Summer Nightastic! will run from June 11 through August 29, and you’ll be able to catch “World of Color” year-round at Paradise Bay.

Ahh I was reading it as it will play all year and not go on hiatus (thinking  to myself as it has no live actors) and maybe DCA will stay open extended hours as DL does when crowds dictate. I can dream :wizard: I would love to stay later at DCA, I think it looks much better at night

I'm watching it right now. Last night was amazing. they did a run through and then did tests. i went to bed at 1 am and they were still runnin tests. Right now they are shooting water out and the colors are dark blue and teal. No music or projections...HA it just went black in the water....

We will be there June 23-27. Do you think they'll have any handicapped accessible areas? Worried that if it's all standing, my DS won't be able to see anything from his wheelchair. May have to consider a dining package (I'm presuming the resort perk would be for concierge only?).

I think the resort perk is also for people staying in the GCVillas. Rumor has it that it will be a dessert package similar to F!. :goodvibes

We are planning on doing the F! Dessert pkg, so we may be eating a ton of sweets at night that week! ;)

I suspect that you can use Fantasmic viewing as a guide. Are there any there? I know there are ramped walkways from the photos.

I have not seen any rumors yet of a dessert package. Where did you see this? I have only seen dining reservation rumors as discussed in the OP.

I didn't see it, I spoke with a CM on the premium dining/ticketing line yesterday and she told me she thought it was going to be a dessert package similar to F!

Scoop me= 2, others= 0. :lmao: ;) Know I am totally teasing. :goodvibes
