Regarding live TV in the parks... did they show anything to the guests during 9/11 or the couple days after?

I don't "think" so.

The interesting thing is now that precedent has been set,will Guests now "expect" live in-Park TV of

Super Bowl
College Football Playoffs
Olympics,etc.

At least as a big world football event, it fits the theme of World Showcase

There was an estimated 3.2 billion people watching the 2010 World Cup.
The 2014 games are expected to have even more viewers as the matches have been scheduled with the rest of the world audience in mind.

Sounds like WDW have taken this into account with this extra provision

On 12/31/1999 Epcot had a large screen near the American Pavillion with live feeds from NYE broadcasts around the world. Most people just sat in the walkways or stopped to watch, making walking difficult or impossible with the crowds.

After a while they changed from the broadcasts to a music video type display to get the crowds moving and not stopping to block traffic. Not the best idea to broadcast something that will draw a large crowd in a theme park. At least this is in the restaurant and out of the walkways! It will definitely be popular, and if successful (selling lots of food and drinks) I bet we see more of it.

The more I think about it,the more I wonder if "demand" is REALLY going to overwhelm "supply" during the actual time a match is being televised.

The Odyssey has a limlted capacity,but I'm sure Disney has plans on what to do if it reaches that capacity.

I am picturing The ESPN CLUB on Super Bowl Sunday and then some!

While I will enjoy experiencing The Odyssey(never got to go before it was shut down),I also lament that the "Secret Bathrooms" will not be a secret during this time!

The whole world watches World Cup, it seems fitting for it to be shown in EPCOT. I'm glad they are. If my family were there, we would definitely be watching

Not to mention, football is hella more important in other countries then it is here in the States. Disney is catering to those visiting. I think it's great

Folks this is not a nationality issue and therefore you are respectively reminded to not make that the subject of the thread.

The topic is whether the showing of a sporting event is important to your vacation, is this the thin edge of the wedge that the televising of all events will become the norm, management of people traffic will take away from the Disney bubble ?

I think this decision to show live TV in a WDW Park for the first time EVER(to my knowledge)is really,really a big deal!

Could this be the "first step" to the eventual inclusion of "Sports Bars" INSIDE the Parks?

Or will this be a one-time thing?

Or will it happen again,but just for the two MAJOR "World" sporting events-World Cup and Olympics?

So far,the other major precedent set recently at WDW,the serving of alcohol in Magic Kingdom,has not "spread" beyond BOG,so this may be a very rare thing and we may not see live TV inside a WDW Park again for a long time,if ever.

Time will tell.

Personally,I have mixed feelings about this.

I don't "think" Walt would want live TV in the Parks-he was BIG on leaving "reality" outside the gates,but it WOULD be cool to pop in Rose and Crown during College Football season and watch a few games!!!!

We will be there during the WC, this is a very big deal for our family. I am happy they are showing the game. I would not sit there all day & watch the games, but I would stop in & see what's going on. This will not matter to a ton of people, but for those that it does matter too, it's nice to see Disney accommodating them. It's not like it's being televised out in the open. If you don't know about it, you won't even know it's going on.

My husband and I are sports fans but do not get into soccer so the World Cup has little meaning to us. However, we are two people on the face of the earth and there are millions of people who love soccer. I think what Disney is doing is very good. The locale is perfect as Epcot should be appreciated for attempting to get others to experience a different country and culture X 11. Plus, it's not an outside viewing area so whoever wants to watch the games can sit down or stand up and enjoy. I don't see where the viewers are going to be ramping it up and yelling and cheering and disrupting anyone walking outside.

As for having other live sporting events, why not? In the same environment, I totally agree. Why not have a Super Bowl party? Have it at the same place and sell tickets to it. Other families can have a good time at Epcot without being bothered.

For the drinking thing, anyone can get totally wasted at Disney World 365 days a year. If a person really wanted to do that, they don't need a sporting event to get it done.

I think this is great and it really does fit with the theme of the world showcase. One world coming together!!

Plus for Disney better to have those soccer fans at Epcot than in there rooms!!

I am curious if Disney is "advertising" the TV opportunity available beginning Thursday at The Odyssey in the actual Times Guide.

The funny thing that no one has mentioned here is the television network that is televising the World Cup! ESPN folks....The World Cup is a world wide event and putting it in the World Showcase only seems to make sense to me! And oh yea, getting back to ESPN, doesn't anyone remember who owns the World Wide Network??? That's right, you guessed it if you didn't already know it......M-i-c, k-e-y, m-o-u-s-e......That's right, Disney......Go USA and I'm looking forward to seeing the impact come the week of June 23rd through July 1st!!!!
