Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Maria: Aren't you sweet!:lovestruc It's so nice of you to say such nice things......I am glad to be an 'inspiration' to someone! But, I have to say that YOU are the inspiration here. You have done such a fantastic job......and I am glad you got to wear a new outfit for Easter! Show off that hard work! :cool1:

I hope that the 'sickness' is banished for good! I hate to be sick. I am glad to say that after that horrendous cold several months ago, I have been pretty healthy. I have to step back sometimes to appreciate that!

Tandy: Happy Birthday!!! I think I am so much fitter in my forties! My thirties was when I had my kids, and spent the whole 10 year time period fat, and unhappy. Never want my 30's back! You will join the rest of us, here in our 40's!

AFM: So, my legs are really tired today. Doing 3 measily miles at 10:00 min miles took it out of me! So, I took a rest day!

I had a chiropractor appointment today (my first one!) because my neck has been bothering me alot. I have had bad headaches and I think it's because my neck is out of wack! So, I have only good things to say after electric stim, heat, and an adjustment! My neck feel so much better! Between that and the massage last week, I should be good!

Beth

Just a quick pop in to say hi. Easter weekend was so busy.

Hope everyone is doing great!!!!!!!

Just a quick post to wish Tandy and Debra a Happy Birthday.

I'm here, running is going OK. Eating is not. My stomach was awful last week, another trip to the doctor and still no idea what's going on. I'm in the midst of a huge pity party myself - money, DH, kids, work, etc.

Thanks Beth for the pep talk last week, I really did appreciate it. You are a very wise woman.

Hello to everyone, I'll try to get on later to post more.

Cindy

Good morning folks! It's Tuesday! I love Tuesday.....it's so much better than Monday!

Cindy: :wizard::wizard: I am sending you lots of PD.....I am sorry your stomach is still bothering you. How frustrating...... I am so impressed with how you still continue to train, even when you don't feel well. I am hoping for the best for you and Boston......maybe your stomach will cooperate with the situation, and let up a little! :thumbsup2

Maria: How did your morning workout go? Are you feeling better yet??? :confused3 I am sending you some PD too! :wizard:

Kim: I am glad you could stop by, since you seem 'out of control' busy these days! How did dress shopping go?

Okay, who's up for another Biggest Loser Competition? If anyone is interested let me know. I would like to get some of this weight off!

AFM: I did get up today (late) and did some 'speedier' miles this morning. I ran 3 at 10:00 min miles. I will be running more later too!

I am trying hard to get the eating under control. The scale hasn't cooperated with efforts yet, but I did go a little wild over the weekend! Paybacks, you know.....so yesterday I started buckling down and eating better. I would like to drop some weight before my next 1/2 the end of the month.

Check in today folks!

Beth

Morning lean ladies!

Cindy - Sorry to hear the stomach problems are continuing :( I can only imagine how frustrating that must be for you. I wonder if there's something in the water. I always blame the water when I can't think of anything else :) I can't believe Boston is almost here! Do you know if they have runner tracking?

Beth - WTG on the speedy 3 miler! How many miles do you have planned for the rest of the day? I would definitely be up for another BL challenge. Anything extra I can get rid of would be great!

Maria - Mmm... love buscuits!! There aren't many places that make a good buscuit in Canada. I *suppose* that's a blessing in disguise ;) WTG on the 6 miler!

Debra - Happy birthday!! What are your birthday plans?

Jackie - We do the trash talking even when the boss is around! Hahaha!! I've got to get moving my my spring cleaning too. I'm going to take a page out of Tandy's book and reorganize my closet. At least that way, I'll be able to see what I have and what I still need.

AFM - Got in my training session yesterday - deadlifting (135 lbs) and lots of metabolic exercises like lunges with weights, burpees, and my favourite - the Spiderman crawl. My PT was telling me about one of his clients who's able to do 5 sets of of the Spiderman crawl (once to the end of the gym and then back = 1 set). I think I nearly fainted. I also think I might go in for a fitness assessment. For some reason, I've never had one done. You get your body fat measured and fitness levels measured. Not much planned for tonight - will try to get a walk in and then probably Lost.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Beth - I'm up for a little competition, if you think you have the time and energy to coordinate. I discovered this group last year in the middle of the competition, so I didn't get to play! I have 32 days until my next half, but I don't know if weight loss will make a difference or not.

Cindy - We're keeping our fingers crossed that things get better SOON!

Vicky - Funny that you would mention the fitness assessment. DD is having one done this morning as part of her jogging class! She just texted me with her body fat percentage. Oh, to be 19 again.

My brownie-baking coworker brought them in again yesterday. I only ate ONE! And it didn't even taste that good. It was WAY too sweet. I take that to be a sign that I'm weaning myself off, slowly but surely. I haven't done any exercise since Saturday's run, other than scream at the TV during the basketball game last night, but I'm pretty sure my elevated heart rate burned a few calories.

I have NO time goal for next month's half. There are 35,000 people, and we're in one of the last corrals. DD thinks she can do it faster than any of my times, but she only made it 3.5 miles on Saturday before her ankle started hurting and she had to really slow down. I think this race may be a leisurely stroll through Indianapolis instead of a PR-setting one, but the experience of all three of us doing a race together should be a lifetime memory.

Hello mean-leaners!

I know it's been awhile (I just read about 2 weeks worth of posts!) but I can't begin to tell you how totally busy I am right now. I am at the point now where it's getting down to the nitty gritty for my daughter's wedding and we are just starting to go full speed with plans for my son's. Thank goodness I have alot less to do for that one. It's also tax crunch time and, of course, the child who has the most complicated return to file still hasn't given me all of his info.

Thank-you all for your congratulations.....I am happy to report that I am still in One-derland! (I think so anyway..... ) I just got back from Greek Easter which is a true eating orgy and gave myself a one day reprieve from getting on my Wii scale. Well, I turned it on this morning and all of a sudden my TV just blew out. So I don't know for sure if i'm still in Onderland but my ancient bathroom scale seems to think I am. I actually got kicked out just a little about 2 weeks ago but made it back in quickly. I am now starting to work on my second 10-lb. loss so Beth's challenge could not have come at a better time. COUNT ME IN! I miss not having a specific event to train for, but have still been pretty good about working out. I can now run up to 2.5 miles without stopping which means I may be surprising a few family members at the Wine and Dine relay, my only event this year.

I don't have the time to comment on everyone's post, but did want to offer my condolences to Jackie on the loss of Bill's job. So sorry to hear that and I hope something better comes along real quickly. If you want to get together over a latte (or beer!) and chat, you know where to find me.

And.......HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEBRA!

Hi ladies. Thanks for the birthday wishes. It's been great so far. I got 2 walks in today. A 3 miler with my friends. Then, I took the dog out for another 4 in the beautiful weather. Saw 3 snakes on the path though! :eek:I'm supposed to lift later, but who knows. I've got to figure out where my hubby and son get to take me for dinner, but I'm not sure yet.

Jeanne: Glad to hear the first wedding is almost here. You sound super busy. Are there anymore children after the son? Is this it for you for wedding planning? :laughing:Congrats on still being in onederland! (even if it is unofficial)

Beth: I think the 40s will definitely be better than the 30s too. I had my son at the end of being 29, so had the whole baby toddler thing. I've been skinny and heavy 3 or 4 times in my 30s. But, I never ran a half marathon in my 30s, so if I get through Saturday, I'm already a step ahead. I'm now in good company!
Is your neck still feeling good?

Jackie: I am so upset that I missed the game last night! Congrats on the win anyway! It must have been good. Thanks for the info on the pre race eating. I didn't realize it takes so long for food to digest. I guess I'll focus more on breakfast and lunch on Friday instead of dinner.
I'm glad the brownie didn't taste good. That is a good sign!
I can't imagine racing with 35,000 people. Yikes! I think there were 1500 last year, in the event I'm running Saturday. I hope that holds true for this year as well.

Vicky: Is the ankle feeling any better? I hope laying off for awhile will get it where it needs to be. :) Man, you are a dynamo in the gym! I haven't done anything like that for so long. Actually, I haven't stepped into a gym in 4 years, I just use my bowflex at home.
Yes, I've been using sports beans on my long runs to make sure my stomach can handle them. There a GU station at mile 7, but since I've never tried the stuff, I'm not going to start in the race. Thanks for the nutrition info. I'm getting ready to go to the store to get what I need for the day before and morning of, so just wanted advice! :thumbsup2

Cindy: I'm SO sorry to hear that you're not feeling any better! I wish someone could do something for you.:grouphug:

Maria: Did you get a run in today? Funny about that "recovery" from Easter. Why do we eat so much?:laughing:I'm glad to hear you went with the skirt, blouse combo. Absolutely, save the dress for a time when you can really WOW them by fitting in it properly. My mom turned "39" for the last time in Feb. I told her she had to be at least as old as me!:rotfl2:

Debra: It looks like we share a birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :cheer2:

AFM: I would like to join the Biggest Loser club, but don't know how it works. I've lost 4.5, so need to lose another 4.5.
I got some bad news today when I looked at the map for my Saturday race. Mile 1-7 look okay, but from mile 7 on, it's mostly uphill! Why would they do that to us?:eek:Oh well, it'll be more challenging, right?

Tandy

Tandy: The BL challenge is informal here, and I am the host. I usually keep track of totals with weight and keep things updated weekly. If you want to post starting weight, and then weekly weight loss, I will post them in one post.

We also usually do a point recognition. Here's the breakdown.....you keep totals week to week.

1. 1 point for 68 oz. of water daily (or equivilent).
2. 1 point for 25 grams of fiber daily.
3. 1 point for 15 minutes of exercise (may get 2 points daily for 30 min).
4. 1 point for 5 servings of fruits/veggies daily.
5. 1 point for 2 servings of milk/dairy daily.

** I usually do a 'floater' point weekly with an exercise challenge to be done daily for that week.

That gives you a potential of 7 points that you can earn daily. I call them the 5 Healthy Habits. You have to add up your points daily/weekly and then let me know what your weight loss and points are for the week. The end of each week, we have a 'winnner' for weight loss and a 'winner' for most points for the week. Jeanne was our overall winner last time for both points and weight loss.

This is a great motivator to get off some of the weight that has been 'weighing' us down!

Beth

Beth: When do we start? What are the beginning and ending days of the week? I think there was some confusion over that last time.

Oh and just for the record, I think I was merely the winner for points last year (only because yours -which were greater - were unofficial); I am quite certain someone else won for biggest weight loss...(Corinna maybe?)

Sorry Tandy.......didn't realize there was another birthday to celebrate :rolleyes1

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TANDY!

Geez, maybe you are right, though I don't think Corrina participated, did she? I thought she popped in after we started....though I could be wrong.

I know Debra did pretty well, as did Maria and Vicky.

The point thing was easier for me, because I had been doing those things longer. I won't like having to check on myself and journal again..... I am bad at that! They should be easier for you now too!!! ;)

When do you want to start? I am willing to start anytime.....is it better to start before the weekend/ or after?

Beth

First up:

Jackie: I'm so, so sorry to hear about the news with DH's job. I know you two have been going through a series of cutbacks with your job, and added expenses with DD & college. And now this. You deserve all the pity parties I can throw! And here's an up-to-date I love you! I'm so glad you're focusing on things like the 5K, which are good for you physically and mentally. And I also believe you're spot on, that Indy is a good race for the memories.

Maria: I, too, like the evil hobbit. Because he's evil. I hope you didn't think I don't think of grant writing as a professional form of writing, based on what I said. I do, I do! I was just silly enough to chase the $ signs and enter into a too-loose agreement.

Congratulations on doing you 6 miles despite being sick! I so admire you. I hope, I hope, I hope you're feeling better today. Good call on the blouse & skirt!

Beth: Yay for your 14 miles AND a Sox game! :woohoo: Can you believe the Pirates won their opener. I lost 5 bucks. I hope your family appreciates all that you do for them, and that you're having a great week. It sounds like the chiro really does wonders!

I'm up for a BL competition. This weekend, between the holiday and the non-birthday birthday noshing did me in. Put me down for 5 pounds!. No preference for when we start, except after today. ;)

Tandy: Happy, happy birthday! Say hello to fabulous 40!! It sounds like you're in good shape for the race. The less said about the uphill after 7 miles part of the course, though, the better! :scared1:

Really, I don't dwell too much on what I eat the night before; I'm a vegetarian & often end up eating where DOOD wants. He prefers burgers & chicken. I go with pasta and sometimes just a salad with bread! :scared1: Although what Jackie says about lunch makes perfect sense. So I do try to make sure I eat plenty of protein the few days before the race, and pretty much eat what Vicky does the morning of.

Vicky: How does the ART session feel now? How long does the "unpleasantness" last. Hopefully not long, but I'm curious. And goodness. What is an inversion sprain? It sounds serious, but your post suggests otherwise. I'll probably just google it, but what's your take? Is this a chronic thing? Maybe the 5 sets of Spiderman could be your non-running goal, while you take a break for the ankle. Would that make the condition worse?

Kim: Hi! Easter does get ever so much busier than I expect. You too, huh?

Cindy: I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing stomach problems. Yes, you (and me) need to listen to Beth. We're entitled to take care of ourselves and embrace the wonderful women we all are! I think of how strong you are, and how and positive you are to all of us, and hope you see all the good things in yourself.

Jeanne: WTG with keeping everything together despite being in party-planning (wedding) mode in addition to everything else! You rock, woman!

As for me: Yep, it's birthday today. So far, what have I done? Nothing, just work. Not sure when we're celebrating, although there are presents on a chair for me. DOOD's over-committed at work (wonder where I learned it from) and I don't even know his hours anymore.

On the other hand, that leaves me with plenty of me time today. I'm thinking about going out to a movie & getting take-out. So, yeah, no BL challenge till tomorrow. :lmao:

Wow, I spend all day working (being virtuous and staying off the DIS) and you guys are not only posting left and right, you start a new BL! :rotfl2: I always miss all the good stuff!

Without further ado, Happy Birthday, Debra and Tandy!

Count me in for the BL, and I selfishly suggest we start after the weekend (as I'm still recovering from Easter ;) ), but whenever you guys want is fine with me! How long are we going for? My goal is tied to the length of the challenge!

Tandy -- Sadly my workout did not happen this morning, although I did do yoga. My throat is not so sore, but I still seem to be feeling the final effects of the cold. I have high hopes for tomorrow AM, though. :thumbsup2

Jeanne -- You are moving at warp speed towards those weddings! And I am sure you are still in Onderland, it's your new home!

Jackie -- Good job sticking to one brownie! I think it is so awesome you are doing a race with your dh and dd! That is definitely a family memory maker! :yay:

Vicky -- Are you squealing like I am for the Desmond episode? I cannot wait! :woohoo:

Beth -- Just when I'm sort of giving up on my next milestone, you pop a BL Challenge -- :thanks: I totally need it! I definitely need to focus again, so fantastic timing!

Cindy -- I am so sorry about your stomach, it really seems like you should have some answers and solutions. I have to believe relief is coming...hang in there!

Debra -- Go to the movies, and have a great time! popcorn::

Maria :upsidedow

Biggest Loser Challenge 2010

Okay, ladies, we will start our Biggest Loser Challenge on Friday! I figured it will be better to 'get it over with' Friday and the weekend doesn't have to be so stressful. Monday weighs in can be pretty tough.....just ask my scale!

See the previous post above for the point challenge for each week.

If you want to post your weight, you may. If you want to 'keep the secret' send me a PM and I won't post your weight. Keep in mind, accountability says alot when you 'fess up! :lmao: Send me the information Friday.

Weigh in's will be Friday (as initial weigh in) and we will then commence the six week challenge. Friday 4/9 and will run through 5/21 (last weigh in). You can post your weight loss and points for the week on this thread and I will compile the info in one post.

The first exercise challenge will be 20 sit-ups a day. You will earn an extra point for every day you complete the exercise challenge.

The gaunlant has been thrown. Who is up for the challenge????:confused3

Beth

The gaunlant has been thrown. Who is up for the challenge????:confused3

Me, me! Put me down for a 5 pound goal. I'll weigh in Friday morning and post my weight. No problem being accountable to you guys! I've already warned the brownie-baker (her name is also Beth, btw) that they are NOT welcome for the next few weeks. She's tackling a 20 pound goal herself, so I may invite her to unofficially join us on the side.

Tandy - I've been meaning all day to do this... :bday: :bday: :bday: Welcome to the 40's! And yes, the Indy Mini-Marathon is the largest half marathon in the country. I'm a little intimidated by the thought myself. :scared1: I've been talking to another WISHer who will probably be starting in the same corral - she said it took her 45 minutes last year to cross the start line!

Debra - Thanks for the pity party. Is there beer? If so, we need to finish it before Friday's weigh-in! :lmao: Seriously, it does help to know I can come here and have friends to talk to and try to keep my sanity.

Going to bed now - have lots of sleep to catch up on from the game last night. And tomorrow night's sports massage is at 7:45, so it will be a later night than usual then too. When is a girl supposed to run?

Jackie

I'm definatley in!!!!!

6 weeks eh? I am aiming for 10 pounds. I will also post my weight, it is what it is..

I ordered P90X yesterday should have it by Friday, can't wait to get it started.

Beth: I am in for the challenge. I really don't want to get on the scale right now, but I have to sooner or later. 6 lbs will be my goal.

I hope to be back later to catch up on posts.
