World Idol? What did you think?

Watched the tape of this and couldn't help being reminded slightly of the Eurovision Song Contest (not that I watch much of it)
It was rather bizarre, didn't you think?

And I just can't help but wonder if the voting is going to be similarly dictated by world events - if the US lady doesn't win or come a close second then we'll just know it's political!

Was it my imagination or was Will very subdued??

I thought the guy from Norway (I think) was very good. He was the last performer.

I also wondered if we (the U.S.) might have a sort of political backlash and not win, but I think there were some other deserving winners, so good luck to all!

p.s., I didn't vote anyways, I'm lazy.:p

A question, did everyone have a different slant on the airing of the show? Like between every commercial they would say "Come on America, let your voice be heard". I'm assuming they did that for each country?

thanks,
Andrea

Yes, I think it was edited according to which country you were in - we didn't have what you had! I also think they heavily edited the judges comments. We only saw a few of them speak after each song and we were shown the more controversial/outrageous comments ( how crazy was the Polish judge???) We heard Pete Waterman's (UK) comments after nearly all and Simon Cowell's comments after every song. Without those, it would have been very bland!

I think the polish judge was just trying to make himself to be another Simon Cowell, he probably thought he could make himself just as famous but he just made himself look an idiot and was reading his nasty comments a lot of the time and most things were qurikey comments rather that honest opinions.
Everyone including the judges saw through him and he made no constructive contributions to the show.
I thought Germany was awful and couldn't hold a note.
Can't comment on Norway as I missed that one but I thought USA, England and Canada all had good voices.
The girl from Poland was a fruicake!!!
What about the " Kurt Cobain" guy????
All in all, not a brilliant show. I was disappointed.

It reminded me of Eurovision too, absolute rubbish. I did like the guy from Norway, he was really good and of course Will did well singing for the UK but I don't like "Light My Fire".

For me the star of the show was the Polish judge, he was a total prat but he did make it interesting, he even made Pete seem sensible.

I have to agree, I liked the guy from Norway (he was the one with the gap tooth, right?) I also liked Will from the UK and Kelly Clarkson, of course. I did also enjoy the guy who did Kurt Cobain. I also agree that the Polish judge was a little out there.

I missed the very end, does anyone know when the winners will be chosen?

Tiggerlover the result is announced on New Year's Day.

Terrible programme but compulsive viewing for 'Idol' fans :teeth: :teeth:

I liked the Australian guy - thought he was excellent, Kelly Clarkson was superb as was Will, although I agree he did seem a bit subdued. He didnt 'lift' his game like he usually does.

The results will be interesting - but apart from the above three I didnt think any of the others deserved to be there. Just my opinion of course :)

Well, watching the results programme on New Year's Day was definitely too much like the Eurovision Song Contest for comfort - I could not watch it all.

This year (or I should say 2003), I don't think Pop Idol or Fame Academy were as appealing as the first series - the novelty has definitely worn off for me.

Didn't get to see all the performances but watched the results and I loved that the Norweigan Idol was so modest over his win - I thought he was great.

I was pleased to hear that Michelle won over Mark in our Pop Idol but sad that it wasn't Sam :(

What song/s did Kelly Clarkson sing? She has an amazing voice and her version of The Trouble With Love from the movie Love Actually is just great.
