World of color dessert party?!

Hi everyone, I just returned from a 2-week trip in California (4 days visiting DL / DCA) and I have to say that the WoC dessert party was one of the highlights!

We arrived at 7:45 (our reservation was for 8:15, WoC was at 8:45) and there were two families in front of us. I don't think anyone has to be there early - everyone has a good seat, and our table was pre-selected for us.

The CMs were clear that no one was going to be let in until 8:15, so DH and my boys went to ride Silly Symphony Swings. I spent time talking to the people around me and the CMs, who were very friendly and helpful. Right at 8:15 we were let in, and we were given a high-top in the back row with a high-top in front of us, and it was still an amazing view. I could barely notice it (as you'll see in my photos)

ALLERGY ALERT - I had listed that my son had an allergy, and I was called 48 hours in advance to discuss it. They had it listed as a gluten allergy, but he actually only has issues with molds on fresh cheeses, such as Brie. In the end, I think they gave him the gluten-free plate, but the brie was missing from his plate, so it was perfect:
The gluten-free plate:

Note that it's missing the macaron, bundt cake, and waffle bowl, but has a mango gellee instead, as well as lots of fruit and the contents of the waffle bowl in a glass ramekin. He was very happy with it (and almost finished the whole thing!)

Here is the standard menu:

Our boys enjoyed the glow-with-the-show cups, but they were way too big to bring back on the airplane. Both my husband and I had the Wonderful cocktail - very good, but I like sweet drinks. Our server was great about bringing some hot chocolate and coffee right before WoC started.

My older son also enjoyed playing the little cell phone game where you can try to control the lights on Mickey's Fun Wheel. Best of all, we were able to slip out and run to the restroom right before the show started, as you have a wristband, and they let you right in through all of the crowds. I have to admit to feeling quite special on this night!

We got to sit back, enjoy the food and the sights and some of the best conversation of our entire trip. And then, this was our view:

The tree-like item smack dab in the center is the feather from the little girl in front of us - she was wearing Minnie headband with a peacock feather sticking out of it. I didn't really notice it at the time, but it looks pretty bad here. Needless to say, it didn't affect me at all.

I enjoyed WoC Celebrate much more than I expected. I'm a *massive* fan of the original WoC, and so I was already disappointed to not see my favorite version. While I feel there is too much Neil Patrick Harris (I didn't think that was possible, but in the end, I think his part is a bit obtrusive), both the Frozen and Star Wards sections of this show are amazing, and in general, the last 1/4 was really really fantastic.

Afterwards, you are in no way rushed to leave, and the CMs come back around to check on your. They don't even bring out to-go boxes until after the show. so they expect you to stay for a bit.

Two nights later, we were back in DCA, and I saw the CMs setting up the dessert party. Oh how I wanted to join them again! It was a huge splurge for us, but since we love on the East Coast and since this is probably one of the only times my kids will ever see WoC, it was SO worth it!

Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

Oooh this looks so awesome!!! I can't wait to do this!!! Less than a month until our trip and I can hardly stand it!! :hyper:

We went last week and it was great! I don't believe it makes one bit of difference whether you line up before 8:15 which is when they start checking people in, because it certainly appeared clear to us that the tables were pre-assigned and set before we got there. People that arrived well after us got better tables. We got there just after 8:00 and there were several groups in line already- there were also several groups that came behind us and also people that showed up after we were already seated. I would say we were about in the middle of the arrivals. We were assigned one of the tall back tables, but it was behind a section of the front row that was also tall tables, not the shorter tables. When we were seated there were still empty shorter tables as well as taller tables in the front row, so we were put on the back row even though the front row was definitely not full at the time. Also, there were still tall back row tables empty that had shorter tables in front of them. I suspect that what you are assigned goes by the order in which you have booked the package. I did not book when it first opened up- I booked it about 10 days after the 60 day window opened. We had plenty of time to enjoy the desserts and drinks before WOC started. I would say even the people that showed up a little later and did not stand in line (probably around 8:20 or 8:25) had plenty of time to enjoy dessert and drinks. Our desserts were brought to us almost immediately after we were seated. They were slow to take our drink order, but they were running around like crazy working hard- maybe they were a little short staffed that night. After they had gotten everyone served drinks, they were very attentive in checking on all the tables to see if they could bring you more drinks or if you needed anything else. The servers were offering to take cameras or phones and take photos of your group if you wanted them too also. After having seen WOC more than once with the dinner package and having to sit on the ground for about an hour to get a spot on the rail in the wet zone so that DD and short I could see, having a chair and drinks and dessert was absolutely fantastic. The only issue I had was because it was a tall table in front of us and a very big tall guy seated at the table in front of us and another big tall guy next to him, my view was not perfect. It was still definitely better than if you were standing below in the crowd, but there was a big head blocking part of the central portion of my view and that head is in any photos that I took of the show. If a short person had been seated at the table in front of us, I don't think it would have been an issue at all. Also because they leave a good amount of space between the two rows of tables, it wasn't that bad- just slightly annoying. I would absolutely do it again! The only major problem with it, is that you will be too spoiled to want to do WOC any other way!

Thank you guys for such great, detailed reviews. It's a shame that they put a row of tall tables right in front of the back row of tall tables. I wonder if it is possible to request a certain table when you arrive? Has anyone tried that?

We were a party of three seated at the very back at a tall table. I can't remember what the table in front of us was like. I do know that I had a couple of heads that I looked around a couple of times, but they weren't really in my way. I am short (5'2"), so someone taller may not have even noticed them. No one offered to take our picture, but we didn't have a "real" waiter. A woman who seemed to be more "in charge" said that she was going to get us started with our drinks. Then when our waiter came by, we let him know that someone had already taken care of our drink order. We didn't see him again, and the first woman brought us everything. He seemed more personable (or more experienced as a server anyway) than the woman that took care of us. She was very nice, but I definitely had the feeling that she wasn't used to serving.

We will likely not get back out to Disneyland for a very long time, if ever. This experience was well-worth the price for us, and I'd book it again if it's available when we do go back.

We actually ended up bringing our glow cup back, flying on Southwest no less, we just stuck it in a bag buffeted by beach towels and it survived! Two cups would be challenge though....awesome review! WOC Dessert Party was the highlight of our trip as well :-D

When we went we were allowed to pick which table we wanted. We were second to last in line and we got great seats.

I've noticed recently that people are saying the seats are pre- assigned. Maybe it is a new thing? I'm hoping that you can still request; I'm short and my son is 8- so he is short too. I'm hoping for a tall table with a short table in front.

I love your pics! And I would have carried those cool cups with me on a plane,I couldn't possibly leave them behind! This makes me want to splurge and do this.... can you get those cups elsewhere,or only if you book the dessert party?

Not sure if it is clear or not but only those under 12 get the cups. Not sure if they are available any where else.

I just booked my tickets for 9/12 and I'm so excited! It's my first time and I'm just about to jump out of my skin. I can't wait!!!

Do I have to pay for a baby? DS who will only be 8 months will be with us. Do I have to call to book it? Online it says party size and for restaurantes I know we would be 4 but with this being paid upfront there is no way to say one is a baby.

When you booked this for 9/12, did it state that it would be a different show or not ?
Just wondering what the WOC show will be after the Diamond Celebration show.

The Disney site states :
Don’t miss your chance to experience the Diamond Celebration spectacular, featuring soaring fountains, fire and laser effects, stirring music and towering screens that come to life with new and classic Disney animation—ends on September 5, 2016!

Wishing you a fabulous fun time !

Wow. I wish I could do this but $79/person is steep for a party of 5. Plus it would also be something for my 9 year old daughter to get a cup that my 13 year old nephew cannot get.
