World Cup in WDW?

In England most programmes are 3 hrs long, an hour of waffle at the start, 45mins, 15 mins for half time, another 45 mins then another 15 mins of waffle but thankfully no adverts in the game.
MJ I deeply regret any offence that I may have caused you in my unthoughtful comments but lets be honest, it's rounders played by mainly blokes pumped up on steroids :confused3

It is the biggest single sporting event and most of these teams have taken 2 years to earn the right to take part.
I am so surprised that the whole of the USA is not right behind the team, great players, great attitude and for the first time have a real chance.
C'mon MJ watch some 'paint dry', you never know you may even like it!

Actually I played soccer for a long time. I was on my town's traveling team during my youth and didn't stop until my knee surgery in High School. Its a great game.....to play. I can't watch it at all. (Although I will secretly admit that I have watched some World Cup games in the past and kind of sort of enjoyed it Yikes!)

Well then, pull up a chair, poor yourself a pint, and check out the greatest event in sports! Your countrymen are there playing for you.

And if they should fall, I'm pulling for England. If Rooney can go, they have a great shot. You'll see what I mean

I don't think so.

I enjoy watching all levels LIVE I just can't seem to get into it on TV.

I've watched a few of the mens warm-up games and will try to catch some of the games.

I even have season tickets to our Local PRO Indoor ( Blast MISL champs ) but I can't even watch them for long on TV.

I will also try to hit some DC United games this year with DD .

Well, I've started something haven't I? :goodvibes
Why is that people feel a need to put down other peoples likes? Just a thought.
I am an American who LOVES Soccer and would be very pleased if people wouldn't assume that they can speak for me (as in "The reason we don't care is that watching soccer is like watching paint dry.....). That's generalizing but I do agree with some posters remarks that corporate America and the media have alot to do with squashing interest in the game. I just hope ABC's coverage will be decent. (ESPN2 will be the other channel and should be fine).

This will be me :happytv: :cheer2: even though some of these World Cup games will be starting at 6 AM for me! (I live in California)

At least when we're at WDW June 19th-26th, I can enjoy a pint at a decent hour East Coast time while watching the games! We'll be staying at the Boardwalk so at least we'll have the ESPN club on it's premises to see the games.

The World's Finest will playing and it will be some of the best, beautiful games that you'll be seeing.

C'mon America! Even if you don't love the game ROOT FOR YOUR TEAM, FOR YOUR COUNTRY!!!!!!! :cheer2:

Ahh, the English are finally getting a look at what Americans can do in this sport. A few players are strating to make an impression over there, especially one Mr. McBride (does that name sound familiar???)

Thanks for the support wilki32, but I am sorry to say that you should be more surprised that you have found more than 1 american who even knows the world cup is taking place, no less america's participation.

Real Chance??? I would hope, but with the Czech and the Italians in the group it would be a real upset if we qualify for the knock-out stage. And even if we do qualify at 2nd place in the group, we probably get the lovely pleasure of playing...Brazil! (Not quite as fun as kicking around Mexico!)

My poking fun at soccer was just that - poking fun. No harm was intended. And of course I generalized. I was talking about the general american public who doesn't give two licks about soccer.

Thats a shame MJ, even people in this country have no interest but the majority do. Last world cup we closed our estate agents for 'staff training' one complaint from a lady (surprise) who said 'the world doesn't stop for football' my partners response 'yes it does!' Maybe we were wrong.
dbm McBride, good player but Manchester United have a good crop of young Americans Rossi being the top with Tim Howard looking like he will go on loan at Everton.
Good news for England though, not only a 6 nil win today but Rooney is back in light training

McBride is our best hope to score, we are weak up front if Eddie Johnson doesn't buck up. Donovan may play up there, but that thins the midfield out.

As always, the US chances depend on the brittle legs of Claudio Reyna and John O'Brien

Rossi has plenty of work to do before he's instrumental. Loads of talent. I'm hoping he starts playing first team football somewhere

You don't need to tell me about Tim Howard. He played his very first professional game for my local club and I have been following him ever since. He won't be the man this time around, but I certainly am thrilled he will get a chance to cut his teeth with Everton. He has amazing talent, but needs to toughen back up. ManU has a way of overwhelming folks.

Could you guys move this thread to the "Who Gives a Dang" board?

I'm always surprised by those who seem to just want to be negative to others in whose discussion and thread it obviously brings great joy to.

I don't get it, if you don't like the thread, start your own, if people want to talk about the World Cup, as I started this to be , then let us be!

I would never dis those who asked sincerely about baseball or basketball coverage at WDW and found others interested in it also. I'd skip those threads and posts if it didn't interest me. Why must you be so negative to something that obviously brings joy to others?

If only I could have gotten in on marketing for the World Cup & WDW, I'd have a t-shirt with Mickey and a soccer ball that morphs from the globe into a soccer ball with the Epcot lands somehow worked into the design. One World, One Game, something like that! They really missed the boat on this one!! Maybe I'll make my own for my trip to WDW June 19th!

dbm and I have a history on this board. The post was a kindly jibe in his direction. No offense was meant to anyone. In fact, in an earlier post I noted how I used to play soccer and watched the last cup, so.

And I skip posts and threads that don't interest me either so there.

I think its a shame that soccer gets a bum rap in the US. All these attitudes about soccer being boring, and easy etc. These comments come from those who have never played soccer and have no idea of the skill involved and YES soccer IS a contact sport! I find baseball and golf so incredibly boring compared to soccer

Now if you want to see boring come to England and watch cricket! Takes 5 days to finish the game, now MJ thats watching paint dry!

At the risk of offending Tammy again :confused3 , I played soccer for years and find it somewhat boring to watch, especially non-World Cup soccer. And this is comming from someone who loves baseball.
