Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Ok where the heck is everyone?

HELLO OUT THERE!

Here is an interesting article on fast food. Scroll down to the outtakes on the right side, they are funny.

We did a 6 mile LSD today, getting Erica back in the swing of walking again. Dang it's been a rough year for her. Any way it was very pleasent having company even with high humidity. Summer in Southern Ky is muggy.

Hi Everyone, I've been so busy having fun this weekend, I haven't had much time for DISing. Hope everyone else had a great weekend.

I went for a fabulous run yesterday. I was a bit worried heading out since it was very warm and I had already done 2 hours of yard work so I thought I would be very tired. I headed for some trails that are about 2 mi from my house. I practically had the whole place to myself. I saw one group of hikers, 2 mtn bikers and one lady walking her dog. It was very peaceful and beautiful. I had such fun running there. I had to slow way down since there were a lot of tree roots and rocks and mud, but it was such a great time. One part of the trail brings you to the highest point in my town from which you can see 30 miles east to the skyline of Boston. It was so pretty. The loop I did was about 3 miles. I wasn't tired at all. What fun!!

Maria: Great job on getting out for your run. Just to be out there doing it is great. Have confidence, that if you continue with your training plan you WILL BE ABLE to accomplish what you've set as your goal. January is still a long time from now. And since you did already run 2.6mi there is no question that you'll be able to finish your 5K in a couple weeks. Don't even worry about your pace for now. You will get faster as you get fitter (& slimmer). How did your run go today?

Dave: Great job on your fast intervals. You are definately on track for your race. Glad you were able to enjoy a long walk with Erica today. Hope you enjoyed your steak.

Hi everyone :yay:

After being so motivated and doing so well I have to admit I fell off the wagon. The weather's been awful so I haven't been able to get any exercise and I've ate way tooooo much of everything  :sad1:

I'm not going to let this drag me down the way it did last time though. Tomorrow I'm right back on the wagon. If I give excuses for not eating or exercising tomorrow PLEASE give me a kick!

Visual, all the WISH team stretching out a hand to grab Minnie as the wagon rolls past and pulling her back up for group hugs. Then bringing her to the center of the group to keep warm and safe from falling anymore.

My lady Erica and I are off to do our LSD again. We want to get out early before the heat and humidity get to uncomfortable. Then we might go see the Pirates of the Caribbian.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

I am getting back on the wagon too! I did ok at the lake.
There was a run-in with a 1/4 bag of cheese doodles though. :rolleyes1

I didn't get any exercise since I got the sunburn from heck and couldn't handly stand, nevermind walk/run. BUT, since I did nothing much but watch tv & cross stitch on Sunday, I did drink well over 64 oz. of water while I was sitting around. And I was pretty good all weekend considering the junk that was around.

Back on track today!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are driving your own wagons!

Yesterday I took Dave's advice and did a run/walk for 5.2 miles. I ran for three songs and then walked for one, and what a difference it made! My time was even better.:confused3 I also did the bike 45 minutes this morning, almost 11 miles. I plan a strength workout for later today.

I have become addicted to Sparkpeople. I spend way too much time earning points, but I guess it's all for the good. I will have great health and less of me to show for it!

My eating is getting better, too. Now I can see my fat/carb/protein mix, I can tell I eat way too many carbs and not enough protein. I'm working to improve that, which should help my running.

Kristi -- I hope the sunburn is better today, and you enjoyed your restful weekend. Your water consumption sounds great. :goodvibes

Dave -- Let us know what you think of Pirates 3, and enjoy your LSD!:cool1:

Minnie -- It's ok, we're here to pick you up and keep going!:grouphug: Hopefully the weather will improve. :umbrella:

Cindy -- My long run felt awesome! The running/walking combination felt terrific. I really liked being outside. :flower1:

Jen -- How do you balance DIS and Sparkpeople? I'm going to need a strategy...;)

Cam -- I know you had a crazy weekend. I hope this week is peaceful.:rose:

Ok, here's a work challenge I don't face every day...the street in front of our building is being repaired, and we do not have any water in the building. That means no bathrooms...so we have to hike next door to our main facility if we feel the urge. And, the bathroom on the 2nd floor there is being repaired, so you have to keep going up. At least that building has an elevator. I'm on the 4th floor in a building without one. It makes you think twice before you head down the 66 stairs, because you're going to have to come back up...I know, it's crosstraining!:rotfl:

Everyone have an awesome day!
Maria

Hi, everyone!
I am getting inspired again, reading about everyone's exercise efforts and their diligence about watching what goes in the mouth.
I had a disastrous 4 day eating binge, starting with taking a friend to dinner on Friday, then a luncheon on Saturday; buffalo chicken pizza & antipasto Saturday night; barbecue Sunday, then a reception Sunday night. Yesterday at home was no better, except that I do now have a ton of healthy food in the fridge to grab for quick meals and for lunches.
Back on the wagon today with all too many pounds to take off AGAIN.
I think what I have to do is make up a training calendar for CDC and to track on it my diet goals as well as my exercise goals. Seeing it all in black and white should help me get on track and stay on track.

Maria - My days get busy. I mostly DIS during the day and Spark it at night. Tho, sometimes I do both, just for quick periods. It all depends on my workload and motivation!!!

I did a lot of gardening this weekend, but really need to get back into running. Haven't been feeling up to it since the 1/2 marathon last week. My allergies are rotten too, so lots of head pain. I think I should focus on running for enjoyment instead of for training. I get burned out from making sure I get in all my workouts. Does this happen to anyone else?

OK, so I have been on a no full strength soda kick. I am doing pretty well, but I am not sure it is helping me that much. I think I need to up my water more too.

The New Pirates movie is by far the best of the three, and it is set up for a sequal. Fans of the swachbuckling Capt Jack will love it. Darn I wanna be a pirate.

Maria, glad to hear that the walk run is working for you, now I'm sure you can envision completing the Donald. Your comment about driving the wagon was very thought provoking.

Cam, tomorrow is a fresh new day.

Kristi, good news that your steering your wagon straight.

Jen, allergies do suck.

Have a great day y'all.

Today was good:
1057 calories taken in
420 calories burned at gym. 4.31 miles in 60 minutes (13:55 pace)

Heading upstairs to do my 100 crunches and 100 push ups, then climbing into bed with a good book.

Nice job Cam.

I did my 4 mile hill route in the heat and humidity and was disappointed at the time. I need to get acclimated to the heat and the muggyness.

Are we obsessed with our health and exercise programs?

I don't think so. I think we have just made a decision the we are going to live our one life to the max. We are not satisfied to just watch others play we wanna play to. We made a decision to expect more from our bodies than just to stay alive, we want them strong and able to do anything we require them to do, and to do it for all our years.

Have a wonderful day filled with happiness.

Dave:hippie:

Right on, Dave. As I said yesterday on the weekly training thread: I thank God every day for my healthy, strong body. I believe I owe it to Him to keep it healthy and strong. I may not always make the best choices but I am doing the best that I can most of the time! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Minnie: How are you doing today? Are you back to being healthy?

Kristi: Hope the sunburn is better.

Maria: I definately think Sparkpeople is a great site. I just don't find the time to do that plus DISing plus training plus all the other every day stuff. Glad the r/w has helped. Good luck with all those stairs at work.

Cam: Sorry your eating wasn't as healthy as you wanted. Glad you're back on track.

Dave: Glad you enjoyed the movie. I do think I have become obsessed with being healthier. Especially the exercise part. I think about it all the time. There are some days when I'm not excited to get out for my run, but most days I can't wait. I think it's because for the last few years I've just been so busy with my kids/job/life that I couldn't find the time to do it and I really missed it. Now that I've found a way to fit it in to my life I really appreciate it. And it's not such a bad thing to be obsessed with. It's not illegal, immoral or extremely expensive (sort of).

WI this week: I lost another 1/2 lb. I'm happy with it considering I didn't count points over the weekend. I decided that I didn't have to count as long as I made healthier choices. I bought turkey burgers and chicken dogs to cook along side the "real" burgers and dogs. I tried to fill up on fruit and veggies. I did have a few cookies and brownies too. I was at a picnic afterall.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Hello guys and pretty ladies of the WISH team.

Did you know that a frog can't backup? They are all relentless forward motion. So lets learn a lesson from the frog and go forward, don't look back, what's behind us don't matter. "CHARGE".

They ain't seen the best of us yet!

Hi Everyone!

I'm sorry I have been spending so much time learning Sparkpeople, I haven't been posting as much as I would like.

I had set of goal of losing 5 lbs. by June 1st, and I lost 5.5! I am really excited, and feel like I finally have some forward momentum.

Yesterday I ran outside for my 2.6 mi run/walk, and today I walked to "Supersize Me". What an eye opener. Fast food will kill you! Next weekend is my first 5K, so I'm starting to get nervous. I plan to train as I normally would this week, and that will be my long run on Saturday. From what I've read you don't need to taper for a 5K...

Dave, Cindy, Jen, Cam, Kristi, Minnie -- Thanks for keeping this thread going. I still find the weekly run/walk one pretty intimidating, because I can't possibly keep up. This gives me a place to post with my specific health goals, and I also get fantastic advice from people who are on the same path!

So, next up, I want to lose a total of 10 lbs. by June 15th. It's a little aggressive, but I'm hoping with using Sparkpeople and just being a little more active, I can do it. Even if I don't exactly make it, the trying will only bring good things.

Gotta run to ds's chorus concert!
Maria

Maria -- I think it is awesome to have a goal and it is okay to set an ambitious goal as long as you don't allow your self to become discouraged if you don't quite get there.

As for me, I am back again after another disastrous food weekend. I am sure you are all sick of hearing the same old song from me. I am really well on track every weekday but weekends are just so easily sacrificed. Our friend who was visiting from Australia left yesterday and while she visited we had all sorts of great food and entertained many other friends at our house. It was great fun and after we took her to the airport yesterday we went to see PoTC3 and I didn't restrain myself from eating candy or popcorn. Last night was leftovers (and too many of them).
Of course, I woke up this morning with great regret and tremendous resolve. I seem to be "maintaining" really well but am going to follow Maria's lead of setting a weight loss goal for this month. I am going to get down in the next "decade" -- since I haven't stepped on a scale since Friday, I am not sure how many pounds that is, but it could be anywhere from 3.5-9, depending on how much my body has held on to from the weekend. I should be able to get back to the point where it is only 5 pounds or so to meet my goal and the 3 16-hour days I'll have this week working on my feet for special olympics may help me burn some extra calories.

Maria -- Thank you for the inspiration!

Dave-- I have a visual of me as a big, fat, LIME GREEN frog, making my way forward, even if I don't do it in leaps and bounds!

Good Afternoon!

This morning I had to stay home so we could get our oil burner cleaned out (no more cold weather allowed until Autumn), so I had a little extra time. It is pouring here, so I did just over 3 mi on the TM. I was really glad to get my workout in early in the day.

I am definitely much more aware of what I'm eating from typing it into Sparkpeople. I could just do this by making a list, but for some reason entering it on the computer makes me more responsible about doing it.

Anyway, I was able to put in my entire day's food this morning, so all I have to do is stick with it. That seems to be a good strategy for me.

Cam -- I totally get where you are coming from. Weekends are nuts! I don't drink as much water, because I'm not tied to a desk with a giant mug in front of me. I eat things I wouldn't consider, because I don't pack them in my lunch bag. And I have a relaxed mentality, so things start to slide. I once read a quote about character being what you do when no one can see you, and it's a good motivator. This personal accountability stuff is hard work!:rotfl:

And now for some exciting news -- I just found out that the opening speaker at my professional development conference next Autumn is the Disney Institute! Woohoo!:woohoo: If only it was in Orlando instead of Arlington, VA! If only I wasn't freaked because I plan to take a test for professional credentialling...no matter. I plan to be as ready as I can for the test, so hopefully I will still get to enjoy the conference. Unfortunately, the test is at the end, so I'll probably spend the entire time on pins and needles. More about that later. For now I'm just going to be Disney dreaming. Think I can wear my crocs with Disney Jibbitz to the business meeting?:rotfl2:

Everybody have an awesome day and hang in there!
Maria

HI everyone. I really don't post too much from work because my computer was/is being compromised. Long story that I can't divulge at the moment... and no I haven't been doing anything wrong.

So I thought I would post quick since I will be quite busy tonight and most likely won't get on the 'puter.

I am back down a pound... so I am back where I was when I was on a losing streak. Now I need to keep going.

Maria - Are you a walker, runner, or run/walker? Congrats on the loss!!!!! Way To Go!!

Cam - Weekends are Evenings kill me. I am like Maria and don't get my water in unless I make a good effort. I usually have to fill my 32 ounce mug and leave it on the cupboard to remind me. Oh and the mindless nibbling... UGHHHH!!! I think it is a lack of willpower for me, but who knows. For right now I will blame it on the kids!!!

Dave - that is an interesting tidbit about frogs.

Hey guys, sounds like everyone is doing great today.

My lady and I had a wonderful 8 mile walk this morning. The temp was warm but there was a nice cool breeze the whole way and lower humidity. This was one of those days that reminds you why you do it.

Then we went to Red Lobster for lunch. I had blackened catfish, steamed veggies, plain baked potato and a salad with extra tomatos and no crotons. Erica got (ugg) coconut shrimp.

Have a wonderful evening.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm feeling a bit uninspired these days. I think I've just realized how long it is going to take me to get to my goal weight. I've been losing at least a little weight each week, so I am like the frog moving forward, but it just seems a bit overwhelming right now. I know I'm not supposed to be on a "diet" but making a life style change, but I'm getting tired of counting pts and measuring portions. I'm looking for some ways to get inspired. Any suggestions?

Dave: I'm glad the humidity has lessened.

Maria: Good job on using Sparkpeople.

Jen: Congrats on starting to lose again.

Cam: Good luck with achieving the next decade. Have fun at the Special Olympics. It's good of you to volunteer.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy
