Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Hi Leansters!

We had a wonderful Christmas. I haven't gotten my Christmas present yet, though. But I am packing for it!!!! :rotfl:

I will see the doctor on the fourth about my tests and my foot. It is doing better. You will probably see me wearing my Birkenstocks in the parks alot. They make it feel better.

Vicky - Good job on the miles and the weghts. I really like those elastics. I am pretty sure I won't be tearing any more rotator cuffs with it! Never, never do that.

Jackie - I really enjoy cooking. This year we had ham and unexpected guests! The guy next door is single and his buddy was in from Oklahoma and they got snowed in, like us. So, we invited them over for Christmas dinner. Good thing I had lots!

Maria - You are too fast for me! I Dream of a 12 mm pace! At least you tried to get that workout in!

Corrina - 12 miles on a TM! You are the queen! :worship: I am thinking of trying those walking videos. They are supposed to help you feel like you are on a walk instead of just the TM!

Beth - Why can't we remember how good running/walking feels BEFORE we spend our time dreading doing it?? I hope the Wii is a big hit.

Manda - Stay out of the yucky air. Maybe we should both try the videos that allow you to feel like you are walking/running through Hawaii for the TM! :thumbsup2

Rubato - Tasty treats are for treating ourselves! :woohoo:

AFM - no weight gain over Christmas. No weight loss, either. Although I found some cool journals available on Amazon! The one I started with (because I got it first) is the dietminder! I don't do well with tracking on the computer because I don't seem to get everything logged in, but this has place for anything you want to log; exercise, food, counts, water, graphs you design yourself, etc. Preety coool. The other one has you color in bubbles to show what you accomplish. It's called the "Not your usual Food Diary". It looks really fun. I am looking forward to try that one. I am thinking it might be really good as maintenance journal too!

See y'all soon! Love, Connie

Maria - 80 degrees on a treadmill sounds like the very definition of "unbearable" to me. I can run in heat outside, but on the treadmill, conditions have to be more tolerable than that. It's so bad, but my TM is right next to a window and so I will actually open the window during workouts in the winter sometimes. :rolleyes1

Connie - that journal looks wonderful! I do track online, but am very aware of the drawbacks. I love that I can input things on my phone when I'm away from home, but I always think just writing things down is sometimes simpler. That's why I use a regular little calendar in my purse instead of a PDA/Blackberry or whatever.

Are you talking about like the Walk Away the Pounds DVD's or something that makes it feel like you're someplace scenic?

Vicky - I hear ya with the mind and eyes wandering thing. It's tough on the TM! I was just talking about this weekend - I usually end up zoning out, imagining past or future races, etc. But if you have a hard time zoning out, it makes it really hard to be on the TM without some distraction.

I ran 3 miles on the TM this morning. It's so quick compared with the long runs. It cracks me up when I start longing for the really BAD hills I run during warmer weather! Can you say "cabin fever???"

I am taking the kids to the eye doctor today. My older son says he's having a hard time reading the clock in his classroom. But he also says he hopes he doesn't have to have glasses. It will be what it will be.

Corrina! Hey!

The videos I was talking about is a person's eyeview of a walk or hike. It is supposed to help you feel like you aren't stuck on a TM. I don't think there is any instruction, just a peaceful view. They have them on www.collagevideos.com. They include Hawaii, The Swiss Alps and someplace else that I can't remember right now.

Good morning! I guess I didn't post yesterday.....:confused3 Don't really know why.

Vicky: Great mileage for the month!:thumbsup2 I am closing in on 1800 miles for the year! I have 6 miles to go for today and tomorrow to hit it!

Maria: 80 degress? Wow, just wow.....do they really need it that hot? I would have to ask to lower that just for the heating bill! Is that how hot their home is???? I think I would have tanked on my run too!

Connie: I love to cook too! But, Christmas day is way to hectic for me...we end up to appetizers or something. Actually I made a taco/meat dip in the crock pot that was a big success! The kids loved it, so I made it the next day for my in-law get together. It was a hit there too!

AFM: I am very happy to see the end of the holidays! I haven't stepped on the scale, but I am sure it's not good. I hate when I do this! Now I will spend the next couple of months taking off the same weight again! UGH!

I am getting my workouts in, but I am not feeling good right now. I guess it might be a slight cold, but I have chest congestion with generalized weakness. I didn't get up and run this morning.....felt like crap, so I slept in. I will have to run tonight! What a drag!

On a brighter note, I have straightened out the eating this week, so I don't have to be a new year resolution person!

Beth

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to post and say hello. I haven't had time to read all the posts yet. I thought things would slow down a bit after Christmas, but not yet. I've been having stomach pains for the last week. The only time they feel better is when I am eating and for about 2 minutes afterwards. Did not make for a very Lean Christmas. I've tried Maalox and Zantac and that hasn't helped. I have a doctor's appt this afternoon, so we'll see what she says.

Have a great day everyone. I'll try to catch up soon.
Cindy

Just a bump to say "Happy New Year". Hope you are all having a nice time! I am spending the weekend in Washington D.C. I did get 6.0 miles in today. It may be the beginning of a new streak!

Beth

Happy New Year!

I managed 5M Wednesday and Thursday, and rested today. I'll be doing 10 tomorrow, and then we are theoretically heading to L.L. Bean in Maine, but I think the snow may make us change our minds. I have been purging drawers and shelves, throwing away things that are marginal and things that are too big, even just a little too big. I want to have no choice but to get smaller. I lost 20 lbs in 2009, and it's going to be 30 in 2010!

My goals:

1. Lose 30 lbs.
2. Six weekly workouts -- running, wii, yoga, incline walking and exercise bike to total 1.5 hrs. per day. (I'm going to have to work up to this one, and I don't mean everything in the same day!)
3. Eat WW pts., log food and exercise.
4. Do 2 5K races, and train for WDW 2011 Half.
5. Read my Daily Devotional Bible. (I know that's not an exercise, but I do think it helps me focus on bettering myself).

My goals start January 17th. I know that sounds a little odd, but there's no way I can seriously focus on getting them started in WDW and at Universal, so I'm waiting until I get back to get moving.

For those of you that don't know, my dh has promised me a trip to Atlantis when I lose 50 lbs, so losing 30 lbs has it's own reward! I am determined to be planning that trip this time next year!

Hey Leaners...

Just started back with watching my eating on December 31st!! I have maintained pretty well between Thanksgiving and now. I am ready to get back at it. January will be tough because of being at WDW for 6 days and then I have another Half Marathon at the end of January. I wil try my best.
Sundays are my "weigh" days so I will check and see where I am at. Got back out my WW stuff and my journal and have it waiting to go on Sunday!

Ok, so it's the new year and will be a new me!

Happy New Year Leaners!

So far, so good in 2010. Have kept the eating under control for the 2 days so far, and did an 8 mile run this morning as my last LR before Goofy. The trick is going to be the next 7 days - trying to balance getting enough fuel to get me through 39.3 miles while not overdoing it, and NOT eating too many Mickey bars and Dole Whips!

Was talking to my Galloway director this morning while running and bounced my race goals off him. He thinks my 2:30 half is definitely doable. The 5:30 full at Disney, maybe not so much. He did tell me that for the group I'm running with, I should be capable of a 5:01 full. That blew my mind and has had me struggling all day with what I should do next Sunday. He does think it will be too warm for the PR I want, so it looks like I may have to do a second full in 2010 to meet my goals. Ugh!

Maria - Love your goals! You covered all the bases.

Cindy - Curious to hear what the doctor said. Hope you're feeling better now!

Tracy - Good start to the year. We'll have to keep each other in line next week!

Watching the Liberty Bowl right now with DD. Tie game. Must go!

Jackie

I posted over the weekend, but the post went **poof** for some reason? WTH? I know it was there.....I saw it! I am not sure what it said at this point, since it was a couple of days ago.....:confused3

I know everyone is gearing up for WDW.....I hope you all have a good time! Race hard (if that is your goal), but I hope everyone has a good time!

I am off today, since I am covering for Nancy the end of the week. It is really cold out, so I won't be running outside!

Beth

Good morning, Leanies!

I have really been challenged by rest/taper madness this last week. :upsidedow I don't know if I was stir crazy, had taper madness or depressed! But things weren't the best they could be. And I have misplaced everything I haven't packed! I even found Packeages of hot chocolate in the fish food drawer. I could be wrong, but I don't think they will like it! :fish: I guess it's a good thing I am leaving out tomorrow night or very early Wednesday morning!

I have managed to both gain and lose 3 lbs this week which of course, means absolutely nothing! :rotfl: (sigh) such is life.:yo-yo:

Good Afternoon, Lean Ladies!

I did my 10M in 120 minutes Saturday, so was very pleased. The weather said no trip to Maine, so we went to the Museum of Science. We had a nice time, and plan to go back later this month to see the Harry Potter travelling exhibit.

I did my incline walking yesterday, and need to do 4M today after work.

Connie -- It is a crazy time with weight, taper, and New Year expectations. Just take it easy, and get ready to go! :cool1:

Beth -- You will be missed at the race! I know you will hold down the fort for us here, and when we get back we'll be ready to get going on the Lean front. :goodvibes

Jackie -- You speedy thing, you! ;) I think you are going to do very well, how could you not with the Leanies behind you?! ;)

Tracy -- I think you are really going to enjoy the Pop Meet more this year, since you won't be handing out nametags. Thank you so much for making them, they really make a huge difference! :flower3:

Cindy -- I really hope you are feeling better! Stomach pains are so uncomfortable...:grouphug:

 to Corinna, Manda, Rubato, Wendy, Julie, Debra, Vicky, Jeanne

I'm also trying to decide what to do to ramp up again after the Half. I'm thinking I'll do 3M 14th, 4M the 15th, and 5 the 16th, and then back to my normal schedule, with 6M for my long runs on Sat., until I figure out when my next race will be. My 5-day break coincides with our vacation, so I won't plan to run again until I'm at home. Does this make any sense? I followed a published plan last year, but it took weeks before I was back to normal, and that didn't feel right, either.

I'm sure you guys will be talking me down over the next few days...let's stay strong!

Maria :upsidedow

Hey, everyone! I'm just popping in to let you know that I'm alive and, if not prepared for the Goofy, then prepared to get out of Dodge for while and give it a shot. I haven't really run much for two weeks--LTO--so who knows what will happen.

No time to respond individually to folks, as I head out for Disney tomorrow and have yet to pack. I hope to post a couple of times while in Orlando, but DOOD seems opposed to paying WDW resort fees to use their internet. I says, what's another $10/day? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Anyway, I just wanted to check in and see how people are doing. I'm so glad to see so many of us are ready to commit to ourselves in 2010! I'm gonna to miss Beth  and everyone else who won't be in the World this weekend--so think we need to plan a regional race in 2010 to meet up. Meanwhile, keep the home fires burning for us.

Hello mean-leaners,

So sorry I haven't posted much recently. First, I was so busy with the holidays and then I encountered a speedbump with my healing. Not to go into graphic details, something went wrong and I have been more than a little depressed about the whole thing. Once I am fully healed, we will assess the situation and decide if something else needs to be done. I had been so looking forward to this WDW trip, but there's a little black cloud over it right now. As of right now, I plan to do the 5K with Nancy, who assures me we can take our time. I also think I can still do the water stop as long as I don't lift anything heavy. Quite frankly, I need something to take my mind off of my little pity party. I can't wait to see those of you that will be there.....I'm needing a big (but soft) hug these days.

Safe travels to all of you....hope to see you soon.

Good evening Leanies,

We are hitting the road in just 6 hours. We will be heading out the door at 2 am! :scared1: I am trying to think of it as training for this weekend!

I got the doctor's result. For now, let's just say I have a low metabolism!

See y'all in the World!

Yeeeeeeeeeehaw! :woohoo:

Why Hello, my Lean Friends!

After yesterday's bust of a workout (1.5M instead of 4 -- my dad's idea of turning off the heat was turning it down to 68 :rolleyes1), today I actually did my 3. DH opened a window, which helped greatly.

We are getting through the holiday goodies and down to the healthy snacks, which is also helping. I'm eating Jello mousse as I type.

I revised my clothing plan for this weekend. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods a little while ago and picked up compression pants, an earband, hand warmers, feet warmers, and a mega warmer -- not sure where that goes? :confused3 My plan is the compression pants with shorts over them, a tech shirt with my WISH shirt over it, ear band, and possibly -- WISH visor, windbreaker, rain poncho -- I also have throw away gloves and hat, as well as a fleece jacket. I think I'll pick up those throwaway pants at the Expo. Does this sound sufficient? I've never run in cold or rain, so I guess I'm packing to be over-prepared.

Is there a place WISH folks are meeting for the 5K? I am planning to go and cheer my SIL and BIL, and I would love to find Jeanne and Nancy!

Connie -- Safe travels and I will see you there! :thumbsup2

Jeanne -- I'll be looking for you and Nancy! I am so sorry you are having medical difficulties  I think a nice big dose of Nancy will help! :goodvibes

Debra -- I have a big :grouphug: for you at the Pop Meet! I haven't packed yet, either, and we leave Thursday. I have never been this ill-prepared for a trip!

Sending giant Howdies to everyone else, I have to get moving, so no more posts until tomorrow!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria: compared to the other races, I don't think the 5K is all that big. John and I will be in WISH green as will a whole bunch of other people. I don't know of a specific meeting place, but I'm sure we'll be able to find one another.

Jeanne: I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time with the healing. Sending you many PD's! :wizard::wizard: I hope things get better, and Nancy will help that along!!!! ((((Don't go partying to much!))))

Maria: I always feel that over-packing and being prepared beats not having something you need! I think your packing sounds spot on!

Debra: I am glad you stopped by before you left! Yes, I will miss seeing you all, but someone has to hang around and keep the home fires burning! Have a blast! I know you will!

AFM: Okay, so the holiday's caught me unawares! ((((Yeah, like that is what it was!))) So, I now have 13 pounds to get off. Man, I hate that! I stepped on the scale today......it wasn't good. Oh well, live and learn (((((the same lesson, over and over and over......you get the drift!)))))) No matter how many times I do this, I can't ever stop it in it's tracks!

I back on plan......the detour lasted way to long. I am now doing the training plan for a PR 1/2 marathon from women's running magazine. I thought I would do that for the National 1/2 marathon, mixing it with the marathon training plan starting mid-Feb. Gives me a idea of where I am at!

Beth

:wave2:Hi All.

It feels like I have been gone for a long time. Gone from here and gone from any kind of fitness goals. I decided to join BL this time around. Hopefully that will help me out a little. It is a bit more accountability than I have had. I was looking over my weight history yesterday. I have pretty much stayed level since I joined WISH, which is good in a way, since I had gained 20 pounds in the 9 months prior to that, but it is time to lose those 20, and the 20 that came before them (and the 20 that came before that:rolleyes1).

I am slower than most at committing to new years goals. I always wait until after my birthday (which was yesterday - I am officially 30 nowparty:) So today I will be braving the resolution crowds at the gym. My DH and I got some new cook books for Christmas, and hopefully there will be more home cooking and less fast food in our future.

Good luck to everyone headed to DW this weekend. I was surprised to hear how cold it is out there! Maybe I will rethink my plans of doing the half in 2011.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post while I had the chance. I still haven't caught up on reading. My news is that my stomach is still an issue. The Dr. prescribed Prilosec and I took that for a few days which seemed to help. Then I got so incredibly nauseous that I stopped taking it and wasn't able to eat for 2 days. Next my stomach began to hurt again, so I am now on 2 different meds. I haven't run in 1 1/2 weeks and my stomach is still fussy. I'll still attempt to run Goofy, but I'll be taking a lot of walk breaks. I'm most bummed about all those fabulous dinner reservations we have and not being able to enjoy it fully. We leave Friday morning.

Hope everyone is well. I look forward to seeing a lot of you soon.
Cindy
