Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

hey girls!

Maria: I do think the best thing is always to face facts and don't miss a weigh in. It's difficult to drag yourself to the scale when you think you are facing a gain, but I think it's good to get back on track to have a loss the next week. Our friend Nancy does have the other view though ..... "why should I pay, when I gained". I do see it both ways. I truly believe that weight loss is 80% mental, and I feel better facing my demons! We are all different though....

I went on Thursday expecting the worst, but for some reason the scale Gods were kind! You just never know.....

Tandy: Good luck with the party! And I am glad you had a pain free run!

Jeanne: Congrats on winning the week! No matter what the loss, it's all good!

AFM: I picked up a container of soy vanilla milk to try as my new food this week. I don't think I will be a fan, but I need a new food to try! I will let you know if I like it or not!

Beth

Ok, back from my meeting -- I'm calling it a NSV since I went back. I gained 3 lb, which is pretty scary, but I'm actually not that upset. I view it as that week is truly over. I came home and ran 3M and took a shower, and now I'm having fresh pineapple and a homemade (3 pt) banana muffin, and thinking about going to Hallmark to pick up a new Vera Bradley Weekender for my Dad's birthday party. I'm hoping they have simply violets, I think that is the pattern I'm most "feeling" right now. But, you never know once I get in the store!

We also have to take Spock for his first check-up, and we need to get to marathon sports to use Dennis's 20% off coupon on Boston Marathon gear. He wants a jacket, and I think he should have one. Don't worry, he wouldn't buy the qualifier stuff since he didn't! We also need to plan the menu and go grocery shopping. It's a busy day, but once we're done I promised Ben we'd watch an MST3K movie. I got it from netflix, I think it's called "Space Prince", or some such thing.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend -- gotta get moving on all the chores!

Maria :upsidedow

Just popping in to ask if anyone has thought about next January's Disney races? I understand there is a special Donald medal for the 15th anniversary and I have never done the Donald. Then I figure since I am already down there, I should do the inaugural Chip n Dale......
Please share your plans with me.

Jeanne - If only I knew... Annie keeps saying she's going to do the Disney college program next spring, and I kinda thought that if she were going to be there already that we might go back and do one of the races in January. Then she said she doesn't know if she'll be there that early in the semester... then she started thinking about maybe applying for the Indy internship again that she didn't get this year and forgoing Disney... every time I think she's definitely decided, she wavers. I don't think we'll go in January unless she's there, but... and if she does go for the entire semester, then I may try to do the entire spring lineup of races and visit her several times. I'd like to do the relay and get the Chip or Dale, since I have all the others, but that's the one with "limited availability," so I can't exactly wait forever for her to decide. Children! (Maria - it doesn't matter what their age, apparently!)

Maria - I like that. The week that is truly over. Looking at my workout log, it certainly seems that there is a clear break from one week to another. I was doing great, then I stopped completely, and now I'm back. And I feel so much better! :rolleyes1 I did fall off the wagon yesterday - woke up with my stomach feeling icky again, so I put my fruit and yogurt in the fridge when I got to work since looking at it made my feel green all over, ate Bojangles chicken for lunch (yeah, I know, makes no sense at all, but the fries and biscuit were so, so yummy), and had a pbj for dinner last night. Not a trace of dairy, fruit, or veggie in the entire day. (Does grape jelly count as a fruit?) And absolutely, Dennis should have a jacket. Bill's goal this year is to qualify. He made some comment about not knowing if he'd actually run if he did, and I told him if he qualified he'd absolutely run it (assuming he could get in, once they change the registration process.)

Beth - I stared at the soy milk at the grocery store, but couldn't bring myself to actually put it in the cart. Something about the look from my husband when he opened the fridge and wondered if I'd bumped my head on something! How are you feeling after the shot?

Tandy
- I'm waiting for recipes. They sound yummy! Which reminds me that I have to cook tonight. Part of my commitment to actually prepare the dishes that I bought the food for at the grocery store, so as to not throw things away... Did you run with Harrison today?

Assuming I don't burn myself out with my renewed commitment... I ran on the TM Thursday night, did my pushups, and did my set of hip exercises from the PT. Friday night I did 40:00 on the bike and upper body weights, and my pushups. This morning while Bill ran a 5K, I ran 2 miles and then walked another .36 for a total of 30 minutes. The hip was tender, but when I got back, my massage therapist had students giving 5 minute mini-massages, so I got a quick sports massage. If only I could do that after every workout! The only thing left is to ice the PF - will do that while watching the NCAA semi's tonight.

Jackie

Jackie: You sound much more mentally together this weekend! Great for you! It's easy to get into a pattern of working hard and then, just completely slacking. I do it often!:thumbsup2 Getting out of that pattern is the hard part. :lmao:

Jeanne: I would LOVE to go in January and do Goofy again, but it's just not in the cards for me this year. We have to go to Europe next summer, and my husband would freak out about 2 super expensive trips. Plus, the guys didn't have a very good time because of all my running stuff. :guilty:

Maria: Sounds like you're back on track too. :thumbsup2 Dennis should definitely get the jacket! Someday I will have one too! ;)

Beth: The milk is fine as long as you don't expect it to taste like milk. It's more like dessert milk. Maybe, you could try some kind of smoothie with it with fruit and greek yogurt or something?

AFM: Dinner went great. They loved my healthy recipes, especially the veggies. We did have 3 bottles of wine and some Grey Goose, but hey, the food was healthy!

Here are the 2 recipes:

Cracked Pepper Linguine:
8 oz fat free sour cream (I used plain greek yogurt)
1 Tbsp fat free milk
1 Tbsp cracked pepper
1 Tbsp reduced calorie margarine
1/4 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups hot cooked linguine
2 Tbsp grated fresh parmesean (I used at least 2 times as much)
1 1/2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley

1. Combine sour cream, milk, and pepper in small bowl. Stir and set aside.
2. Melt margarine in skillet, over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, saute for 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Add pasta and sour cream mixture and toss well. Sprinkle with parm cheese and parsley.

Okra, Tomato and Zucchini Medley
Cooking spray
1 small zucchini, halved lengthwise and sliced
1 1/2 cups fresh sliced okra (I used okra that was sliced and frozen from my garden.)
2 Tbsp chopped onion
1 cup chopped tomato
1 tsp minced fresh or 1/4 tsp dried basil
same measurements of thyme
dash of black pepper

Coat skillet with cooking spray. Place over medium high heat until hot. Add zucchini, okra and onion. Saute for 4 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and remaining ingredients. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes (I cooked it about 10)

See, super easy and healthy!!!

Harrison and I got our run in today. We did 30 minutes (week off) and he did more mileage than the last time he ran 30 minutes! I don't think I told you guys, but he had to run the bases at baseball practice and he beat all the kids. They went around 6 times without stopping and he was the only one that looked ready to go longer! I had a proud moment.

We went shopping for his girlfriend's birthday today. :scared1: $50 locket, which is crazy to me, but he's so excited. It was originally $150, so he thinks he's big stuff. He also wanted a new shirt and new shoes so he looked good on Monday when he gives it to her! He at least picked out running shoes. We got the new Reebok Zig crazy looking shoes that the kids are wearing now. I spent more on his running shoes than I do on mine, because I shop sales for myself. I guess we're all having one of those weeks with our kiddos, aren't we?

Good morning Ladies!

How was your weekend? I actually got away for the first time since the beginning of December! We just went to a resort in MD for an over-night. The Hyatt started a new promotion, and my husband is really into earning free nights, so we just went for a small break. It was nice, free laundry (which I took advantage of!), free breakfast, and a very nice gym! I am glad to report staying in control of the eating (taking along a load of fruit!). My scale was down this morning! (((((just hoping it stays down for the weigh-in tomorrow!)))))

Maria: Good for you! It's difficult to get on that darn scale when you know it's bad news.....that is definitely a NSV!

Jackie: How is work going? Any better?

Tandy: The girlfriend thing kills me! I haven't had to shop yet, but hear through the grapevine that the little ds is a lady 'killer'! We will have to see how that goes! Thanks for the recipes!

AFM: I RAN yesterday (((((don't tell anyone!))))) I figure that I see the ortho doc the end of the month, so I have to know if I can run or if it looks like surgery is the way to go. All of this production is that I can run again, so it's about time to figure it out. I was a little scared at first.....thinking I would be in pain, but it wasn't too bad. I am sore in my left hip, since my foot strike is off (toe issue makes my strike that foot to hard). I just will have to see how it goes. I don't plan to run more than 2 or 3 times a week, and never 2 days in a row. That's the plan for right now, at least!

Eating is right on. I have been really good about staying in my points daily, using some weekly points, but still not eating exercise points. I am measuring everything (which is really a new experience for me!) and keeping to the one plate of dinner rule. As long as the scale continues to go down, I will stick with that plan!

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Beth

I just ate my new recipe of the week..... a turkey burger from Hungry Girl, and it was delicious!!!! A Really Big thumbs up! I wasn't so sure after making it last night, but it was really moist and delish! I will post it when I get home from work. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Beth

Beth: Glad you liked your recipe. I'll give it a try for the guys sometime. They love burgers!
It sounds like you had an amazing weekend. I love getting away with just hubby! Of course, your running scares me a little bit. Don't want you to hurt your back worse than it is, but I do have to agree with your reasoning. You need to know what you can do when making the surgery decision.

AFM: My taxes are done!!!!!! I hate doing them and always put them off until the last minute. I am 10 days early this year! :laughing:Now, I'm starting on my federal student aid forms. I'm sure I won't qualify for anything, but it's worth a shot.
I am an official college student. I enrolled this morning. I'm glad I did it as soon as they opened, because my chemistry class filled up in 30 minutes!

Hoping to get a run in today, but it's not looking good. At least I have zumba tonight!

I hope everyone's ready for tomorrow's clean eating. I went shopping this morning to prepare for it. Lots of fresh fruits & veggies and dairy. I am going to use prepackaged pasta, but do have brown rice and dried beans also.

Have a good day everyone!

Okay, so I committed to a title. Not so original, but hopefully everyon will know where to find us! I would love to keep this thread positive and encouraging! Hopefully, we can motivate everyone to achieve their weight loss goals!

My 2010 goals:
1. continue the workouts everyday!
2. complete at least 4 1/2 marathons
3. train and complete a full marathon
4. lose these last 10 pounds for good

What are your goals for 2010?

Beth
Your all goals are too good and all achievable.. So i believe you can easily chase these goals if you fully concentrate on these goals and work hard to achieve goals...

Tandy: Yes, have to say that getting on the TM was a bit scarey! I wasn't sure how it would work. I feel sore today....but not as bad as I thought. Congratulations on the enrollment! What an exciting time! and YEAH for the taxes being done! Always a huge relief to me. My dh actually was on the ball with getting to the tax guy this year! I alway worry....and we always get money back. Who files taxes ON tax day, that is getting a return? Only us stupid people!

Beth

We have had several trolls here recently.....report or not to report.....what do you all think????

Whatever you think about the trolls, Beth. It does seem odd? :confused3

Ran 3M this morning, and eating my planned meals. I'm not sure how to count this week -- I'll be down, but still above the last weigh in I reported...maybe I should confess to last week's weight and this week's, to make it easier for Tandy?

I'm in a training offsite all day tomorrow, so I will probably post before I go. Tried another great recipe from the WW Take 5 book last night, a french bread pizza with ricotta and tomatoes. Very yummy!

I only have a minute, so I will say:

Congrats on enrolling to our college student, Tandy!

Be careful, but I know why you ran! to Beth

Dennis got two jackets, a shirt and a hat (20% off coupon!) , so we're smiling Jackie!

Jeanne -- I don't know if we will be there in Jan. or not. I definitely plan on the Princess, so at this point it's not likely -- but I do keep talking about Chip 'N Dale, and now DH is saying if he did go he'd want to do the Full again, so I guess I would be doing the Half for the 15 yr. medal, which would also be cool...but I'm not getting too attached to that idea. Maybe if they do Chip 'N Dale again in 2013...

:wave2: to Cindy in the :umbrella:

Vicky -- Hope you are feeling more settled after the move, and finding awesome recipes you can share with us! ::yes::

And  to Debra -- any inside scoop on the new RunDisney event? I haven't been checking out the clues, but I gather they're not exactly enlightening...

Maria :upsidedow

So, I got another new recipe in from Hungry Girl: backyard bbq beef cups

12 oz extra lean ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
3/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 pkg Pillsbury crescent roll dough

Oven 375 degrees. Spray muffin tin with non stick spray

Cook ground beef and onion med/high heat until browned 8 to 10 min.

Stir in barbecue sauce and simmer 5 min

Roll dough out into 12 inch by 9 inch rectangle. Using knife, cut into 12 pieces. Place each square into a muffin tin and press into the bottom and up along the sides to form a little dough cup. Place beef mixture into dough cups. Bake in oven 12 to 15 min.

125 calories per cup, 4 g fat, 15 g carbs, 7 g protein. 3 points a piece.

**I reported troll # 1 and the moderators took care of it!

So, I think I am poster queen this week! I have been visiting alot this week! ((((I guess that's a good thing!)))))

Loss: 2 pounds (((totally happy about that, though I wish I was in the 170s))))

Fruits/Veggies: 1 pt
Water: 1 pt
exercise: 1 pt
temptation: 1 pt
weight loss: 1 pt
dairy: 1 pt
weekly challenge: 0 pt
new recipe: 1 pt

Point total: 8

Check in everyone!

Beth

Beth - Good for you for being the posting queen! It keeps you accountable. Great job this week!

Here are my results for the week, even though I "officially" dropped out two weeks ago...

Weight: 142 (last week was 144 :scared1:) so a 2lb loss, which is good, but still bad.

Water: 0 (which is hard to believe, given how much I drank, but I forgot to track Tue-Wed, so I can't be sure what happened those days!)
Fruits/Veggies: 0 (got them all Thu, Sat, Sun, Mon - missed Fri, don't know Tue-Wed)
Dairy: .5
Exercise: 1
Weekly challenge: 1
New recipe: 1
New food: 1
Temptation: 0
Weight loss: 1

Point total: 5.5

Had decided to take yesterday as a rest day. Left work with a migraine, went home and took a short nap, went to choir practice, then came home and did 45 minutes on the bike! Had to do something while watching the disaster of the NCAA final game.

Today IS a rest day. Am planning to donate blood after work, so any activity would be a bad idea, I think!

Have a great Tuesday!

Jackie

Good Morning Leanies.

Happy to report I'm at 144.2 which is down 1.6 lbs from last week!!

Pts for fruits/veggies, new recipe (Oriental Chicken - crockpot recipe=yummy!), new food (snap pea crisps = Yucky), dairy, and wt loss. so that equals 5. I can't believe I didn't hit the exercise quota this week, but I am tapering. I managed 1 or 2 days with all my water, so I am improving.

Have a great day everyone!!
Cindy

Congrats to everyone who has posted a loss for the week. Unfortunately, I am not among you. Put me down for a gain of 0.4 lb. (204.8). When I got up this morning and struggled to get my slippers on my feet, I knew it was not going to be good. I seem to be very swollen today and am not sure why.....no high sodium foods recently....or at least none that I am aware of.... I did spend all day and night yesterday sitting at a desk, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I only had 6 points this week. Missed the points for weight loss, new food, and got only half a point for water and dairy.
Don't mention taxes to me......no need to go into details, but I am battling my own demons this year......grrrrrrr.

Tandy: I have to try those new recipes. They sound like delicious!

Beth: glad you were able to get away for a bit.....you certainly deserve a break.

Jackie: can't remember.....are you signed up for Williamsburg?

That's it for now......it's going to be one crisis after the other today.

Happy weigh in day ladies! Happy to see so many posts. Mine is so so news. I have managed a loss of .4 pounds this week, which isn't what I had hoped for, but at least the scale didn't move up! I also managed 8 points, only missing the temptation point. I'm not sure what to make my temptation this week. Oh, and can I have one night off from clean eating for my bday tomorrow? Frank just hit me with "What do you mean there will be no bday cake?" I can't do cake for them and not me when it's MY birthday! I promise to do good with the food. :)

Jeanne: Sorry you didn't lose, but someone else needs to win once in awhile!;)

Cindy: Great job with your loss!!!! That water will come around. I don't drink anything else anymore, except my 2 cups of coffee. I think that's the only reason I manage it everyday.

Jackie: There is no dropping out! You can leave for a week or two, but we want you back and you did really good this week! Last week is just a distant memory!:rolleyes1 I avoided the game last night because I didn't care with the 2 teams that were left. VCU was my last hopeful (since they beat my Jayhawks).

Beth: You are just doing SOOOO great! Very impressive. And, I agree with Jackie. Posting keeps you accountable. :thumbsup2
I reported the trolls too. I just don't like that at all. If you want to join our group, fine, but don't try to sell us on something.

Maria: Yum. That pizza sounds so good. Yes, if you want your weigh loss to count this week, I'll need some details. But, if you just want to pm those numbers, that's fine. :) I don't think you can have too much Boston Marathon merchandise. It's such a big deal! :thumbsup2

AFM: I am heading out for a 6 miler here in a little while. I haven't had a decent length run in a week or 2, and am feeling like a slacker. My ankle is fine, so I have no more excuses. I have lots of errands to run, so I think I'll go to the trail. Nothing else to really report.

Have a great day ladies!

Never mind my cake problem. I just got a recipe for a clean eating coconut cake!!!!:cool1:

Jeanne: Sorry to hear the tax woes, never fun! And, the fluid retention thing is a beast! Nancy fights that one too! I am not self-aware enough to know if I have the issue myself....I am a day to day person, who really doesn't notice stuff! :lmao: Might have been a problem for me last week, b/c I had no weight loss for Tuesday, then down 1.4 by Thursday! Doesn't make any sense, and I quit trying!

Tandy: Let us know how that cake comes out! Sounds delish! Good luck with your LR.

Jackie: Good job!!!

Cindy: Wow! You saw a great scale day! Great job!

Nice to see most of us had a movement with the scale, and don't worry Jeanne....you'll see it next week!

Beth
