Working on Weight Loss During Training--Wk of 11/19

Mini victory to report! I'm down to where I was when I started to get serious with my weight. That means I'm down 1/2 a pound since we started this! I know it doesn't seem like much, but it means I'm moving in the right direction!!! Now, I somehow need to lose 2 more poinds in a month to get to wher I was for marathon last year. It's really tought for me to lose even 1 opound a month, so I have some serious work to do.

Thansk to everyone who's helping me stay on track!

Great job Carrie!

I haven't had much to post....good news/bad news, depending on how you look at it. I haven't gained/lost anything, but have been eating everything in sight. It seems like every day there is food out at work, and it is SO hard to avoid. So I guess it's good that I haven't gained anything, but discouraging that with all the miles I've walked/wogged I haven't lost anything.....I think I am going to have to wear blinders at work!

Carrie - that's great news! :cool1: The reason it's easier for me to lose is because I have so much to lose. :sad2: You said you still want to lose 2 more lbs. Is there something you could give up - just for a month - that will help you reach this goal? Obviously, more exercising won't help at this point. :teeth:

Pat - :thumbsup2 There are times that not gaining will make me happy. :teeth: It's especially hard to lose when people at work bring in all these goodies around the holidays.

First of all thanks to everyone for the congrats! I know it doesn’t seem like much but having jeans that don’t make me feel like I’m stuffed into a sausage sleeve feels so good! Then last night I was packing for my trip to Florida tomorrow and faced the music by trying on some shorts and guess what….. they fit!!!!!!!! I am going to try to remember that awesome feeling so I don’t cheat during my trip. Here’s hoping!

Cam – Although I’m sad to here you are back to having more tests I am thrilled that your doctor seems like such a great guy! Nothing makes the scary feel better than having someone you feel is on your side.

Sunny – I am constantly amazed but the crap that so called doctors say to people. You’d think that they DR would have been upbeat about the exercise instead of trying to bring you down. I am so thankful to here that it seems like you’ve found a good one now!

On the car I ended up and bought a little gas economical Ford Focus. Nothing special but since I drive 45min to work each way I needed something that wouldn’t kill me in gas mileage.

NCR –
Hope your doing much better today.

Jen – 120 laps – eeck!!!!!!! Hope you have some good music planned for that one.

Susie –
What a great challenge! We can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carrie – That amount may seem small but it is better than an increase! I know you can do 2 pounds – I am sure of it! Have a plan and stick with us and we’ll be here cheering you on all the way!

Pat – Work is the hardest place anymore to keep on track. From all the ordering out for lunch to all the goodies being brought in during this time of the year it is amazing we all haven’t gained a ton. I’ve been trying to bring something in with me OP so I don’t eat the crap on the counters!

Today I made a “mock Danish” for breakfast and will have a salad of some sort for lunch. Then left over ziti turkey bake for dinner while we finish packing.

I will be around today and then gone until Sunday night. I will try to check in and see how you are all doing from the airports. WISHing all of you an OP week!

Hey Carrie - I am a penguin runner and turtle loser. I lose weight so slow that it's pathetic. I am estatic that I lost 30 pounds this year (when most people in my situation lost 60-70). I am now getting very close to my pre-PG weight, then I can concentrate on losing more. I have discovered that I will never ever be a skinny minny, so I will take what I can get!!! You can lose those 2 pounds, I know you can. I want to lose 5-6.... yikes. Not sure how that will work with a trip to Vegas and the holidays mixed in there.

Last night my downfall was chips. BUT, I ate fewer than normal. Then I went to bed. I did almost 40 minutes on the elliptical for my cross training and I was so hungry when I got home. I need to work on that!

Have a great day everyone.

Carrie & Minnie - WOO HOO!!!

(I have nothing good to report...so off to do more goo-stalking-preparedness... :tiptoe: )

Way to go Carrie! I'm the same way, it takes me forever just to loose one pound....I've been trying to get out of the 190's forever and a day...sometimes I see 189, then "poof", the next day it's back to 190! Grrrrr.

I love it when I can wear clothes that were too small last year. Keep up the good work. :cloud9:

Pat - I am very thankful that I work in a very small office and the manager is not a snacking/sweets person. :confused3 The main office has doighnuts every Friday and will be filled with goodies. Not having them around helps. Good luck!!! BTW, I think no gain right now is a huge victory!

Jen - Slow and steady wins the race. :goodvibes I was really happy with 1 pound a month last year for about 3 months. Just wish I hadn't fallen off the wagon.

Thanks for the suggestion about giving up one thing. I need to figure out what that might be now.

Here's the dilema I was thinking of this morning. I need to post my solution so that I will follow through. Christmas morning: Now, typically I go with the "It's CHristmas" attitude, but I need to stick to my guns this year. I will be at my ILs. I truly love X-mas mornign there. It's one of 2 times a year I enjoy Quality Family Time (QFT as my BIL says) with the ILs. However, they do not eat breakfast. i cannot do that. I would be worse than the Scrooge. So, I typically sneak a bunch of cookies that ware awaiting transportation to grandmas. We open gifts, that's the fun part (sounds superficial, but it's wonderful to watch everyone). Then, it's off to Grandma #1. We are not there long enough to eat, though. Then we go to Grandma#2 (and grandpa). We'll, I'm getting hungry by then and she always has Hershey miniatures out. Yeah, Start my day with cookies and continue on to candy. WTG. All justified so that I don't get grumpy, and I must admit hat I start to. I still odn't understand why we have to go to bobth houses when we saw tehm both at dinner teh night before and every stop takes away from time with my family, who I miss terribly by this time. So, again, I make myself happy with candy.

If I'm doing well, I will have a healthier snack in teh car for the drive time, then I hit the appetizers at mom's big time.

My problem is that I really have to sneak food. I cannot have a bowl of ceral as there's no time or space in teh kitchen. 12 adults and 3 children have to open gifts, get ready and be to grandma's by 10. So, I need something I can eat while changing or something.

My plan is to eat what I would on a work day. A Quaker Breakfast Cookie while getting ready and cheese and crackers for the ride down to mom's. Now, I just have to stick with it. I think that if I could eb good in teh am, that will help me to keep my streak going in the pm. If anyone's made it htrough this ramble, please give yourself a gold star. :teeth:

First of all, Carrie, congrats on the loss and I am sure you can lose those other 2 in the next 5 weeks. I will send you pixiedust: and good weight loss :goodvibes:
Next, I get a gold star. I not only made it through your post, but I understand and sympathize and have some suggestions. This is what worked for me on our 2 trips to Pittsburgh -- I got a small cube shaped cooler bag and put a frozen water bottle in the bottom. Then, I added fresh crisp apples, some washed baby carrots in a ziplock bag, some peeled hard-boiled eggs, a couple of individually wrapped slices of fat free cheese, and a banana. Separate from that I had popped a bag of 94% popcorn and put it in a ziplock bag. I felt like I had so many goodies waiting for me in the car that it was easy to munch on those things as we went from house to house or the funeral home or whereever. I hope that helps. It's funny, planning the food and having it was kind of fun, like I was spoiling myself in a situation where I'd otherwise feel deprived.

I am so happy for all our WISHers who made it through yesterday with fewer slips than normal. Everyone is doing great! Jen -- good job on cutting yourself off on the chips and heading to bed.

Minnie -- would you be willing to share the recipe for your mock danish? That sounds intriguing and delicious!

I really think the accountability I find here kept me on track last night.

Okay -- here is my challenge to myself for tonight. I am going to stay on core for the rest of the day. Even if I earn activity points at the gym, I am not going to eat any non-core foods.

So, I ate an apple and 2 slices of fat free cheese on the way to the gym. When I got home (I won't tell you how pathetic my workout was without music or water or powerade or fuel  ), I ate leftover skinless turkey while I cooked a baked sweet potato and had that with a piece of lean steak. YUM!

Today, on the way in to the office, I stopped and bought some bagged lettuce, shredded wheat and 94%FF popcorn. I'll be sure to eat before I leave the office tonight so that I can get in a real TM workout.

Plan for today:
B: coffee with skim milk (I had to fast for a chest CT Scan with contrast, so as soon as I could after leaving the imaging center, I got coffee to tie me over)
S (when I am hungry will be): shredded wheat with skim milk
L: green salad w/lean steak & olive oil
S: banana
Pre-gym: 94% FF popcorn

What's your plan? :thumbsup2

Congrats Cam! Thanks for the good ideas. You do deserve a huge glod star! Maybe I'll do some SF finger jello. That's a huge treat for me! I was just drawing a blank.

OK, just went back and re-emtered info into my Palm. If I can stay on plan (the plan I've had for over a month ), which is eating about 300 less calories than I burn off, I will be down 3 pounds by marathon.

My goal today? Log those calories!!! It's owrked fo rem before, but somehow I get a mental black and stop. It's pretty easy when the program's in my Palm, so I just have to stick with it! Weekends too! That's when I'm the worst.

Sure Cam! It tastes like I'm eating something sinful but it is on my SBD plan. It is also very filling.

“Mock Danish”

1/2 cup low-fat ricotta (do not use Sargento’s) or cottage cheese (I prefer ricotta)
1 egg (or ¼ cup egg beaters)
1 to 2 tsps. Splenda
Dash of cinnamon (I like extra)
Cap full of vanilla
Few slivers of no-trans-fat margarine
Few small chunks of cream cheese substitute or low-fat/fat-free cream cheese
Sprinkle of brown sugar Splenda

In a microwave-safe bowl, thoroughly blend 1/2 cup low-fat ricotta or cottage cheese with 1 egg (or ¼ cup egg beaters). Drop in a few slivers of no-trans-fat margarine, and a few small chunks of cream cheese substitute or low-fat/fat-free cream cheese. Sprinkle top with a small amount of brown sugar substitute and 1 tsp. or so of chopped nuts (if you prefer).

Microwave until thoroughly set (4-5 minutes) and then I top with small amount of sf syrup.

The ricotta needs to be blended very well in order not to be gritty. I use a stick hand blender I bought for less than $10 that works like a charm. Easy clean up as well.

I mix this up either in the morning or the night before and refrigerate. Then when I’m ready for breakfast at work I simply microwave and enjoy.

“Penne Turkey Bake”1 pound of ground turkey (could you lf hamburger)
1 box of ww penne pasta
1 jar low sugar spaghetti sauce
½ cup of water
1 package of lf Italian or mozzarella cheese

Pan fry ground turkey. Boil pasta according to direction. In a 9x12 baking dish place pasta in bottom, add jar of sauce, ½ cup of water, and ground turkey. Mix thoroughly then add package of lf cheese to top. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes (watch cheese you may need to place foil on top to keep it from browning too much).

Both are quick easy and part of my SBD plan.

Both of those recipes sound awesome. I have to try them this weekend. I still need to try Kristi's core skillet lasagna, too, which I have not yet had time to cook up.

Carrie - I was going to suggest a cereal bar or something like that. How about some fruit - grapes maybe in a baggie. Grapes would be easier to eat on the sly, rather than an apple or orange. Since we were threatened with being fired if we had any food or drink in the control room at work, I usually sneak in my contraband baggie of grapes and keep them hidden in my drawer so I can snack during the show. :teeth: I am even more cranky if I am hungry, so I figure it's worth it for my co-workers! ;)

Cam gave you lots of great ideas! There is no way in heck I could wait that long to eat. I have a problem waiting the one hour after I wake up since I have medicines that have to be taken on an empty stomach every day.

Carrie - When I travel alone I bring along peanut butter and bread. Put the bread in a tupperware container so it doesn't get squished. You can also use English Muffins. The PB holds me over better than breakfast bars.

I also agree on the fruit. Whole apples don't need to be refrigerated.

My problems with Christmas is that we have so many gatherings in just a few days times. Usually 3-4 in 2 days. That's a lot of big meals. I will definately make sure I am working out on these days, even if it is an exercise video. I will need it.

You find time to work out Jen? We leave by 10 or 11 am Christmas Eve morning (lst year we did do our 10-miler before this), this year we'll have to hit church before we go, then we do not stop until anywher from 11 pm to 3 am Christmas Eve night, and don't stop until 9 or 10 Chirstmas night, get up for sales, eat breakfast and have 1 to 3 hours before we leave for my aunts. Home by 10 or 11 (mom and dad's) and leave for our real home teh next morning. :faint: That would be 3 big dinners in 3 days. Ugh.

So much for my best intentions of going to the Y tonight. I am so nauseous and woozy, and I think it is from the contrast dye they used for the CT Scan this morning. Definitely heading home instead of to work out.

Hope everyone has a great evening.
My goal: only core foods, to the extent I can eat at all.

Carrie - Prior to being married there was no way I could workout. But now that I am married with kids, it is much easier. My in-laws live about a 45 minute drive. My parents live about 30 minute drive. My parents bring my grandfather to their house so we don't have to drive halfway across the state to visit (he is my only living grandparent). My daughter has a christmas performance at church so we really can't travel too much. So, if I get up super early, I can work out!!!!! We start celebrating on the 23rd with Little Yule. My SIL is Danish and this is a big tradition. Then Christmas eve is lunch at in-laws, Evening Christmas at church, then another dinner. Christmas Day is at my parents with again too much food. Oh and this year on the 22nd is our work party. Errrggg... that is 4 days of food!!!

Cam - I hope you feel better soon!!!!

I hope you are feeling better, Cam!

Now, the important question...did the CT scan make you feel like you wet your pants? :rotfl: I think that is the funniest thing with that test & would not believe it unless I've had it done myself!

Thanks, Jen and Kristi. Feeling only marginally better today. Spent from 7:30 pm until 6:30 am in the fetal position in bed moaning in pain. UGH! Haven't eaten anything since popcorn yesterday afternoon and am now going to force myself to drink some water.

And, yes, Kristi that "warm sensation in the pelvic region" was bizarre. I am glad the tech warned me! :rotfl:

I won't even tell you how much the scale was down today. Very strange that I can skip one meal and evening snacks and see a huge difference on the scale. I just wish it would stay gone.

My plan for today? No idea. Going to force water and we'll see how it goes beyond that.

Good Morning... Yesterday was HORRIBLE, beyond horrble eating. Today I am back on track!!!!

Cam - Oh dear, I hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:

Tonight I am running the indoor track because we are in negative wind chills right now. Winter is officially here, I think it was just teasing before. DD6 is going with me and sitting on the bench with her LeapPad while I run. She is such a good sport!!!

Eating... I had a low sodium tuna sandwich for breakfast with some coffee and water. I didn't get a chance to eat a normal breakfast at home. Lunch, I have a meeting, so I will eat something healthy when I return. Dinner, Chili is cooking in the crock pot... YUM!

Have a great day all!
